This is the most dominant visual remains of one of many Lemont Dolomite Limestone quarries. A byproduct of limestone is lime itself extracted from the stone by superheating it enlarged wood and coal burning furnaces.
I was impressed with the camera work. I grew up in Lemont, couldn't wait to get out of that town, but I've developed a fascination for it. Maybe it's slipped my mind but I can't recall seeing the stack, or paying attention to it as I drove past the area. Thanks for a bit of Lemont history.
I've biked that way on the Centennial trail and taken pictures but no one had an answer for what it's purpose was. Thanks for the explanation. Excellent drone work!
I used a DJI Mavic Air. It was my first real attempt to create a video with it. My second, and only other drone video, is of downtown Lemont and can be see here: th-cam.com/video/JETNynlNt6M/w-d-xo.html

You probably have the best footage known on TH-cam of this site even better you did it before the foliage grew in.

Great shots! I drive past here for work and have been tempted to do a fly over. What equipment are you using?
