We have confirmation on what happened to the Windy Valley from an interview with Retro Gamer from a few months back. Iizuka noted that the level needed to be polished, but time was running short and everyone was focused on other aspects of the game. He took on the task of revising the level entirely according to the interview. Also we're (myself & supercoolsonic specifically) members of X-Hax and Sonic Retro. "Sonic Hacking" is an annual contest.
"Their competition was about to ramp up the console race into Top Gear..." [points to PS2] This, is brilliant. But I... [points to Dreamcast] LIKE THIS.
@@Detective_L If only they used SD Cards, it would've sold like hot cakes. If they try again with a new Portable Console that is on par with or faster than the Switch, it could work.
I grew up playing Atari 2600 in my grandparents attic, so when the Dreamcast rolled around, it felt like the fucking future! That thing had features which wouldn't become industry standard until at least the next console generation. Super ahead of its time and just as underappreciated by consumers.
Phantasy Star Online ver.2 when using a back-up disc/ripped disc - the following quest will freeze the game entirely at the following moments... 1. Battle Training. After finish with all monsters and you talk to Ash who is laying on the grass, then freeze. 2. Gran Squall. When Bernie is about to fix the damaged door, then freeze. This doesn't happen in the original discs of the game, however a workaround can be done by using a telepipe to get back to pioneer 2 right before you trigger the following parts of those quests - go back down the area and it should fix it.
Even without the PS2, the Dreamcast still wouldn't have been able to save Sega; they had simply acquired too much debt over the course of the 90's for the Dreamcast and its games to make it all back in time.
Dreamcast came out when I was 14 years old, such an incredible time. My friend ended up with one at launch and I was completely blown away by the console. It’s too bad it came out in between two different generations of consoles.
It's a shame SEGA went through so many hardships (brought on by themselves), because the Dreamcast was an amazing system that was years ahead of its time.
While I technically didn't buy my Dreamcast brand new, who ever owned it last didn't own it for very long. It still had the box and manual and it still had that new radio smell to it. I got it at the Electronics Boutique practically new. But the game I wanted to play was Phantasy Star Online, my first online game ever. I played it on a dial-up connection and many hours of fun were had.
1:21 I can attempt to explain that oddity. I can't 100% confirm this, but I believe that UV mapping wasn't like it is now (or at least common). Instead of applying a model's vertices to certain parts of a texture, they instead had to use basic shapes that act as a sortof projector. It's very easy to use, but has it's downsides. One of those, being the fact that textures would reflect on the opposite end of where the projection shape was rotated. A good example of this is with the modeling application, Anim8or. (It's also a great tool for newbie artists.)
Alright, I'm gonna give you FULL points for that Finish Him joke. Also I'm curious why Belokk didn't return in later games. Maybe they just moved on the other ideas.
The dreamcast is one of my favorite consoles, If you love Arcade games, Fighting games and Survival Horror games I suggest you get this system. It also had a great Berserk game too, played like Devil May Cry
Shenmue 2 Dreamcast PAL version (works only on the actual console) - when playing the mini game roll on top, first before you play the mini game do a quick save then go ahead and play the game. Don't mind losing on your bets and right after you know the answer - quickly do a soft reset of the game by pressing the following buttons on your Gamepad (A+B+X+Y+START). Load your game and choose the winning bet you saw earlier - repeat the process until you've gathered enough money. Better than doing the carry the crates with a guy who orders you around with left, right, and forward. You can also do the same process on the QTE moments of the game where you need to cross the iron bars of a poorly done building during Ren's story arc.
Such a charming system and the games all have this certain feel good aesthetic that take me back to summer of like 2000 or 2001 specifically. Shame of other things about it. Like low sales and aging.
Shenmue 3 is the must buy, the priority. Cyberpunk 2077 is only second. The Shenmue magic is hard to explain, it's the most relaxing 3D open world one has every played and the most cinematic. I love how it makes you feel, compared to it's grandchildren (Shenmue is the grandaddy of all 3D open world games, the one that started it and it's still the best 3D open world): GTA, Fallout, Yakuza, now Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption series, etc. Saving my money first for the magic of Shenmue 3, praying deeply that it'll support PC VR on both macOS and Windows 10 and will add ray tracing. God bless, Proverbs 31
7:42 "It's design didn't line up with the rest of the game" Apparently they were concerned with making sure players knew which way they were going when designing a level. I've tried the level and whilst I enjoyed the level I wonder if a new player would know what to do as it can be a bit open ended at times? It's just speculation from myself.
happy 22nd anniversary sega dreamcast!!! :3 really is sad sega dropped from consoles as i loved the dreamcast so much & have fond memories of seeing the sega saturn's 2d lineup/animated intros for their games along with playing the genesis(& completing sonic 1.) at a discovery channel store.
I loved how the Dreamcast games took this warm sunny vibrant approach to its game design. Different from that gloomy fog vibe that was common back then because of limited hardware. I play games for fun and a positive experience, and I felt that the late 90s early 2000s era really emphasized fun and positivity which I really miss in allot of video games now outside of obviously Nintendo.
someone on youtube actually uploaded a video discussing when sega began to lose their money surprisingly they started losing money after the release of the Dreamcast

honestly we NEED a Dreamcast mini in the future...i definitly would like to experience Sonic adventure and jet set radio... and maybe they could add even other (new) games like super monkey ball and billy hatcher
If it's not a Terminator in the MK11 Kombat Pack, we're probably going to get Belokk at some point. We got Skarlett. We got Tremor. It's basically just him and Hornbuckle left.
The graphics are amazing for 1999/2000. I forgot how much I loved the dreamcast. Loved playing Crazy Taxi, Jet set radio and sonic adventure!

About what
Sega: we need to play it safe on this console to make sure it's successful.
Also Sega: let's spend 50 million dollars making shenmue.
It's incredibly SEGA to spend tons of money on technological advancements, whether they'll be successful or not.
ACTUALLY it was between 47 and 70 million.
It was 47 million spread between 4 games actually, the prototype, the Saturn version shenmue 1 and shenmue 2
