- Gear Check!!! This Gretsch Brooklyn Jazz Shell Set is worth every penny. I played it in 3 different tunings and it´s really stunning what sound you can get out of this drumset. Especially the 18" kick sounds huge! Let me know which of the different tunings is your favorite and what you think about this kit. It´s also available in a Rock shell set. Cheers Simon

For me, mid tuning for Tom's and snare, and low tuning for bass drum :)

Sounds great!!! I think I prefer the high pitched version, but the bass drum sounds beautiful in any version! What are the drumheads on the bass drum?
It's a coated Remo Powerstroke 3 and a coated Remo Ambassodor as a resonant head.

The floor tom... the square size has been a default size for decades and one wonders why. To me it's just too many overtones and difficult to tune. I went with shallower floor toms on my new set. I still get a fundamental tone, of course, and more articulate.
I know what you mean. I sometimes have the same problem. But only with 14“ floor toms. What is your new set?

How portable is that kit?
I think with the 18" Kick, 2 Toms and the snare it should fit in a small car. With some lightweight hardware , a cymbal backpack and a transport barrow you can maybe also go by train or subway :-?
