    Older video but I just picked up basically this guitar used last week - mine has an off white/parchment pickguard instead of pearloid - and I love it. I'm a Firebird pickup guy but these p90s are growing on me, and the Mastery is butter. There is no hype with Novo guitars, they are every bit as good as everyone says they are.

    Hey Daniel -- I just ordered a Serus J with Fralin P90s......wondering if you still feel the P90 hum is "nothing you can't manage?" If you could do it again, would you get the hum canceling version, or are the standard Fralins with the hum worth it for the tone you get?

    • @DanMmusic
      @DanMmusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Congratulations on the order! The hum is certainly manageable, but is present. I'm riding my volume knob a lot, and a lot of the time if I'm using something like my quad cortex, I'll have a noise gate. But its not something that would ever stop me from taking the guitar to a pop gig or something. I had the noiseless hum bucker sized p90s in my Gibson ES339, and I wasn't a big fan. They seemed anemic, but that could have been the guitar as well.

    • @adambluming8569
      @adambluming8569 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DanMmusic ok. So stay with the fralins, even without using a noise gate. That’s what I’m hearing.

    • @DanMmusic
      @DanMmusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The setup was surprisingly perfect out of shipping. Still held up a few months later. I just had it set up for 11s and it feels good, may go back to 10s though. Still like the shape of the neck though!

    I'd be curious to know. What exactly IS the "secret sauce" that makes these so good? They are such unassuming looking guitars. At first glance, I never would have thought these guitars were anything special at all.

    • @reverb508
      @reverb508 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think it’s just a combination of lightweight, tempered wood, top notch components, and great build quality/ quality control. The folks at Novo don’t cut any corners and it shows in their instruments.

    • @DanMmusic
      @DanMmusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely agree with @reverb508 , tempered wood and ultra-lightweight guitars makes one of the most resonant guitars I've ever played. Its basically a custom shop guitar as well, everything looks so unique and yet familiar. I'm really enjoying the Novo Show Podcast if you want to hear what the actual Novo guys have to say about the "secret sauce"

    • @reverb508
      @reverb508 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DanMmusic How does the medium C neck feel? I’m contemplating ordering a Select Serus J, but slim necks give me hand cramps. I might just order a custom with the chunky C.

    • @DanMmusic
      @DanMmusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@reverb508 Its a bit thinner than what I'd expect from a vintage-esque style guitar. But its still very comfortable. I also like the thicker necks, and the Novo is the thinnest neck I own. If you don't care about the timing as much I'd order a custom

    • @DanMmusic
      @DanMmusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its definitely there... lol. I know they offer some noiseless P-90s if you want to make the swap. The hum isn't anything I can't manage though.

    If you get binding you lose the magic of the rolled fingerboard edges. Not worth it imo.

      That's a very good point. Never thought of that, although I think you CAN roll a bound fingerboard. Not sure of the method
