The Servant Song (Pentecost 2020)

We prayed for our quarantine to end, as Lent bloomed into Easter. And yet the Philippines continues to be in the world’s longest lockdown. We are still trapped and afraid.
So today, we remember that even after witnessing Christ’s resurrection, Mary and the apostles were still scared. Pentecost finds them holed up in the upper room. It is there that the Holy Spirit touched them, to transform them into a Church, called to be the presence of Jesus in a sick and broken world.
We must still take precautions when we go out, and it will be a long time before our whole choirs sing together in person.
But as we celebrate the birthday of our Church, let us breathe in the Spirit, and be brave. Let us come alive, and sing to the world, through all the new ways and languages we are learning in this quarantine.
"Will you let me be your servant? Let me be as Christ to you."
