Adaptability would make thematic sense, at least. It's a dinosaur in the middle of evolving into a bird. Also, neither Water Spout nor Aurora Veil were ever signature moves. From the very introduction of each of those moves, there were multiple pokes who could learn them.
@BelugaTheHutt 252+ Atk Choice Band Adaptability Tera Rock Archeops Head Smash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Corviknight: 445-524 (111.2 - 131%) -- guaranteed OHKO Wthh I checked against a bunch of other mons and it basically 1-3HKOs all of OU's bulky sets (except great tusk)
Kinda unrelated but I would love to see a regional archeops where the ability is similar but altered to where it’s something like it’s attack is higher below half instead of above half, or maybe it’s special attack is what changes instead of its attack. Just kinda the basis of an idea but it could be something cool like it has 120 attack and 70 special attack but when below half health it’s special attack doubles, making it a mixed attacker but only in certain situations
This might sound broken, but I'd like to see the ability Rock Head on Archeops. It already has Head Smash, so you might as well add Brave Bird to it's movepool too. Not sure if it'll be banned to Ubers with these changes, but I just want to see the cool fossil birb see some usage and have it's time to shine :) (Alternatively, if Rock Head's too broken, then Reckless would probably be a good alternative.)
@@cdsbeo5747252+ Atk Choice Band Tera Rock Archeops Head Smash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Corviknight: 396-466 (99 - 116.5%) Lmao, thats hella banned in a tera meta yeah.
Without any stat changes, it might actually still be manageable in current OU. At 110 base Speed with access to no speed boosting moves (unless you want to run Tailwind in Singles or Agility + Hone Claws on a mon with 75/65/65 defenses), it gets outsped by a lot of fast threats in the tier. Even with a Scarf, stuff like Booster Energy Iron Valiant and 220 Attack EV Roaring Moon outpace it and threaten it out. And without a Scarf, things like Cinderace, Meowscarada, Zamazenta, Darkrai, etc can also outspeed and threaten a KO. Steel types can switch in on its STABs pretty easily, and even with Rock Head, Head Smash still has that 80% accuracy you need to watch out for. Hazards and priority also kill it regardless of its set (though if it runs HDB, it can at least avoid the former). Raging Volt switches in on Brave Bird and stops any sweep attempt dead in its tracks. Tera obviously changes the dynamic on both ends, but base-to-base it doesn't look all that crazy compared to some OU mons that are overstaying their welcome for a lot of people.
160 attack 120 speed tough claws would be pretty broken. Personally, I think a cool idea would be defeatist stays, buff its attack, and speed a smidge. Then its mega form should be a complete flip. Now it has low attack and speed and increased defenses it gains regenerator as an ability. It'd serve pretty well as a rocks lead which doubles as a defensive option. You stealth rocks and chip pokemon down, then mega evolve when it gets low. Maybe change the typing to steel flying for a better defensive typing. I doubt it'd be ou, but who says every pokemon should be in ou.
Imagine tho if Archeops got an evolution with the theme that it overcame defeatist and just gained bulkier stats, brave bird, Head smash, Double edge and moves alike. As well as of course no longer having defeatist but either Rock head or Reckless
I had an idea to maybe make defeatists a bit of a more fun ability, you keep the drawback of the ability, but when under half hp, you have a regenerator that heal 1/3 of your hp when switching out Not only that, we can go even crazier. When over half hp, defeatist could boost both defensive stat by 1.5 (if archeop doesn’t go first could be something added). Then by under half hp, his offensive stat are reduced by 1.5 but if it is switched out, it regenerates 1/3 of its max hp
@Deinoch balanced by mediocre defense and offensive stats with a slightly above average movepool Archeops has rock and flying stab at base 140 atk, and has a usable movepool Archeops doesn't need speed boost to be OP. they just need to lose defeatist
I still don't get why they gave Archeops such a detrimental Ability. Even back in Gen 5, they released Archeops alongside Volcarona, who has nearly the same bst, a _very_ good ability in Flame Body, and access to Quiver Dance. Even Arcanine, who is all the way back from Gen 1, has almost as much bst and an insanely good ability in Intimidate. They should have made its Ability either one with no usage in competitive battles a la Run Away, or made its gimmick be that it has _no_ Ability at all. Because there is placeholder text for Pokemon with no Abilities present in the games.

I love Archeops but that Tyrantrum slander tho. Bro is a dinosaur without wings, Dragon is the best type that comes to mind (same for Rampardos)
give archeops huge power
Realest thing i ever saw on social media
Arceus: Come my child... Let us ascend to the rank of Ubers...
The fact it’s a rabbit pun in Japanese implies that Archeops somehow fathered a ton of rabbits.
Why tho? 140 atk with Huge Power. 💀 naw

Just give Archeops Rock head or Big pecks then it'll immediately gain viability due to sheer stats and movepool alone. ( The Iron hands theroem.)
