  • Dr. José Franco discusses preliminary findings from a study conducted in Wisconsin over the last few seasons evaluating alternatives to winter cereal rye monocultures. Topics include the use of winter camelina to diversity winter cover crop systems and some benefits associated with its use. He also discusses the use of winter camelina as a forage resource when planted in mixtures or alone.
    Dr. Franco is a Research Agronomist/Agroecologist with the U.S. Dairy Forage Research Center based in Madison, Wisconsin. His research focus is at the intersection of cover crops systems and precision agriculture. He explores tools, technologies, and practices that improve the establishment, timing, placement, and selection of cover crops and explores the use of these crops as forages in dairy systems. His research strives to create multifunctional agricultural landscapes through the use of diverse crop rotations and alternative forages and crops.
