The story in the Jackson's "100 Ways" MV is a sort of ancient Chinese Romeo and Juliet story. In the MV Jackson is an ancient Chinese soldier who has come back to life after being killed to find his lover and resurrect her so they can spend eternity buried together. So the backup dancers are his troops who are there to serve him and to pledge their loyalty to Jackson their leader, etc. That is why it looks like he is controlling and commanding them. The Kata hand movements are the spell they are using to bring everyone back to life.
The story in "100 Ways" is actually sort of connected to the story in "Jackson's MV for "Pretty Please ft. Galantis." You should watch "Pretty Please" next, and at the end of that MV (make sure to watch all the way to the end of the credits) you will get to hear him explain the concept behind the 2 MVs and what the stories are about.
Jackson has 100% control over all aspects of his solo work because he owns it all himself. It's all part of his company. However, "100 Ways" actually was choreographed and the MV was produced under the direction of the Kinjaz. The Kinjaz have done a lot of projects with Jackson and several of his projects are in collaboration with them. I love his work but "LMLY" hits me really hard
I cried watching that MV
This has to do with Taoism where he gets called back from dead and after that he resurrects his own love from the dead. Those hand motions have very specific meaning.
Jackson is part of a kpop group named GOT7. I recommend you check them out because they have tons of good songs.
As for Jackson's solo songs I highly recommend "Bullet to the Heart", the visuals and the lyrics are just amazing, and I'm sure you'll love it. It leaves a strong impression. Also "Oxygen", "Dway!", "Pretty Please", "Papillon", "Walking". Those songs are very nice and dare I say kinda mainstream because they are mainly in English but he also has others in Mandarin (I think) and of course in Korean with GOT7.
Pretty Please is such a catchy song, I had it in repeat when I first heard it.

Megan Kennedy yaaaaa thank you!!! This song is THAT btich. Jackson is an incredible artist- he puts out art and entertainment to be rivaled. [Edit: I understand that it reminds you of the Samurai (japanese). I think that's ok considering limited exposure often borne from western minds, however, to your point on how weird it is that a white dude is the last samurai, you seem to grasp cultural differences. Furthermore, Jackson is Chinese and this video is very much a display of his Chinese culture and artistic takea. You're watching a lot of Asian content so it's worth considering the things that come to your mind, is rooted in what you've only been exposed to. Not as an excuse to say whatever because you don't know any better, but a humbling moment to challenge your paradigm seeing as how you've already commented on how weird it is that "a white guy is a last samurai"- Asian content is diverse]. This MV an excellent cultural representation and brings Jackson forward as an artist and a representativeof his culture and the global realization that Asia/eastern hemisphere is just as diverse as the west . He's A WHOLE character and arguably the most hilariously entertaining artist to exist. He's is versatile indeed.
His song is about - Romeo and Juliet -(chinese version). Jackson was a warrior. Jackson was killed by the king as they fall in love with the same girl.
Jackson's other warrior members bring back Jackson to life as to reunited him and his lover whom recently died.
The hand gesture represent some ritual to bring the dead back to life. His friends sacrific their life to bring back his lover.
End of video Jackson and his lover went back to grave as to be together.
Jackson had many great songs. Every song is different. All his song is an ART.

Dawn of Us, and Okay are my favorite Jackson Wang songs, but DWAY! sounds really good in my car. Oxygen is also really good. What I’ve heard about the 100 Ways mv is that it’s like Romeo and Juliet. Two people in love who aren’t allowed to be together, but find each other in the afterlife. The song is basically saying, you can come up with a lot of excuses not to be with someone, but you really only need one. More Wang-gae and/or GOT7 please!

Nearly all of Jackson's solo songs were written, composed, arranged and produced by himself with the MVs scripted and co-directed by him as well.
After such a long wait he took to social media to talk about his upcoming new song while sharing mini teasers and finally made his comeback with this new english single “100 Ways” which is the follow up of his 1st album “MIRRORS” that was released back in October 2019. It bringsamazing drum and base riffs combined with traditional chinese tunes (Western & Chinese Culture) along with dynasty style within a forest graveyard and soldiers using resurrection tutting skills to summon their general back to life in the beginning to search of his lost lover and toward the end he brings back his lover❤️ They return to the grave together, I know obsessive sasaengs are going crazy over the last part of the song. Thanks for the reaction!! Most of Jackson's songs are in English and his MVs are pure art. Please check out leave me loving you and drive you home that were released this year. He also released an album the pack with his group panthepack with songs more of hip-hop nature - all the songs are amazing. He also directed several MVs like gut feeling, buzz, pull up and Shanghai dreams. Every song and Mv is a pleasant surprise from Jackson.

Since when I met KPOP, I identified myself, real, only with EXO and its members' solo .. Jackson Wang was the first artist that caught my attention as much as they did, after this MV he made others as good as this one .. And it was through him that I met GOT7. Jackson is amazing, besides singing, dancing and rapping flawlessly, he is still an amazing producer and has a huge brand (TEAM WANG).. He and Lay are very kings of China..

You need to watch another video from him called "Pretty Please." It actually a follow up, continuation, sequel, whatever you want to call it...100 Ways and Pretty Please are connected. Not to mention, Jackson made sure to have the same young lady and the same dancers in both videos...for a reason. And when u do watch Pretty Please, there is a Behind the Scene moment at the end that explains a lot! Pretty Please, do urself a favor, check it out...the video and the song is so worth it...

Also technically 100 ways is not kpop. Jackson has a lot of identities and being a kpop idol is one of them. This song and almost all his solo songs in English aren't kpop. They are just pop or c-pop since Jackson is Chinese.
