    I've been kegging for about three years. My first time force carbing was a tall glass of foam!!! My brother in suds, thank you!!!! I have a party tomorrow, and I followed what you did. My hefe is total carb. for the fest. tomorrow!!!! AWESOME, just subed keep it up. Brew on!!!

    thanks for the detail... bought a cooper's kit a while back and ended up with flat beer... it was affordable but what I really wanted was the big boy toys you show here. Kegging your own brew is so cool... thanks gain.

    Great video. I change the force carb co2 line with a black liquid ball lock fitting. That way you force through the liquid side. The co2 comes out at the bottom of the draw tube and bubbles up through the beer.

      you are one smart brewer next time pull the beer out tube and get air stone and attach it to your beer out tube .release the air in the keg at about 15pst while you carb keg by ed

    The dispensing "spear" is a straight tube that runs from the inside bottom of the keg to the OUT valve where you normally connect a tap. Temporarily reversing this arrangement, one can bubble CO2 up from the bottom which does a fairly effective job of force carbonating without having to agitate the keg.

    Heh, I'm so glad I'm not alone in the fact that all of my work is done while my wife and kid sleep. I'm a meadmaker and when I do staggered nutrient additions in the middle of the night, I have to cart the brew bucket into the laundry room on the other side of the house and shut the door before I crack the lid and aerate/add nutrients. Too funny.

    Hey Chris, another great vid. You might also like to try an easier ans less energetic method ---- Just run your CO2 through the keg dispensing spear, no need to tip or roll te keg , just gently rocking about 15degs from vertical. Cheers Nick, DP Brewery, Australia

    I have a Mangrove Jacks corny keg and I don't have any problem putting a gas disconnect on to the beer-out post. It comes off no problem.

    Great keg video man. It looks like you use the same seal lubricant that I do. "Sanitary Petrol Gel Lubricant" packaged by McGlaughlin Oil Company. it's a pain to spread around but works amazing.

    I usually force carb the keg at room temperature[approx 70degrees] right after kegging for about 8-10min at 30psi. if you watch the PSI go down when you shake it you can tell its absorbing, once it sits close to 28-30psi and wont go down much anymore, I disconnect it and cool it. . As its cooling the rest of the pressure goes down and it absorbs the rest of the c02.
    about an hour later you can purge any extra pressure and hook it up to serving lines.
    You can serve that same day maybe 2 hours later but for best results is to wait overnight for best taste. I keep my serving lines to about 5-7psi . I do this for ales, and ipa's without issues.
    I believe by doing it while its warm allows the beer/carb to settle faster since it drops in temp and allows for a quicker turn around. Although it always tastes better after it sits overnight.

    Hey man. What kind of conditioning did you usually do? I know it's case sensitive, but I heard that it's always a good idea to fill the keg, put a few pounds on it and let it sit at room temp for a few weeks before chilling, carbing and serving. Thoughts?

    @BeerGeekNation I did an Brown ale extract brew about a month ago. 1 week primary, 1 week secondary and then slow carbed in at 48F for a week. I was shuned by friends who drank it and said that it was young, unconditioned and lacking a yeast presence. Could have been a weak pitch I suppose.

    I don't get why so many homebrewers obsess so much over closed transfer systems and LODO setups, when all you really need to do is siphon your beer into your keg slowly so it doesn't splash, and purge the headspace with co2 a couple times to get rid of the oxygen after you put the lid on the keg.

    change your coupler on the co2 to beer out and push co2 into keg thru the beer out tube in 5min @ 10pst.

    PSA You can substitute KY jelly for the keg lube.

    Wow, I didn't know they can sometimes take that long before being ready for the shelves. Let me ask you this, is there are beer that comes close to a Lambic or is the Lambic in its own realm? I heard you talking about fruits in your description after tasting what you had made, I'd love something that tasted more like fruit, than an actual beer. I hope all of that makes sense. lol

    Lubing up those o-rings is essential! Just ask NASA what a failed o-ring can do. ;)
    I need to get an autosiphon like that.
    So you don't cold crash, keg and then force carbonate? That's what I've been doing so I don't have to chill it another day to get it ready. I also chill my CO2 tank as well. Anyway, just another way of doing it I guess.

    I followed the force carb and had the pressure at 30 psi rolled for 4/5 min Hooked it up the next day and it poured out all foam. Not bad just had to wait 5 min to wait. I pulled the pin a couple of times and it is still foam. Its been 2 days since. How long do you think I should wait and what can I do to reduce the head.

    quick question: is it a cornelius keg? is this the "standard" for homebrewy? what is the diffirence between pin lock and ball lock? I'm bit loss with that ....

      Sorry no one has replied. You most likely have found your answers by now, but I'll briefly state major differences for anyone reading this that doesn't know.
      Ball lock and pin lock are from pepsi and coke respectively.
      The names given to both are derived from the attachment design at the gas in and fluid out posts on the keg.
      The things that connect gas and fluid lines to the keg are called disconnects!
      Ball lock disconnects have balls that grab the post when a plastic sheath is slid over them.
      Pinlock disconnects have slots that accept pins on the post when the disconnect is pressed down and twisted onto the post.
      The two kegs are different physically. The ball locks are a couple inches taller than pin locks, but the pin locks are an inch larger in diameter.
      Currently ball locks are more expensive.
      Both will treat your beer with the same respect by accomplishing the same job of protecting and dispensing it.
      Pin locks can be converted over to ball locks through conversion kits.
      There is no reason to do a conversion unless you already have ball lock disconnects for an established system or because the pin lock kegs dimensions better suit for a kegerator project when ones ball lock kegs will not physically fit.
      The last thing is a pressure release valve in the lid. Ball lock kegs have a pressure release pull valve on the lid and pin locks only have an emergency pressure relief valve on the lid.
      What does this mean? It means that one can pull the valve via finger ring to release pressure on a ball lock and one cannot with a pin lock. The pinlocks will release pressure at a preset point to prevent damage and disaster. Some regulators are set to release at a point prior.
      Does this suck for pinlocks? No. pressure can be relieved on a pinlock by depressing the center of the gas post. These centers are called poppets. They are spring actuated pins equipped with o-rings. There is also a post relief accessory available that you can buy fairly cheap. I think a pen would do fine. Some argue that the release valves of ball locks are just one more thing to go bad. Touche.
      Are pin lock and ball lock lids interchangeable? I believe they are, but be aware that there are a couple different shaped keg lids. Oval and square with rounded ends (race tracks).
      Hope this helps clarify something for someone.

    Hey man. I have a question. I kegged my brew for the first time. I set my psi at 20 and left it for about 36 hours. I checked the beer and it was slightly carbonated, so I set it to 20 psi again and put it in the fridge for another 36 hours. When I checked again it looked like it lost all carbonation. Does the cold do something to it? Thanks.

    also, when I forced carbinated I just rocked it back and forth with it was still upright, and the beer got pretty well carbinted

    I never tried to carbonate by letting it sit for a week at serving psi. Just let it sit for a week That's all? I'm interested to see if its any smoother.

    I just finished my first keg set up and I have a question. When you burp it and leave it for 24hrs before force carbing to you leave a constant 5psi on or fill at 5psi burp it let it fill back up and the shut off the c02 for 24 hours?

    i almost think i have messed up my regulator what is a tipical sign you can speak for i think i let mine fall over a few to many times and when i try to set it at 8 or 9 psi i come back a few hours later n it riases up to 20 psi or so lol i donno bout to give up on it n get a new one my self but it still gets the job doen but sux when i am trying t9o keep my psi at a low pressure but o well ....... cheers gota luv that Avery

      Nicholas Nicholas --Yes you can. You can actually buy a cap that is designed for carbonating soda or sparkling water in soda bottles. This is a much cheaper approach than Soda Stream dispensing systems.

    im a first time kegger. i did this and my beer is coming out really foamy. i released some co2 and reconnected my line back at my serving pressure at 10psi and its still coming out foamy. any suggestions?

      Have you tried a lower serving pressure? I have also heard and read from multiple sources that recommend using 10' (feet) of beer line.

      What Tony said, plus, how long are your beer lines from the keg to the faucet. Generally shorter lines will result in more foam. I run 10 feet of 1/4" tubing.

      Andrew C it's been a year now and I've kegged about 6 batches this year and while I agree with you, my first two batches I forced carbed and they just don't come out the same. I'd rather just wait on the carbing because you don't get good carbonation and I've noticed the aging on most beers taste much better. I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say lol. basically no force carb for me anymore

    Is it possible to carbonate with helium? Will it mix with the beer? Has anyone tried it? I want to make beer like Samuel Adams Heliyum.

      That is a really cool idea, but problem you run into is that the solubility of He in water is very low, less than a thousandth that of CO2. A big part of this is that He doesn't interact chemically with water, whereas C02 does, forming carbonic acid.

    There is no law that said you most stand a CO2 tank up right. I always lay it down on the counter, the floor, a table. never had a busted gage

      Just make sure the co2 is standing up while in use or it will dispense liquid CO2 into your beer.
