  • Welcome back! Found myself having more than just a minute thirty of thoughts around the ACC and the collapse that is due to happen within the next couple of months. So enjoy these predictions and overview of what is going on in a conference that is on the verge of falling apart as a whole.

A tip from someone who has been through the stages of this, the sooner you accept the changes the better life will be for you personally as a fan. Believe me, I’ve heard it all from the ones suffering from an adjustment disorder because they haven’t gotten to the place of acceptance. The fan has no control, and the changes are being driven actually by the players first with the law. Then the media deals which actually is fan driven because those are based on ratings. So, you’ll feel better if you get to the place of acceptance.

I think FSU has been thinking about the Big Ten (B1G) for a long time. We are talking about a University, not just a football program - and the amount of research money that's shared by the B1G schools dwarfs the sports media pay out. What does that have to do with FSU? Well, they've been avidly pursuing AAU membership for a few years now - and that's been the cost of entry into the B1G in the expansion era. Miami, Georgia Tech, and NC are AAU schools. And all of them bring large TV markets.
Rutgers and Maryland didn't add great football schools, but they made the Big Ten Network available on basic cable packages in NYC and DC (whether or not anyone was watching), which made the BTN a lot of money. Georgia Tech doesn't have the University of Georgia's football power (by a long shot), but it's one of the best research schools in the country, and it puts BTN on cable in Atlanta.
I guess it's what a university really wants, when you get down to it. If it's just a decision about football, or if it's about something more - and who's making the final decision. A move from the ACC to the SEC in football is undeniably a step up. But...I'm not sure if it is in any other way. Academically - not just standing, but research and academic cooperation - the B1G is second only to the Ivy League, and I'd bet the ACC is (at least in standing) a close third. Especially once you add Stanford and Cal. I don't think the SEC is really in that race. So the question becomes, is that something that matters to the decision makers at your university?
IF either the SEC or the B1G is interested. The SEC already has the market - how much do they really gain? And I've given up guessing what the B1G will do next.

I'd love for Yormark to use his billion to lure NC, Clemson & Miami into the Big 12 along with Duke, NCST, Louisville, Virginia & VTech. BY will then look at non-football schools, UConn, Marquette & Gonzaga, and maybe St Johns, Villanova & Creighton.

FSU was talking about getting out 2 years ago…this is not because of the snub.
