Many thanks Jeffery for all your kind words and for taking the time to watch, that is much appreciated. Sorry to hear about the landlord of the Quiet Woman 👍
Great video. I did Parkhouse the same direction recently. Ended up shuffling down on my bum for the steep bits and said never again. But now I want to give it another go 🤦♂️
I did this walk yesterday in glorious sunshine, the views were amazing. The decent from Parkhouse was a liitle unsafe, but l made it down. Fantastic walk
Hi Patrick.. Great vid and music very fitting too.. Well Done on the climb and yr achievement.. Bit scary.. Testing of the knees.. Thankyou again regards Ali x
I hiked Parkhouse Hill and Chrome Hill yesterday and my thoughts were exactly like you, oh god!!! We did your route up and down. The rocks were crumbling away. After that first initial descent we went right and opted for the peat stepped path down which gave way and I ended up sliding down on my backside. I was glad I did it but I won't be doing it again soon. Chrome Hill was beautiful but unfortunately as it is Summer there were about 10 people up there. We were going to bag four Peaks but Parkhouse Hill and Chrome Hill really took it out of me. I had used up my water and was out of steam. A week ago I hiked Cats Tor and Shining Tor and didn't see one person until I reached the County Top. A great vlog which was randomly suggested. I'm glad I clicked on it. New Subscriber from Stafford who like the couple from Wolverhampton comes up on day trips. Great vlog. Where do you get your music from?
Morning Chris, many thanks for your comments, as well as watching and subscribing. You'll know yourself, having walked these hills, how challenging they are. Great walk though isn't it. The music is all my own work, details in the description below the video. Thanks again, all the best 👍
Another great watch Patrick, what a stunning scenic location, those hills are breath taking. So pleased you made it up and down safe.Thank you for sharing and best wishes.
Absolutely brilliant as per usual Patrick, thanks for your hard work and effort, it really is appreciated. Love putting TH-cam on and hoping that I see a new video from you on a Sunday! Wow, Parkhouse hill looked intimidating to say the least, big congrats for doing that; mist adds atmosphere to any walk, I rather like it but not when you want views from a vantage point, glad it cleared for the top of Chrome Hill. I have never heard a more bizarre story about the name of a pub than the Quiet Woman...Bonkers. Hope someone takes it on soon and it reopens. I'm sure it would do really well in the right hands as long as its carachter is retained. Thanks again Patrick, look forward to the next one.
Great to know that you enjoy anticipating a new video on TH-cam, many thanks for that. I've shot and completed, up to now, a total of 21 films this year. I'm amazed I've managed to do so many, but then part of that is probably as these locations are a lot closer to home. Parkhouse Hill is indeed intimidating, but worth the climb all the same. Someone mentioned that the landlord of the Quiet Woman had passed away, hence it being closed. Many thanks again Jeff 👍
What a walk that was, especially the trip down, which you had to do twice. Risking your life and limb for us. It was very atmospheric up there with the mist. You wouldn't catch me up there. Lovely as always and thanks for going above and beyond. Cheers.
Many thanks Kelly, glad you enjoyed it. I didn't double the trip down exactly, but just went back up a little in places to get those shots. It's not for everyone, but I loved it. Thanks for watching 👍
Hello Patrick that was 2 great walks really enjoyed them , that first was hard work coming down for sure and of course we don't see it quite like is when you are carry all your equipment so many thanks for all the hard work.
Another great film Patrick, those views from Parkhouse hill and Chrome hill were amazing and breath taking. Thank you for sharing the film and have a great weekend.
Beautiful views from the top of those hills….nice to see the sheep doing their thing..they don’t seem to have any trouble with the hills..suppose 4 feet are better than two…glad you made it safely
We just watched that twice, back to back! Very good, I've not been up those fells yet, but heard they are quite tough going. Excellent Patrick, thanks for making the film. ATB, Terry.
Bravo Patrick two cracking hills there ..I so envy you and the surrounding area that you live in mate.... thought youd chosen the wrong day with that mist but of course it went on to clear and give not only you but us a wonderful vista ....thank you so much and keep up the great work ....regards - Frank & Lee.........
Glad you enjoyed it Frank and Lee, yes they really are cracknig hills. Not for everyone, but if you do go they are very much worth the climb. I was glad the mist cleared quickly too. Thanks as always for commenting and for watching 👍
Excellent video Patrick. I was looking forward to this one and as always it was worth the wait. Loved the choice of music for this one too. Definitely reflected that mist filled early morning. That descent down Parkhouse hill is certainly not for the faint hearted. It’s one of the less dignified descents I find as it often involves shuffling on your bum in places 😆
Thanks Anthony, I was pleased myself with this one and the music. That descent down Parkhouse Hill is quite something isn't it! Glad I did it though and, as mentioned in this, I would do it again like a shot. Thankfully I didn't go down on my bum this time, but I'm sure that'll happen elsewhere in the future, even if it's not down Parkhouse! 😂
What a fantastic atmospheric film, you got the music absolutely right Patrick,I’v always wanted to do Parkhouse and Chrome but so far have not managed it,but this was the next best thing. It’s an ambition of mine to bump into you and get a shoutout, maybe one day,I went for a walk around Langsett last week and in the Waggon and Horses having lunch with my wife there was your double having lunch too,I’d hoped it was you and was going to say hi but it wasn’t unfortunately. What views from the top of Chrome hill,I’m going to have to do it,you have inspired me yet again. Thanks Patrick,it’s a pleasure to have watched every single film you have made.
I was very pleased with this one too, sometimes I feel I manage to hit the right notes, if you pardon the pun! They are wonderful hills, not for everyone, but worth it if you go. No defo wasn't in Langsett recently. not been over there for some time, but it's lovely there too of course. It would be nice to bump into you too sometime and I would most certainly give you a shout out if I do so. Thanks as always and all the best 👍
Just watched another of your great videos Patrick . It was as usual ,very well done . I always thought that the U.K. was a place with gently rolling terrain , your videos have shown me that there is so much geographic diversity . Wow !!!
Good morning Patrick. I think my knees would tremble coming down Parkhouse ! Can see that you thoroughly enjoyed it! We did a 14 mile hike yesterday! Started at Gradbach, went to the top above the forest, then down and around the back, bringing us to Roach End. We then headed for Ramshaw Rocks, came back via terrible boggy/squishy moorland fields, through lack of signage. We were obviously on private land, with getting lost lol, we had to climb 3 drystone walls, 1 with an electric fence in front of it and 2 with barbed wire over them. Then up the roaches, along the ridge, back through Gradbach forest and down to our car! What a day lol 8.5 hrs and we daren't stop to eat, or make a hot drink because of it getting dark! We just made it as the sun set! We slept early and are fine this morning! 😁
Hi Maggi, thanks for watching! You certainly have to go careful down Parkhouse Hill, but I can't recommend it enough. Glad you enjoyed your walk around the Roaches and Ramshaw Rocks, more beautiful places 👍
A most excellent walk you've done here, Patrick. It takes me back a few years, because I originate from Buxton, and I always liked the village of Longnor and the most beautiful countryside around. I did once go to the top of Chrome Hill, and there's some lovely viewing from the that hill, of the area, including neighbouring Parkhouse. I never went along to Hollinsclough at all, and that's a quaint little village, thanks to your walk through there. By the way, Crowdecote is lovely, too. Anyhow, many thanks for this program, Patrick, as both myself and my partner have thoroughly enjoyed it, and she's never seen any of this district before.
Nice one Ffranc, never realised you originate from Buxton. I love all the area around here too. Glad you enjoyed my film again, thanks as always for watching and commenting 👍
Wow! Parkhouse does look challenging 😳 glad you made it down in one piece. I can’t wait to do this walk later this year, despite the rugged terrain, it looks like a fantastic location for rambling. 😀
Parkhouse is a challenge, one for dry weather for sure 😀 I definitely recommend it though as it's a fantastic walk, as is the climb up and down Chrome Hill. You'll love if you do come here later this year. Thanks again for watching 👍
Interesting pub name. There's a similar one in Slaithwaite called the Silent Woman, and that too shows a headless woman on the pub sign. Could it be a drinking men's joke - the only quiet/silent woman is one without a head?
I've watched most of your peak district videos really enjoyed them. I live locally too, and having walking virtually everywhere else I've never climbed these two...don't ask why lol. You've inspired me to give them ago..
Glad you like them Chris, many thanks! Making a film of these two babies was also a good reason for me to climb them myself for the first time! Highly recommend it 👍
We're hopefully doing this walk in June. Blimey, looks a tough one but very nice all the same. No wonder they call it Dragon's Back. The walk we're planning to do is 6 miles. Thank you for this virtual tour and interesting facts.
Hey Lou and Lol, many thanks for giving this a watch! 😀 It is quite tough, but you'll love this walk. Chrome Hill isn't too bad really, but the climb up and down Parkhouse can be a bit more dangerous as it's so steep and rocky, so you might have to come down on your bums in places! 😂
epic pat, glad you went down that way or you would have missed out, parkhouse is a lot tougher than it looks, i need to go back there its been a few years, i will be in matlock later so might bump into you 👍
Mate, you are amazing!! The efforts you put into these videos is astounding! Up and down parkhouse and Chrome Hill to capture these shots. No wonder it was a tough day, and no wonder you were knackered. They are both much steeper and higher than they look in the video. Well done, my friend, very inspired. Also, the music in this is absolutely perfect for capturing the Dragons Back 👌🏻 Thanks for sharing mate 🙏🏼🙌🏻
Many thanks for the kind words! 😀 That's why I try not to film walks that are too long, especially with this one with the more dodgy climbs that were involved, but I think it's worth the effort to get the results on film. Glad you enjoyed the music too, thanks as always for your support, much appreciated 👍😀
Well Patrick you certainly chose an ambitious route coming down Parkhouse Hill. I noticed you used a sideways winding style of walking, which I use on steep descents too. At least you had a go with the challenge. Would it have been safer to use walking poles for descent though? Always a sense of achievement after a challenging walk, also to capture views from high up. p.s. (I noticed the church bells in music 😏)
Morning Shanita, yes I think climbing Parkhouse Hill in all was ambitious of me, but I'm glad I did it. Walking poles are a good idea. The issue for me is that I'm already carrying a large tripod with me, so I don't really want to be carrying poles too. I do actually use the tripod (in the shots you don't see) as a walking pole 😂 Guessed you'd probably notice the church bell, used that before for "dramatic" scenes 👍
Just did this walk today, you did well to stay stood on the way down from chrome hill. I'm not ashamed to say I did it on my bum! A fella at the bottom told me this was the hard way, doing the dragons back first from the other direction is easier. :-)
we visit this area very often (we,re in the area at the time of writing in fact)..we pass these 2 hills often and wonder,,should we try? now after watching this video I,m thinking maybe not....Im not getting any younger..so thanks for this video ,,at least we can see what its like up there without the effort and the risk..x
Many thanks for watching. Don't be put off by going as Chrome Hill is not too bad to climb, it's just that one side of Parkhouse which can be a bit dodgy, but it's still a lovely walk. All the best 👍
I remember this walk, it was one of the more difficult ones. I was approaching parkhouse and I quit 1/3 way up lol. It was too dangerous. Later someone said people died on it. Fortunately Chrome hill was doable
A short walk that packs a big punch Patrick, Parkhouse Hill even has its own Striding Edge. Are the hills shared between Derbyshire and Staffordshire?, the border must be fairly close.
Thanks again Mike. You are right that the Staffordshire border is close, but this walk was entirely in Derbyshire. If you read the descriptions below the videos there is also a map of the walks 👍
Hi Patrick. Pity about the mist but great all the same. Dodgy descent. In your intro you have a shot of a pub that looks similar to Lion Inn on the North York Moor. Where is that shot taken? We did the Coast2Coast 2015, brilliant from NZ.
Morning Chris, thanks for watching. Luckily the mist cleared very quickly so it didn't spoil anything when I was filming there. That will the Tan Hill Inn in the title sequence, taken from my 2017 film "Meadows of Muker". All the best 👍
@@solitaryrambler Hi Patrick. We viewed Medows of Muker 2017 as you suggested. Brilliant and the weather was just the same as when we walked the C2C September 2015, our only wet day for the walk was from Keld to Reeth. From Reeth to Richmond was fine. Thanks for bringing your Medows of Muker to our attention. Cheers from NZ.
Just recently discovered your channel and I must tell you what a inspiration it is.I did this walk with friends 12 months ago and nearly came to grief on Parkhouse, had it not been for a couple of guys who helped me i would have panicked and turned around. My friends had descended and were oblivious to my dilemma. Just a personal note are you a Bristol man or Wiltshire maybe? Loving the videos.
Thanks Andy, I wouldn't say I suffer as such, but I just like to put the effort in to get those shots, hence the reason I made this a very short walk 👍

I entirely agree, Jeffrey. A solitary ramble is the perfect conclusion to a quiet evening !
best soundtrack scoring yet !

Many thanks for watching and for your kind words. A little of my background can be found on the "about" tab on my channel 👍😊
Goodun boss.
Like the music choice, what is it please ?
Many thanks! It's mine, check the description below the video.
you suffer for your craft..you must have been up and down Parkhouse hill to get those shots?
Thanks Andy, I wouldn't say I suffer as such, but I just like to put the effort in to get those shots, hence the reason I made this a very short walk 👍
