We liked it so much I was contemplating trading in another Super Duty but at 45k difference I decided to keep it and picked up a Ranger XLT 4wd 2.7 for about the same coin. I use it as my daily driver to jobsites and will use the SD for the front end loaders and heavy equipment. I love the power and it feels like Im driving a G0-Cart.
Im trading in my 2023 F150 Lariat for a 2025 Ranger Lariat.. i need a smaller truck, and i fit remarkably well in the ranger for a man that is 6 foot 4
Colorado Bison is still about the baddest offroad pickup you can buy right now. Ranger Raptor has it beat for high speed desert running but not all around.
Just a few days ago I bought a Ranger XLT with the V6. Love driving it! FYI the things you said were missing on the Ranger can be added with the XLT-high package and/or technology package. Or of course the Lariat trim has all those options included.
Great comparison! I think Ford investing on the 2.7L Ecoboost V6 early on is now paying off. Having this as an option on the Ranger is a perfect match imho it's "Nano" for the full size segment but not so much on the midsize. It's also an underrated engine
Had the 2.7 in my f150 for 8 years and it was a beast for such a small engine. Trouble free and fast. I can't imagine a small truck like the ranger with a 2.7. I bet it would be a blast to drive.
what is weird is the Chevy mileage figures are almost identical from the midsize to the fullsize 1500 Silverado with the same engine 310/430 and 8 speed.
Thats probably because the Colorado is almost as wide and almost as heavy as a Silverado. All these new mid-sized trucks have a wider track width than previous mid sizers.
FORD was extremely lazy with 2024 Ford Ranger. The majority of them have rusted drive trains just because Ford wanted to pinch pennies to not coat them.
@@somanyroads1229no replacement for displacement and the in-line will have more torque naturally, both are boosted. Many compare the 5.0 Coyote to pushrod Ls/Lt’s when the Lt6 is more of a competitor but so was the ZR-1’s of the early 90’s that produced Coyote numbers. Naturally the coyotes are going to scream and put down great numbers while taking full advantage of the 10 speed with its high revving power at a cost of efficiency. So in short it will produce more out the box for a shorter period. Honda’s make faster engines than Toyota but not as durable.
Evaluating similar displacements, I will always choose the engine with more cylinders. It’s always going to be “smoother”, because you are dividing the engine rotations by 50% more cylinders. Think of how smooth a 4 cylinder motorcycle is compared to a v-twin Harley with the same displacement. For the same reason, you will usually get less engine wear and tear and thus greater longevity. DROP THE TURBOS!!
I'm quite impressed how the Colorado inside options are better and the deck lining. The Finder flares. I would prefer to V6 for the Power and Torque. The think a Diesel would be good (if they had option). I wonder what they difference with the figures would be.
I have analyzed both trucks in one day personally. Talking about interior space for passengers and seems that the ranger has more space due to the center bevel on the back of both driver and front passenger seats. Which in the Colorado does not.
Another thing that I don’t understand on the Colorado is there is no 4Low on the Colorado LT. You need the Trailboss or higher to get 4Low on to the Colorado. On the Ford Ranger XL Trim does have the 4Low which is Ford’s starter trim for the new generation Ranger.
The Ranger with the v6 would be great but it was a year or so behind the Colorado ‘23 . I went Chevy and haven’t regretted it..but my next truck may be a Ranger someday..!
This was my experience with the Colorado ZR2 I drove earlier this year. The engine just doesnt seem to make the power/torque that they claim. And there are countless videos out there now that seem to back this up. Towing tests and acceleration tests where the Colorado just doesnt do what it should based on its numbers. I personally owned a 2014 steel body F150 Supercrew 6.5' bed with the 3.5L Ecoboost and it was MUCH stronger down low than the ZR2. I also had a 2018 F150 XLT Supercrew with the 2.7L as a rental for a week and remember being pretty impressed with it and thinking it felt at least as strong as my 2014.
0:35 look at the difference at the engine bays. One looks sloppy with pipes are wires crisscrossing everywhere and one looks well designed and clean. Also the infotainment system seems miles better on the Chevrolet with the ford looking last gen.
27k on my Canyon Denali. Love it, love the 2.7T 4 banger. It's a beast. Ford.. especially Ford. no thanks I'm good! Should I mention this world class 4 cylinder GM engine has more torque than even a 5.0, 2.7, 5.3, 5.7, and even a 6.4L HEMI. Cant deny the facts, sure you could get a raptor but then your feeding it premium and getting challenged by Honda civics on city streets. How will the 4 banger hold up you ask? 5 year history in the full size Silverado and Sierra and has proven to be undeniably reliable, moreso than GM V8 offerings.. As far as mileage I acheive 25mpg daily, on occasion over 30mpg.
I have a Chevy BOLT Electric Vehicle…I carriered 10 sheets of 12 ft…yes, TWELVE FEET sheets of corrugated roofing panels from Home Depot. Having only 2ft extend beyond the hatch. These pick-up trucks couldn’t even handle that load! Who needs a mini-pick-up ?!
As someone who driven the Chevy 2.7 in a Silverado for 5 years now, I would not hesitate to trust this motor in a smaller package. I have no experience with the Ford 2.7 so I have nothing to compare unfortunately.
I have had way more issues with my Z71 and had none with my Ranger tremor I traded in on it. Z71 is a 2023 and the Tremor was a 2021. Drove the 2.7 Ranger and no comparison, V6 is way to go. My Z71 is a really nice truck but will be going for a 2.7 Ranger next time.
Hi Ben, not sure if you have tested the two but I have a 2019 Ford Ranger that I've had a lot of problems with. The early rangers have well documented transmission issues and mine certainly falls in that category. I've never had issues with the 2.3 v4 but the combination of the engine and transmission has made power delivery and drivability less than ideal. So I guess my question is, do you have any opinions on if the new rangers which saw an overhaul to the transmission in mid 2023 are a big improvement over the older generation? I love my Ranger and despite all its problems, am hesitant to sell. Especially knowing that the price of them has gone up over 10K since 2019. I paid 30K for mine and mid 40's seems like a lot to consider, but if the v6 and new trans are that much better, I'm open to it. Your thoughts are appreciated. Thanks, -Nick
Just to address a comment in the video. Be careful adding aftermarket heated seats to a vehicle and what brand you use. My buddy bought one of those heated seat pads for his driver seat and it burned his Tundra to the ground at the top of a mountain pass in the middle of Winter while he was out taking photos. I wasn't there, but from what I gather, by the time he realized his truck was on fire, there was nothing he could do. He had to hike miles out through the snow.
Not sure how having a switch to lock the rear diff is "less features" than some relying on some algorithm to make a bad decision for me. The Ford wins in every category by this comparison.
The general issue with the Ford eco-boost 2.7L is the amount of recalls that engine has had in conjunction with engine failures and that’s not up for debate its a fact. The GM engine probably is pretty good, but it sounds like a rental car to me and I’m not excited about that small displacement engine that GM, offers as the only option, which is why I would not buy a Colorado.
I think they are very close to each other. Both drive trains seem superior in the mid- size truck market, though I would give the edge to the Ranger. The little convenience feature of the push button start lacking on the Ranger to me is a negative. You get used to leaving your key in your pocket. I think both of these trucks should be taking market share from Toyota, especially since they cost significantly less and there are deals to be had with the dealership.
gm looks better, more features at the same price levels, makes more torque and only 5 hp less, ranger will tow 7500 GM is 7700...10 speed is about the only perk.
Personally, I'd rather have a Nissan Frontier... But between these two, the Chevy looks so much better. And the Chevy interior is much better (especially the gauge display).
From the outside of those Canyons and Colorados they actually whine like a diesel which is a neat sound and I can say it doesn’t bother me at all, but let’s be honest for a minute, you can get a AT4 and Denali Canyon or even a ZR2 Colorado for 45k and get the beautiful interior if you’re smart enough to haggle with a dealer for 10% off 😅 if you’re paying MSRP you’re an idiot🤷♂️ You would also be hard pressed to find a Ranger without Markups and dealer addons let alone a ford dealer who is willing to negotiate on them.
The biggest thing is that a XLT 2.7L doesn't make sense. A loaded up Colorado Trailboss 24 with every package on it is going to cost you in the neighborhood of 41-43k out the door if not less depending on your dealership pricing (with the towing/tech/safety) since those are being moved fast to make room for the upcoming 25 models that will have more amenities on the interior (heated seats/heated steering wheel/etc. that will cannibalize Z71 sales probably). An XLT with a 2.7L is going to be like 48-49 similarly packaged out with towing/tech BEFORE tax title license. At that point you're talking about basically a 10k difference in most states. Not to mention it's probably impossible to find the 2.7Ls on the lots of dealerships right now, so you're pretty much stuck with just ordering them. That's not even to mention that the damn truck apparently doesn't come with a trailer hitch control, which is asinine on a 50k midsize Truck. At that point you might as well just see if you can get a Raptor for MSRP.
I am currently able to find many For Rangers locally 4X4 XLT 2.7L with an MSRP of $45K marked down to $43K. The 2.7 Lariat MSRP $53K marked down to $51K. The Ford 2.7L and 10 spd is better.
