Wow! I can't believe I made that comment almost a decade ago. Yes, I got the job! I ended up working at 2 libraries for a total of 5-ish years, but I'm in a completely different field now! @@MrTod1984
@@lolsmileyface493 What an old post I made! YES, I got the job! I ended up working in two libraries since then! Completely different career field now but I loved working at both libraries and I'd recommend it to anyone if they're interested! You quickly learn the DDS it's no biggie at all!
Brenda Scheiner - "You show 636.75 coming before 636.73 when you replaced the book That might confuse some people." YES!! I work at a library and I noticed that right away (glad someone else did!) - there is no excuse for making such a mistake. I can understand a newbie doing that, but in an instructional video????
Good point. However, I think the Instructor was creating a real-life situation where an untrained book handler such as a Patron who is clearly unfamiliar with the Dewey Decimal System; would place a book back on the shelf in the wrong place. This is also a trick an instructor does to see if his or her audience is paying attention. Well done!
I don't know what I find funnier. The fact that I willingly clicked on this video, or the fact that I find this topic genuinely interesting. Also, you put 75 before 73. That is pretty much the opposite of what you were telling us to do later on, and is driving me slightly crazy.
This was really helpful, thank you! I'm trying to essentially learn the DDS and shelving books overnight for a job offer. Thanks for this great video!
Did you get the job?

he wasn't really focusing on those books but the ones after them. I can see your point though.

It must have been a mistake, haha.
I caught that too. Oopsies.
636 identifies animals. Dogs are 636.7. Anything beyond 636.7 defines types of dogs.
how do you know that 636.7 is dogs? is there some kind of chart orrr
@@francisforeverrrrrryes there are manual books for dewey decimal classification that tell you specific call number for specific subject
Very helpful, thank you for posting this.
Thank you now it that was interesting and makes a lot more easier to find the books you need.
This is helpful but,it would be even more helpful, if you had zoomed in closer to the call numbers.
What happens if the decimal number is the same? Do those get shelved alphabetically?
They get shelved by Authors Last name, then first name, then title
@@ramjotgrewal2580 ok, thank you
The 600 category is Technology, isn't it? The 500 category is science. Wouldn't dogs be listed in the 500's?
Domesticated animals do fit under "applied science". Biological study of dogs would be somewhere in 599 (mammals). (I miss working as a page.☹)
From where I can get this book stand to seperate books ?
A search for book ends may get you what you're looking for.
Thanks excellent but I know that learning more ☺️
needed at Lamont and Chicago branch's
thanks man
Isn’t this system now obsolete?
what is catalogue though
Wat is the meaning written below
The main class no. Of DDC
I just don't get it?!!!!!
You need a DDC list of classes. This one in Wikipedia could be usefull for a start en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Dewey_Decimal_classes
Your Samoyed book should be shelved before Spaniels!
just aim exam for ebooks pending
