A bad day of fishing still beats a good day at work! That was a nice Oscar, it pulled plenty of drag on that lite outfit, as did that Mayan! In 50+ years of S FL canal fishing I think I have caught 2 bow-fins on artificial baits, both in rapidly moving water below an open spillway.
Cool video i lived in ft lauderdale from 67-76 and fished the glades and sometimes canals but never seen all these exotic fish of course we didn't have those big lizards either.
@@TheFishingNomadpeacocks were introduced in the early 80s to help control the invasive species and I don’t think that it worked. But on the plus side the peacock bass draw fishermen from all over the country and that creates good revenue for fishing. Only place in the USA where you can drive to and catch them. Hawaii has some but it’s not drivable lol. But if you are super rich you can go to the Amazon and catch 20 pound peacocks. But for a poor country boy like me South Florida is where it’s at. Most people can only dream about catching peacocks so I get to live my dream every year for a week on vacation. Everglades is my next destination for the next vacation
Try south Miami if you want to catch some nice peacocks. We are from Virginia and we just go canal hopping and we have a blast. Caught a 41/2 pound peacock on 6 pound test and a crappie pole and reel. And talk about an adrenaline rush 🔥not too mention that we probably caught a hundred or more in a few days. Live shiners are like bass candy and we even got a tarpon and that was insane on ultralight tackle. South Florida is a paradise for fishermen 🎣🔥💯

Funny enough during my first three trips to this spot I got three bowfin on artificials. Then I got zero during all my next trips here.

Most of these were first spotted in Florida in the 80s. I wish these canals were more natural and not filled with these exotics.

Is this on the ease or west of Florida? I live in Naples. Great video btw!
Kind of if the middle, but more east. This is roughly 10-15 miles west of Krome Ave.
