Put up a 160 foot at roughly 100 feet high and 560 feet in circumference. Method I used was spread fish line on the ground, attach sinker and using a sling shot shoot over pine and/or spruce trees. Attach cord to fish line on back side of tree, pull back over tree and attach pulley with antenna threaded through pulley. Pull up four corners with coax attached. Used this for about 15 years until a move required bringing it down. On 160 with 100 watts against amp'ed system was an out and out winner much to their chagrin!
Good work, men. Some people who haven't put up an antenna like that, don't realize how much work that is.... many things need to go right to make it all happen. That is quite an accomplishment. If I could just get you to come over to the house this weekend to help me with mine. 73.
Great job! I've done something similar to this, but I did not put the balun in the tree. I used balanced line or twin feed all the way back to the shack, straight into a balanced line AMU.
I like the loop but room for Delta,4 to1 at 50ft. Have trim some limbs. Just have FT-DX1200. I don't belong to a club I did it one time and I didn't like the politicia. So I'm on my own to this project. Been off the air for about 20 years can excited to get back in to it that all these new digital stop in the computer starve it time close meal curb. I see you are using the same computer program going get it. Catch on the air some time. 73 Paul KQ4CD
Awesome video! How did you determine the unun needed to be 4 to 1. I'm just curious. I plan on doing a full wavelength loop as well around my yard. I have plenty of trees, luckily. I just wanted to make sure. I won't be able to get as high but I'll aim for 40 to 50 ft. Im waiting on hearing back about a transceiver that does 10m to 160m from an old ham that passed. Once I find out about that I'll get to work on the antenna. Also I have an mfj 16010 antenna matcher. Would that correct impedance mismatch or would I still need the unun? Thanks in advance, 73s.
Use a 4 to 1 balun for any full wave loop that you build. It brings the impedance down. Take a look at a more recent video that I made only 160 contest. We have switched over to using vertical antenna And EFHW antenna in an invereted L shape. It's easier to put up. You will need several helpers to put up a 160 loop. Good luck. Steve - Ad4xt
Great Video and what a nice crew! Off hand do you recall the ratio of your BALUN? And what was the SWR on 160M. Looks like you had some fun... keep er up! 73 W1SWL. BTW I will be putting up a 80m loop in the Spring when the weather allows...
The balun was a 4:1 current balun. The swr was under 2:0 for part of the band. I would recommend having an external tuner to cover the entire band. You will be happy with that 80M loop when you get it up. 73' Steve Ad4xt
Hello All. Also take a look at this video I made this year. th-cam.com/video/aX5TCP4SeSE/w-d-xo.html This is an overview of the two antennas we used this year in the 160M contest. The big loop is great. Put one up if you have the room and can get it high. The elevated vertical or an EFHW are two more options . We did very well this year with these two antennas. Steve - Ad4xt
I enjoyed the video and learn some good tips also. And I am a 160 meter lover myself. YALL keep up the good work and Ham it up. 73 AE4OY WILLIAM A. Peacock,Sr. EM-81UF
long catfish or salmon pole, 25lb test mono line, 3oz teardrop or cannonball weight. get up to about 75ft. Works 1st try almost every time. If you can fish, you can stick up an antenna.
I was wondering how much power was yall using I didn't see a amplifier so I guess a 100watts and a wire loop. LOOKS to be alot of fun except for sleeping in a tent in 32° weather ! 73 AE4OY William Peacock EM-81UF SOUTH EAST GEORGIA

Right on Fred, I'll take a good antenna system over an amp any day.
Thanks for watching. Steve

very cool, I have got to get to work on getting my ticket, I am lucky enough to have just enough room to put up that same antenna at home!

Think big, I like it!
I would love to see a person put up 4 eighty foot poles up and construct a big rhomboid.

Yea, 100 watts and alot of wire in the air.
Wonderful 👍
Doe the loop work all the way around 360 degrees?
Yes, we had contacts in all directions.
Did you work K1RX?
Good fun! It was a lot of work but worth it. G6XIB
I am wanting one of those icom 7300’s and a yeasu 991A but I can’t find anyone to trade for a kenwood ts 2,000 ughhhh I hate being disabled and broke
Stay in touch with your local club. I know we have helped fellow hams out in our area with donated equipment at times.
Take care. Steve - Ad4xt
