For what it's worth, I dislike deck building games, but LOVE Taverns.
There is something so charming in this game that pulls me back to it.
It can be the fact that none of us in 6 plays so far didn't have bad last few turns, or did but had the way to work around it.
It is just a blast.
And soooo quick.
A lot of people talk about the luck in the game, but I'm ok with it. I like lots of games with luck in them. Quacks, I find, is even more lucky/unlucky. The thing I like about Taverns is that with the deck building, you go through all your cards. You just may not always get them in the best order. In Quacks, I can draw white chips early in every single round since the bag is reset. But sequencing through all your cards mitigates that somewhat. It's not heavy, by any means, but I find it very fun.
People dislike the luck thats gives you a bad day. Thats why I LOVE it! You have the guy that makes you double beer but you need your washer to turn the 4 into a 5 but you didn't draw the washer! Oh well, you washer called out sick! LOL. The drafting dice keep this game on point. Try to run a real business, you will have BAD days.
If you want a game that goes your way all the time, this is not for you.
The more I play this game the more I enjoy it. I wish the dishwasher would be like workers in castles of burgundy, move the die up or down, and it feels like it needs another round or 2 I'm always wishing I could upgrade more areas but run out of turns!. I love the modular board, so cleaver! Lots of fiddly bits to the game, but that really makes it fun for me.
The Cheers theme song comes to mind.

It's interesting that some advertisement has mentioned that this "The next Quacks" From what I've seen, I can play Quacks with my 10 year old. I don't see her understanding what to do in Taverns. This one looks very interesting though something my wife may enjoy as she does Like Quacks very much. Perhaps I'll wait to see what's to come in the expansion, assuming that there will be one. Right now I'm holding off. Awaiting some great titles in the next couple of months from KS backed.
Depends on the kid I guess. My 9 year old son plays both.

Agricola
Knowing his tastes, Agricola will probably be at the top. It's been Rahdo's favorite game for a looong time ( not anymore ).
Luck will likely drive Taverns of Tiefenthal down well below Agricola and Concordia would be my guess. Not sure about Choc Factory.
I am aware that Agricola is one of his favorites of all time. Just want to see how all of them stack against each other as a 2 player game.
Rahdo only plays two-player, with the exception that he has done some solo-only lately while his wife is busy or away. The ratings of all the games he owns can be found at ranked.rahdo.com He rates Agricola at 9.8 and Concordia at 8.6 (I do recall a video where he discussed specific maps for 2-player, since not all of the maps work).
On this list are only games he actually owns copies of. So, Chocolate Factory and Taverns aren't on there. He really liked Chocolate Factory, but said it was not as good as Elysium, from the same designers, which he rated at 8.8. Taverns only ranked 15 on a list of 18 he played in November, so that would definitely be at the bottom of the list.
@@c.w.2000 are you sure he only plays 2p? I think I recall him saying that he mostly plays 2p, even on his last month ranking he said that he had not played some of the games with his wife so he was going to wait until he did.
