Hi so in the table top game Of Cyberpunk there are two types of first responders in the medical world. The two services are Trauma Team and the Meat Wagon. The Meat Wagon is the low end service and is use by the police to take bodies away from crime scenes. And who David's mother worked for. So you both have a great day and STAY SAFE. 👍
I think David's mother was either an EMT, or assistant coroner. In the original pen and paper game, an EMT does get full medical for them and their family with a minor 100 cred co-pay, but because the coroner is considered an independent contractor with the police (they determine how someone died and are paid by the funeral homes per cadaver) their pay is reflected by the amount of work they have on any given day, and medical insurance is roughly the equivalent of half a month's paycheck for those below the low income line. Adding in a private school's cost for David, and it's no wonder both she and he were in what equated to a studio apartment.
David's mom worked for Meat Wagon, which is a less premium version of Trauma Team. They basically work as city EMTs, but they take only the jobs the bigger groups don't outbid them on. So the workers are severely underpaid relative to other corpo groups. Most are like Gloria, scavenging cyberware from the corpses they clean up after.
For how David's Mother was involved with main, she was basically a Cyberware supplier. in the first episode they showed her picking up the psycho's body, and later she's holding onto the jacket all bundled up after she gets home, and the sandevisand that went missing is taped into the back of that jacket. so she's basically been nabbing good tech off the dead in what must be an impressive slight of hand and mastery of cyberware installation since the sandevisand itself didn't have any parts from the last user on it.
David's mother was a first responder, but on the side she was klepping and selling cyberetics to sell black market. In the first episode you see her receive a call from Maine.
Rebecca is one of the fan favourites. Also, I think that the car chase scene (with car behaiving weird and unrealistic) is reference to how janky cars worked in game.
I always figured that that was just Trigger having fun and overexaggerating the movements of the car. That sort of thing is practically a staple of their animation style.
A major reason the car behaved so insanely was that David spent over half of the time he was driving with the Sandie active. It's one thing to be operating on a vastly different time scale when you're only having to operate your own body, but while driving? That adds a whole new level of Tom Fuckery.
You was right the first time around, Faraday's Voice Actor is Giancarlo in the english dub. The name you saw in the credits was probably the Japanese dub's VA
Gloria Martinez supplied Maine's crew with high end cyberware that she took off of corpses from her day job as a paramedic. She didn't go on runs with them, but she was considered to be a full member of their crew and not just a contact or source.
Becca is best girl. The true ride or die. Wish it wasn't such a wait between reactions. Things really kick off next episode and I'm excited to see your reactions going forward
The thing you have to understand about the world of Cyberpunk 2077 is David's mom worked for the city as a EMT which is vastly underfunded. Anyone can use those ambulances just like today. The ones who came at the car crash are a private medical care company that operate like mercenaries in a way. They have access to aircars (seen in the first episode when the police took down the one dude and something only the super wealthy can afford) so they can get around MUCH faster and such. They have access in real time to their client's status so they don't even have to be called if they are harmed in any way. They also heavily arm their EMTs who are also trained to extract their clients from even very dangerious situations. Because of this "premium" service all the rich and wealthy pay them and since they don't care about the city's hospitals and such they don't poor any money into it making it even more undrefunded.
Guess the Trauma Team thing is a bit confusing. And I feel like the show kind of expects you to have played the game a bit to know some of the context. So Trauma Team International is a corporation that specializes in rapid response medical services. It's not really part of any government body so if you're not a client, they are not going to help you. But on the other hand, if you give them something like 34 grand a month, they will fight through an army to get you to a hostile and they will pay for your care. 4 min or less guaranteed. The other thing is Night City is a free city so it's not really part of the New United States of America (NUSA) and it was pretty firmly taken over by Arisaka so most of the city services are corrupt and protecting people they probably shouldn't protect. Kind of why it's the city of dreams, you can get anything or be anything in it on paper. Those guys that killed Gloria where probably far richer than she was, but it's kind of an Icarus situation.
Ah okay. Thanks for giving us more info on the Trauma team. We just assumed that was like the ambulance team from this world just called something different 🤗
Absolutely love this show! You guys should check out the game trailers when you’re finished, they’re phenomenal! I think you’d enjoy a playthrough as well 👍
The fun thing about the ridiculous traffic mayhem scenes in this show is that they are actually a joke on how bad the game's physics were for vehicles :P
Similar to how the Gojo Vs Makima contains spoilers for Samurai Jack Vs. Afro Samurai, the newest Death Battle kinda-sorta has a spoiler for Chuck Norris Vs. Segata Sanshiro, so I'd recommend doing that battle after Gojo Vs. Makima.
17:36 "a world where everybody has to pay through the nose for everything", yeah, it's really a major theme of this IP and most other IPs in the cyberpunk genre. Late stage capitalism or an exaggeration of the society that we live in right now, but it's a warning for us and hopefully we don't get to that point. What's strange is that most cyberpunk media, I think especially this IP, also makes people, definitely me included, want to try living in this world because it's so pretty with all its neon lights and technology but there's that underlying tone, something like impending tone that you can get ended anytime and pretty easily because the world runs on money so much.
I love how Faraday (yes, voiced by the legendary Giancarlo Esposito) showing up at the end is essentially a reminder that there's always a bigger fish. Just when the characters feel like they're on top of the world the grim dystopian reality comes barging in to put them back in their place. They're not special. Not really. They're just mercs, who work for Fixers, like Faraday, who work for grunts of the corporations, who work for the middle management etc. Its a never ending cycle and the people on top are literally living in fear of losing their power I'll say it here for later: The only way to win is to LEAVE Night City
Whee! Great reaction! And finally meeting best-girl (tm) Rebecca, too. Keep an eye on that one, she really is best girl, as you'll see. =) Lookong forwards to the next one!
Rebecca is indeed a fan favorite, one of my favorite's. Also the wrist cannon is one of my favorite cyberware. Really handy for those...explosive...means. XD
This episode does a good job of beginning to show how outlaws live in this world. Maine and his crew are constantly in danger, they could die on any gig, but they live well, and they have a family in each other. Most people in this world who just work a shitty job have no agency over their lives and experience profound isolation under exploitative capitalism. But the corporate life isn’t much better either. In the game, you’re constantly stumbling over the fallout from corporate assassination plots or carrying them out yourself as a paid Solo. Reading the emails and personal correspondences of your targets or random dead corpos around the city reveals they live a life of constant paranoia and vigilance of their peers. They’re constantly fucking each other over in the most gruesome and cruel ways. In this world, I can’t imagine wanting to live as anything other than an Edgerunner with a crew or a Nomad with a clan, there’s just no other organization where you have any kind of mutual aid or support, or trusted community even. I guess the Mox are pretty alright too.
In fairness, if someone in the game welched on premium chrome to me and I had to go hunting after the gonk that stole it from me I'd prolly be as much of an asshole on first meeting too.

mind you, then there is Max-tac, honestly, Trauma and Max-tac are a little nerfed in this show, they are pretty dangerous in the game, and even more in the ttrpg, also known as the "Cyberpsycho squad", they are the best equipped force in the city, and are the guys in the opening, that took out the Cyberpsycho, Interestingly, they are essentially so Augmented, many of them are basically cyberpsycho themselves. some are even Psychos that got recruited to the team.
Maine doesn't run the gang fairly for altruistic reasons. He does it because it's sustainable. Less likely someone will double cross him, or drop out. Ultimately I suppose it makes no difference. Fair is fair even if for selfish reasons.
A few things I learned not just here but playing the game is that in the world of Cyberpunk, The law isn’t always your friend, the corporations and gangs may hate each other but they also can’t exist without each other. Also a Corrupt First responder might just be more Trustworthy than a straight cop who does their job….just sayin.
I might be late to say this about this episode, as there been some discussion on “Rebecca” during this show. As there been some craziness within the creators saying that Rebecca should have been cut out. With critics on the show saying that Rebecca looks too small as s child in a mature show. If the creators didn’t remove her because of her appearance, they would have cancelled the entire series till later they got clear on her personality and behavior being adult. So it seems interesting to say that this episode had some issues in artistic approach to characters out there.
They made a post about that on their Community Tab. Sadly they have been getting strikes on it and aren't keen on risking the channel for that. Pretty sure they still finished it on Patreon.
Yeah we got a strike on a video that was a week old so we took down all episodes just to be safe. They are all on Patreon in the $1 tier. And we finished episode 17 this past Sunday so all episodes are up
This ten episode series basically revived interest in Cyberpunk after its initial launch that was a catastrophe. Since then CDPR released their finalizing updates to engooden the game and release the DLC. To be frank from an outsider perspective. The final boss in the initial release for many years was a joke compared to the history of the source material. Now they are actually somewhat competent and a threat. Because unless fortune favors you and you win and even then as ive read, the DM might BS a way to kill you powered by their salt level, its a guaranteed death. The 2077 game final boss even after all this time can still be classified as kind of a joke unless you the player limit yourself for the challenge.
