My man, this is a well thought through installation and presentation. I especially appreciate your effort in documenting the noise levels with actual measurements. That tells a very important part of the story. I also appreciate the presentation of information without endless babble and editorializing. Well done sir.
You did an incredible job! Totally brilliant. I can’t stand the lack of vision the RV industry has by not keeping up with what their customers want. Dometic A/C units are garbage and made to fail. I hope the RV industry watches your video and begins making mini splits standard. The next time I purchase a new 5th wheel, I’m going to require that they install mini splits or I just won’t purchase it. Maybe they’ll get the hint. Thanks for putting your video together for us avid RV’ers!
This guys man card has its own set of testicles. Sir.....this is incredible all the way around. I was so blown away when I watched this video 5-6 months ago that I have now gone out and purchased a beginner welder and tanks and am going to learn to weld. Thank you for the inspiration. I had to come back and find this video again to thank you. I hope things are going well for you and your family.
Thanks, I can always use an extra set. Hope the welding is coming along nice. We have been really busy, hope to get some videos edited soon. Thanks again and good luck on your journey.
Very nice...incredible workmanship...congratulations on a significant upgrade...The entire RV industry needs to get with the time and change how they heat and cool the RV. Dometic is very loud and not that efficient. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the video. Unfortunately, the rv industry is built em cheap and fast for the most part, and the customer has to adapt and overcome.
This is one of the better RV build videos out there. Have been wanting to do mini splits in my RV as the rooftop ACs are >10 years old at this point and can’t keep up. Wish I had to tools and skills exhibited here to pull it off!
Wow! Great layout and installation ideas, and it's obvious that you have the skills to pull off this kind of installation. After living in our 5th wheel for 5 years, the Texas heat finally dragged down our Dometic 15kBTU living room AC. I so wanted to be able to do something similar, but just didn't have the time to make it happen, so we bought another roof mounted AC. I have tremendous buyer's remorse after seeing this, and other mini-split installations, but at least I'm back in the cool. So, now I'm looking at possibly doing this for the bedroom AC, but I'm going to have to come up with some unique installation plan. You've giving me some great ideas in seeing that it can be done.
Just found your video. I really enjoy watching a true craftsman at work! I can only imagine how many viewers cringed when you took the cutoff wheel to the side of the RV. Great job!
Dude! There are DIY folks and then there are people like you! Both impressive and intimidating, and and mean that in the most positive way. We’ll done. And the rv industry should be putting these into their products today, even if it’s simply as an option.
Nice Job! We have a two-unit LG mini split mounted on the rear of our fifth wheel - two years later, still running strong and quiet. We can run it off our solar too.
Awesome job, we are getting things together too do the same to our converted toy hauler. This video is the only one thus far about installing in a toy hauler. Thank you.
Ya this the first one I’ve seen on a toy hauler and I’ve looked all over. Most people say oh no room to install it, this guys like bing bong boom done like it’s nothing not to mention he did two for crying out loud.
Great install! You are a very talented individual, very professional from start to finish. I have mini splits in my house and love them. Quiet and efficient. I can't imagine why they're not installed from the factory on RV's. I hate so much the noisy inefficient Dometic rooftop pos.
You could make a fortune installing for those of us who are afraid to tackle such a tremendous project. I'm in the Mojave Desert and my swamp cooler adds too much humidity despite also having a dehumidifier, and regular ACs only work during monsoon season because the desert is so dry.
You got some mad skills there buddy! you have inspired me to do the same, our problem is that our heater likes to shut off in the middle of the night and we wake up to reset from thermostat just to get it running again.
I love to fab, I weld and machine for a living. You sir have skills! Question, what did you use for flex from the units to the frame to allow them to slide out?
Nice job! I always wonder when there are so many people who can't do any of this, what the heck do they do. Those Dometic units are such a joke. I can't think of one good thing to say about them. I'm in my 70's now and have down sized so I lost my big shop and good tools so I am very jealous.
Depending on the model of minisplit some of them are TWICE as energy efficient as the rv AC units. There are 12,000 btu minisplits out there that will run at 720w at full load! The average 13500btu rv units will pull about 1500w under full load. That's a massive difference especially when you factor in the start up amps the rv units pull with its on-off-on-off cycle vs the inverter style minisplit that will stay on the whole time while dropping its power to match the heat load.

A couple of questions for you. How do you cool/heat the front bedroom area? How do you get rid of the condensate from the indoor cooling coil units? I liked your creative ways of putting in the Mini-Split systems.
Thanks for watching. The front bedroom sits higher so normally the hot air tends to travel that way. If it gets to hot during the day in the summer we turn on the rooftop unit in the bedroom (its has to be really hot for this to happen). There is 5/8 plastic tubing that runs from the indoor unit to the outside underneath the rv. Hope this helps
Thanks for watching. The outdoor unit that runs multiple heads is bigger and requires 220v, I wanted to keep them 120v so they could be run off the onboard generator.
Wonderful content. The best I've seen covering travel trailers and mini-splits (and there are a few). As I was watching, I was concerned about road debris and damage to the compressor. Low and behold, so were you, great idea on the mud flaps. Subscribed, I saw you attached flexible hosing from the end of your copper to the actual mini-split connection. Was that typical stainless steel flex pipe that you would find at a "big box" store?
Great video. I'm looking to do something similar to my cargo trailer toy hauler conversion, but locating the condensing unit is the problem. The flexible hoses may be the solution. Are the flexible Connectors suitable for repeated bending? Did you come across any swivel type fittings that would allow for repeated swinging of the condensing unit to move it into place? I am considering placing the condenser under the overshot where it would swing down into place when being used and up out of the way while traveling. Thanks again for the great video.
I plan to install on back bumper but I saw where a guy did that and his fittings broke seal from the flexing while traveling down the road. He solved it with 3 ft long flex hose. How did you make yours be able to slide in and out?
Wow you did a fantastic job! Love mini split systems, super energy efficient, and extremely quiet! There’s only one thing that I really would worry about is when you have a blowout on your trailer tire it causes extreme damage to the surrounding area. It looks like you’ve already upgraded your tires! Everything else you have done is fantastic! Happy camping!
Not being able to do all this work myself. Have most of the tools, welder and believe I am capable, but just not wanting to screw up a new rig. Do you think there is a place to go and have this done?
@kennethzabokrtsky6543 the unit needs to be somewhere it can get good air flow and can get rid of the heat, I probably wouldn't put it in storage or underneath where heat would have a hard time escaping.
Do your flexible line sets stay flexible after you charge the system? I have read that after they are charged they are no longer flexible. Thanks, nice job on your install.
They are still flexible, they aren't gonna do any kind of hard 90 or anything. They are very similar to the stainless braided lines at lowes that you connect water to hot water heaters.
Where did you get those flexible lines. I have found the rectorseal products online, but all the sellers only have one of the lines I need most are backordered. Any supply houses I have contacted only sell to contractors. I will mount the condenser on the headache rack on my semi so it will be stationary, but the cab has the small air bags under it , so it will move at least 3 inches. I don't think the copper lineset will hold up
You are a master fabricator! I'll be doing this work in the spring! How has the units held up so far with all the bumping and jostling from driving? Also your unit under your stairs, i notice you can't pull the unit out with the stairs down. It's that hindering the efficiency? That's where I'm installing mine.
Thanks, Units have held up great, I had a flex line fail on one unit. The new flex lines are built different so they should hold up better. I haven't noticed any efficiency issues with the stair unit, the slides are mostly there in case they need maintenance you don't have to unbolt them. Thanks for watching, hope yours goes smooth.
@@SBranchCreekAbout to buy a mini but been wondering where to install it till now haha Seen you post suplyhouse in another comment.I see peeps still asking you questions too .Nice work man!
What BTU and Seer did you say they are? I just bought a toy hauler / 36' and would love to do the same with mine! Also, all i'm seeing is Smart Inverter not dual? Thoughts?

Awesome! As a new owner, I enjoyed your step by step installation guidance! I sent it to my welder friend who will begin working on it as soon as the units come in! Thank you so much!!! I appreciate your help!! 🥳
The one condenser/compressor unit that will run 2 head units operates off 230 volts, I wanted to stick with 120 volt so I could run them off the on-board generator.
Awesome! When you can do mine?lol. Does the unit behind the steps do ok when its not slid out? Are the slide outs just for air flow or are they required for maintenance or some other purpose?
Thanks, the unit behind the steps does good when not pulled out. If I went to Arizona in the summer I would probably have to pull in out for better airflow, makes it easier to keep them clean and work on if needed.
Thanks for watching. I used the 2 seperate units so that i could run them off the onboard generator. The onboard generator is 120 volts, the one outdoor unit that controls 2 heads is 220 volts.
@@SBranchCreek Thank you! How often do you pull out the compressor on the sliding tray? I will have a different setup that will need to be used twice every time we go camping.
Excellent job .I have a question. You seem to know what you are doing. Own a motor home with a basement ac Coleman Mach .Wiring and duct work right their.Four round vents on each side. Buying a mini split cassette for the duct work running through my coach Building a drawer slide out for my out door unit and insulating my indoor unit hooking to my duct work.would I have enough air flow to do this.Duct goes up the back of motor home with a y going to the left side. Just watched you should send copies of your video to LG and to Rv company. The professional job you did should if you desire have customers coming to you in droves. Well done.
Thanks for watching and the kind words. I'm not much on cutting up other people's campers lol. The only reason I can figure companies like LG don't support RV is the beating down the road is hard on the units and manufacturers like dometic wire it and screw it 2 min install. Happy travels.
These are flexible lines that are flared and connected to the hard lines that come with the unit. The ends of the flex line are secured to the frame so that the connections or hard lines don't move or flex when moving the unit. Thanks for watching. www.ecomfort.com/cooling/mini-split-flexible-connectors.html
BTW, I just bought the same LG mini split and planning to install it under my van flat in place of spare tire. I didn't read anywhere why it can't be installed flat...
It appears you are using some sort of flexible refrigerant line between the outdoor unit and the line-set. Am I seeing that correctly? If so, what flexible tubing are you using for this?
Thanks for watching. It's flexible line for A/C, they are available in different sizes and lengths. I purchased mine from Ecomfort. www.ecomfort.com/cooling/mini-split-flexible-connectors.html
I would like to do this to my 2022 Grand Designs 312BHTS. How has yours held up with the traveling. Have you had any issues with the outside units? I was thinking you may have to add a screen guard or something over them.
No the leveling jacks are closer to the ground and should make contact first. On a recent trip I scraped the rear beam on asphalt and the units were fine.
The size of the outdoor unit. I needed the depth to be as small as possible, and at the time, LG was the well known brand that come close to that measurement. Thanks for watching.

Thoughts?
Thanks for watching. The units i bought were the 115 Mega unit each unit is 12k, 19 seer, 120 volt, dual inverter.
They may have stopped making dual inverter in 115 volt.

Awesome! As a new owner, I enjoyed your step by step installation guidance! I sent it to my welder friend who will begin working on it as soon as the units come in! Thank you so much!!! I appreciate your help!! 🥳
@@Jamimllr Thanks for watching, glad the video helped, hope everything works out and you enjoy it as much as we have.
Really nice work! Do you pull the unit under the stairs out 2 inches each time? You mentioned in another comment it worked find left tucked in
Thanks, most of the time I do pull it out so it can get as much air flow as possible.
Curious as to why you didn’t go with a double head unit off one condenser/ compressor unit? Nic job on the install.
Excellent fab. Could you have used 1 outdoor unit with 2 heads? Would the coolant line run be too difficult?
Thanks for watching. I used the 2 seperate units so that i could run them off the onboard generator. The onboard generator is 120 volts, the one outdoor unit that controls 2 heads is 220 volts.
What did you use for the flexible lines and did they hold up to regular use and movement?
@neemaborji9993 they have held up good, had. One fail due to the way I mounted it. www.ecomfort.com/cooling/mini-split-flexible-connectors.html
@@SBranchCreek Thank you! How often do you pull out the compressor on the sliding tray? I will have a different setup that will need to be used twice every time we go camping.
@@neemaborji9993 mainly to clean or if it needs service, it gets good air flow with it pushed in.
Can I get a link to the flexible hvac hoses??

Man, that was awesome!!!
Thanks for watching.
Excellent job .I have a question. You seem to know what you are doing.
Own a motor home with a basement ac Coleman Mach .Wiring and duct work right their.Four round vents on each side.
Buying a mini split cassette for the duct work running through my coach
Building a drawer slide out for my out door unit and insulating my indoor unit hooking to my duct work.would I have enough air flow to do this.Duct goes up the back of motor home with a y going to the left side. Appreciate any suggestions
The main concern i think is if the cassette blower has enough CFM to force air through the duct work. I have never used a cassette but like the ldea.
Insurance companies say that modifications will cancel policies.
They have lots of fine print, up to them to prove the modification caused the damage. Thanks for watching.
Why couldn’t you mount to the bumper?
It's a toyhauler it would interfere with the ramp.
Aussome install. Will be bring my Grand Design Momentum 398mr by this week for the same installation. Just send me the bill😭🤣. Thanks, safe travels and roads Brian and Cindy. "xtreambydesign with passion"
Thanks for watching. Don't know how I would feel cutting up a Grand Design.lol
@@SBranchCreek I have no problem. I just cut the frame on a Volvo 780 to make it our HDT Tow rig for the fifth wheel and hauler for the Smart Car
Hey sir what is that you are putting on the threads before connecting the lines? Awesome job!
It's called Nylog, its a refrigeration grade sealant. I used it on the copper flare mating surfaces to prevent leaks. Thanks for watching.
Amazing 👏!!! Are you in texas? lol 😆 need that for my rv 2.
Thanks for watching, we are in North Carolina. Hope to make it out to Texas one day.
Where did you buy the flexible hoses?
www.supplyhouse.com/Flexible-Refrigerant-Line-Sets-21212000 . Thanks for watching
Holy Shit Brilliant
Thanks for watching
Thanks for sharing. Which flexible refrigerant lines did you use? Are these flexible connectors to rigid copper lines?
These are flexible lines that are flared and connected to the hard lines that come with the unit. The ends of the flex line are secured to the frame so that the connections or hard lines don't move or flex when moving the unit. Thanks for watching.
www.ecomfort.com/cooling/mini-split-flexible-connectors.html
@@SBranchCreek Thanks. So, you had to flare a female end and soldered on a male unit on the opposite end to make the flex line a full extension line?
BTW, I just bought the same LG mini split and planning to install it under my van flat in place of spare tire. I didn't read anywhere why it can't be installed flat...
@@e3ucxp if you install it flat the oil won't return to the compressor and rhe compressor will burn up.

what size mini spit ? where you order the unit ?
Each unit is a 115volt 12k. I bought them from www.ecomfort.com/LG-LS120HXV2/p99989.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIxu3M3s268wIVh4FaBR2_RwcSEAQYAiABEgK0afD_BwE
can you tell me where you purchased the braided AC lines?
I got them from Ecomfort.
www.ecomfort.com/cooling/mini-split-flexible-connectors.html
awesome, thank you. I have one minisplit on my bumper and wanted to put another up front. These lines will work, but all are backordered
Haven't had any problems, the mud flaps keep anything from damaging the units. We have been very happy with them.
Any concerns going over hills and such?
No the leveling jacks are closer to the ground and should make contact first. On a recent trip I scraped the rear beam on asphalt and the units were fine.
@@SBranchCreek what is the height of your unit? Sorry, your video inspired me, I’m halfway done, just having last second concerns!
@taylordewar8606 the outdoor unit is 19-1/2" tall
Amp draw when not in jet mode?
I have seen a low of 5-6 amps
Great job. Was curious what sliders you used. And where you got them.

What model lg mini slits did you buy?
www.ecomfort.com/LG-LS120HXV2/p99989.html
What made you choose LG?
The size of the outdoor unit. I needed the depth to be as small as possible, and at the time, LG was the well known brand that come close to that measurement. Thanks for watching.
