Great vid, very informative. My only small suggestion is to turn the music volume way down or eliminate it. The actor and narrator voices add sufficient drama. Thank you so much making this available to us!
John Ruskin a man of vision. I used to play in a park named after him. In Camberwell. I only knew of his connection with the pre Raphaelites brother hood and the working mans institute. Thank you for this very informative video.
This is the only documentary about Ruskin that speaks about his positive and beneficial work. Whilst, clearly, not an ideal husband he was a very hard-working philanthropist and a lover of beauty
Safron-sugar, strictly speaking Ruskin was never a husband! He should never have married, and I suspect that a marriage to Rose La Touche would not have worked well, eather - especially since Rose La Touche wasn't mentally stable, and Ruskin was most likely asexual. But all this should not overshadow Ruskin's many achievements! Unfortunately it was his fate never to experience a fulfilling relationship with a woman.
The best part of this video is the music. Without this wonderful accompaniment the video would be nothing, Indeed the genuis of your video offering happily resides in your skillful selection of music to woo the images along.
The swastika symbol is more than 3,000 years old. The symbols are found in many other cultures, such as Chinese, Japanese, Indian and in southern European. Throughout its history the swastika represented life, sun, power, strength and good luck. During World War I, it was found on shoulder patches of members of the American 45th Division and the Finnish air force. Only after the Nazi period did its connotation change. Thanks for your interest Barry (Producer)
Barry Ainsworth, thank you for this video. However, please consider removing the dominating music. It is so against the nature of John Ruskin - makes listening and education painful
Me gustaria ver un documental de JOHN RUSKIN QUE CONTENGA SU INFANCIA, SU MATRIMONIO Y SOBRE TODO SU GRAN AMOR POR ROSE LA TOUCHE, DE LA CUAL NADIE NOMBRA A PESAR DE SU CORTA VIDA, FUE MUY IMPORTANTE PARA ESTE GRAN HOMBRE
Re Ruskin and Effie his wife,I was told by an art historian at the Ashmolean Oxford, divorce was not possible, that is why Effie said the marriage had not been consummated, she was better suited to Millais,as he was into pretty women.
Thanks for the music video ! Unfortunately it was spoiled by someone talking in the background . Luckily he was barely audible so didn't ruin enjoyment of the music ..
HI I was writing to ask if I may use a clip of this video for a local, non-profit documentary about Ruskin, Florida, a small town whose founders were influenced by Ruskin. My doc is about the town, but I think it's important to acknowledge John Ruskin for those who don't know about him. I will of course provide credit as well as a link to this video so people can learn more about Ruskin the man through your documentary. Let me know what you think!
Forgive me if I’ve got this wrong: This historical video was FREE. Yes? The producer garners no renumeration from its offering. Yes? So imagine that YOU were the one GAVE this away and had to read comments about how inadequate it was. Really!
It's amazing the things that can be achieved when you remove sexual relations out of your life. Yes it's true all of his books all of his achievements he died a virgin
This is a good piece of work but it's spoiled but the pointless noisy music. Whose stupid idea was it to add it? What would Ruskin have thought? - nothing very good I'm sure

Thanks for posting, there should be much more documentaries about John Ruskin.
...but a little less music would have been better. :)
A truly great but underrated man. He also influenced Proust and Lawrence and the arts and crafts movement, which is still very much alive today.
There is no wealth but life. Really enjoyed watching.
Thanks for the video about John Ruskin! I recently read The Queen of the Air and really enjoyed it.
It's a great help to get viewer's comments.
This can help on future projects which are in preparation.
Please remove the background music, it's very disturbing. Anyway, it is a good documentation.

This documentary looked interesting, so I started listening, in hope that the music would stop after a short while. Alas, it did not, so I did.

a great artist, economist, art critic and patron who publicized J M W Turner.
The late author of "The Polity of Beasts" was a big Ruskin fan. That influence was everywhere apparent in that and his other novels.
Many thanks for the insight into the oeuvre of this extraordinary personality!
More work on John Ruskin please! remarkable man.

I have noted them
In the library at KSR was a beautiful white vellum art book by Ruskin..steel engravings bound into it ....wonder if its still there and what its worth
Music is too loud. Such a shame I would have liked to learn more about this remarkable man.

too bad the visual quality is not better in this video.
pity the film quality is not better
But he left no offspring
He more than made up for that.
Can't take the music.
Shame - the music overpowers the narration, and is silly besides.
Aryeh Finklestein So sorry, you’re disappointed. Ask for your money back.
😂

Ruskin was a prophet.
It's amazing the things that can be achieved when you remove sexual relations out of your life. Yes it's true all of his books all of his achievements he died a virgin
The music interferes with the narrator. Awful. Could not continue to listen
This is a good piece of work but it's spoiled but the pointless noisy music.
Whose stupid idea was it to add it?
What would Ruskin have thought? - nothing very good I'm sure
felix thorne Ask for a refund

Dreadful music renders film unwatchable. What a pity!
