A nice thing would be to have a list of plants that you can buy from the big box stores. Whenever I go into those stores, I usually just walk out. I'd love to have an all native NJ plant garden but I just don't remember or know what to look for.
I'd like it if these box stores had some indicator to these plants so I would know that I could buy it as well. Maybe a sticker saying "NJ Native".

Thanks for commenting Jennifer. Native plants are best purchased at local nurseries and those who specialize in native plants. Visit the website of the Native Plant Society of NJ for sources.

@@NativePlantChannel i've tried that but it's difficult. A lot of these places are a bit further so I can't just swing by after work. I'd much prefer ordering online and getting a shipment to my home but they are so small that they don't offer that. At this point, I've become a little less enthused about the native plants because it's simply too much work. I have milkweed. I bought a coneflower package that I'll plant next year. That's it.
The closest nursery that I could reach was about an hour away. I don't have that kind of time.
Thanks. I've given up. I'll stick to my tried and true big box plants.

We have a lot of boneset that blooms in late summer. It tends to draw the greatest variety of pollinators and other insects.

Hi Bill, thanks for commenting! Yes, boneset is very attractive to pollinators.

Do all these plants work in all of Nj? And also which of these would work in a rain garden?

Is the Diervilla lonicera planted in full or partial sun? Are we looking at just one of them?

This video would be improved if there were no zooming in and out, instead edit and cut between shots. Also motion panning is jerky and using a gimbal would be a better option. It’s hard to appreciate the plants because you’re framed most of it with close ups. Long shots would be helpful in understanding the overall look.

Thank you for taking the time to comment! Yes, if every gardener focused on adding a few native plants to their garden we would improve habitat for our butterflies, bees and birds!

In New Jersey, Toadshade in Frenchtown and Wild Ridge in Alpha are both good sources for native plants, primarily through mail order. Toadshade has dates at farmer's markets and Wild Ridge has curbside pickup.
