  • Made in 1951 by the U.S. Army to train combat infantrymen during the Korean War, RECONNAISSANCE PATROL shows the organization of a nighttime patrol behind enemy lines, made to gather intelligence on enemy positions. The objective of the patrol is also to capture an enemy soldier so that he can be interrogated.
Told from the perspective of the commander, the film explains in great detail how the patrol is organized, equipped, and how the soldiers conduct themselves during the mission. Soldiers move slowly and deliberately, trying to keep themselves hidden from the enemy. At 9:10, a friendly artillery strike is made that allows the squad to cross a river in rubber dinghys while the enemy is distracted. At 14:50, the squad uses red-lensed flashlights to communicate with each other. The squad gains valuable intelligence while spying on a sentry post near "hillside village".
At 17:30, an enemy soldier who was attempting to go to the bathroom in the wood is captured by the squad. The squad's interpreter explains to the soldier that if he wants to live, he needs to cooperate. The squad then begins a slow retreat from enemy territory, recounting its steps, re-crossing the river, and making its way back to friendly lines.
Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you'd like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we'd love to hear from you. Is that the voice of Raymond Burr? He used to play Perry Mason, and Ironside. He played Steve Martin in the American version of the very first Godzilla movie.

6:00 By the 60's it was found that covering only the firing eye, insures you're ability to see after the flare. The enemy, you can bet your ass, had both their eyes open, giving your firing eye the opportunity to detect their location more readily, and avoid contact. 19:00 subdue the prisoner's belt buckle, shirt tail it & blacken his face, neck, & any shoulder or collar insignia's.

Fun to watch but not realistic in a real combat situation. This is so old its not even like this during the 🇰🇷 Korean war or world war two.
Definably not like this In Vietnam 🇻🇳 alot more risky and scary but also alot more planning and stealth involved.
But yes this cover the basic idea of reconnaissance patrols. But so. Much more goes into it... A whole lot more that what was shown here...

The military is very smart! By calling this group an infantry, the enemy will expect to confront diaper clad opposition. BRILLIANT!

    Soldier 1- “HALT!”
Soldier 2- “It’s Sargent Walters, on our way to the M*A*SH unit up the road!”
S1-“Ok, but first a question,… Who made the mistake of doing it again?”
    S2-“Britney Bitch!”
    S1- “Carry on soldier!”

Merle Morrison I wonder why they didn't kill him?!!!! Their deep in enemy held territory you don't gave the time or luxury of being nice.
U gotta kill him and then get out your mission is already compromised at this point.
      No time for dicking around..
The real enemy didn't play wargames and OP-4 LIKE the U.S Army does here they ain't gonna follow the script...
Their gonna improvise their gonna shoot their gonna kill you.!!!
So u better kill them first.!!!
None of this crap was realistic
Its a video to teach basic basic basic ideas but its poorly done because it makes it seem easy
      And all chill..
Its alot more tougher than what was shown... Alot more stressful. Alot more dangerous..
