This Qawali is lit ... its part of South Asian culture specially in India and Pakistan 🇵🇰 with modern touch is what keeps the new generation hooked to the roots ... looking forward for some more kool reactions
Yes that female artist has a really unique voice. Her full name is Qurat ul Ain Baloch. Her short name is more famous named QB. You can also search her songs with this short name. This particular style is called Qawali style which is really popular in sub continent (India & Pakistan). Qawali was popular in it's traditional style till legendary singers like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (late) and his nephew Rahat Fateh Ali Khan mixed Western instruments with Eastern and formed and produced some really mind blowing stuff. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has also performed in many seasons of coke studio as well previously. But this time i shall request you kindly react to "Muaziz Saarif" which is an amazing rap performance by the siblings in video. Must watch this.
This was my first Pakistani song which I have ever heard, discovered last May and now I’ve completely addicted to Pakistani music, drama, songs🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 Yes that brass part is the main reason I got goosebumps🥰🥰🥰 you should watch the making of this song. The idea making was good to see😎 Love from Malaysia❤️
Jim, your ready enthusiasm for a musical tradition I've grown to love (as a Westerner) fairly doubles my pleasure in it! If you read all the comments below you'll get a very good headstart in understanding that tradition, hundreds of years old. IMHO virtually all your reactions/remarks regarding Thagyan are spot on, kudos! I believe you'd really enjoy reading up on subjects like Qawali, Sufism or Sufi music, Ghazzal poetry, musical instruments of South Asia.
Thagyan was probably my favourite of this season but the subtitles always make me laugh. They've tried to get them to rhyme but don't quite reflect the lyrics
Actually these translations are not accurate there are some words in Urdu which can’t be translated exactly into any other language because they are abstract words which have cultural significance. For outsiders they are just normal words
Coke Studio has a decade long tradition of producing awesome live studio music. Previous 13 seasons also exhibited a fusion of western instruments with local/traditional music and gave us some unforgettable songs by legendary musicians. However Season14 has taken it up a notch; More techno/western music in S14 songs plus way more complex production giving you a feel of a music video sometimes that is very difficult to achieve in a Live music session. Do check out songs "Tu Jhoom", "Mehram", "Kana Yari", "Pasoori" and other Season 14 songs. All season 14 songs also have their own BTS videos (named Magical journey) which also have subtitles; You must watch them, whether or not you react to it, I am sure that as a music over you will love all these behind the scene videos.
The joy in your voice hearing good music is everything Thank your for reacting and helping Pakistani music to reach wide audience Here are some suggestions from "nescafe basement pakistan" Sweet child of mine (cover) Love me again (cover)
You should check out the behind the scenes called The Magical Journey of each song and you get info about a lot of local instruments, the work and thoughts producers and artists put in behind each song. Bts video has eng subs too. More coke studio
I am just amazed by how you say stuff so fast and so smoothly, you are a natural reviewer. Appreciate you enjoying the song. i also loved the brass. QB is one of my favorite female artist. I think you should give Tu Jhoom, Peeche Hutt, and Kana Yaari a listen.
As a Pakistani-American, I love your pov on this. Quratulain Baloch (QB) is one of the top female vocalists, and does Punjabi songs beautifully. Her voice is earthy and suites her folklore kinda singing. Zaina and Zohaib are the dynamic duo brothers, serenading us with Qawali like vocals. Their voice almost resembles and take us back to Nusrat Fateh’s era(90s), and the nostalgic appeal with new music of Coke Studio produced and directed by Zulfi really creates magic.
In the culture of Punjab it is called "Boli". In which usually boys and girls tease each other through musical verses. They mix it with Qawali and some fusion
Thagyan, featuring Zain Zohaib and Quratulain Balouch. The song is as groovy as they come, with a great vocal melody and catchy lyrics. It appears to be a return to what Coke Studio used to be, with a twist. A collaboration between Zohaib Ali, Zain Ali, Quratulain Balouch, and Asim Raza on lyrics and music, with arrangements by Action Zain & Xulfi. Mixed by Xulfi. Pakistani performer and songwriter Quratulain Balouch is well-known. On March 4, 1948, she was born. Humsafar Girl (QB) is the moniker of Pakistani artist Quratulain Balouch. She graduated from George Mason University in Washington, DC, with a bachelor’s degree in IT basics and multimedia. With no formal training and without a musical base, QB has some remarkable voices. In particular, she is inspired by Sufi performers such as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Reshma, and Muhammad Juman.

While QB is an amazing singer, in my humble opinion, this qawwali was dominated by Zain and Zohaib and their group. It doesn't mean QB didn't perform well. She absolutely did but Zain and Zohaib's vocals were spellbindingly gorgeous. Their vocal range is unbelievable. They are trained qawwals so they truly excel at this genre of music.
Jim: it's pronounced "Zan Zo-hay-b" and "Ba-low-ch". This is a more traditional song I believe mainly in Punjabi language with the typical subject matter of love and its complications. Same there as here :).

So, Pakistan has diverse ethnic groups in it like many other countries in the world. Our main big ethnic groups are Punjabis, Pashtuns, Balochis, Sindhis, Kashmiris, and Urdu speaking people. Talking about unexpected western instruments making appearances, wait til you see the Appalachian dulcimer making an appearance in Tu Jhoom of season 14
You should go for "Tum Naraz Ho" by Sajjad Ali season 7, "Kaho aik din" by Ahmed Jahanzaib, "Aaqa" by ali sethi and abida parveen, "Khamaj" and "Ankhon k sagar" by shafgat amanat ali and "Bewajah" by Nabeel shaukat ali Please please react on these songs

Jim, if you liked the female artiste, QB, then also please at some point check out SAB JAG SOYE from season 9 of Coke Studio. She performs a duet with another talented singer/song writer/musician and from my understanding that song suits her vocal style. Also, as you uncover the gems from season 14, may I suggest you save the best for last, TU JHOOM.

Singers who only sings Qawali are called QAWALS . Like your voice sounds like a radio host. Also, liked your intro & reaction. Noticed that Coke Studio romantic songs a.) Have incorrect English translation b.) It's mostly about misunderstanding/ miscommunication between the two genders.
How about trying to copy the names and putting it in google translate page and using the sound icon to check the pronunciation. It may not be absolutely correct but it will be close. Try it, it just might help you. The bongo drum you mentioned is called Tabla, a traditional Indian percussion. Also I recommend you check out "Channa". It's an older Coke Studio song, absolutely gorgeous song and very underrated. This particular track incorporates musical instruments from every continent of the world. 😆 This girl is Quratulain Balouch, lovingly called QB.
