Secret Santa surprises restaurant cook who has walked to work every day for the past 5 years

- The EastIdahoNews.com team is busy helping a local man gift $500,000 this holiday season! Secret Santa is a real person who wants to remain anonymous and wants to help as many people as he can.
We will be surprising deserving people and families every day from now until Christmas with gifts unique to their circumstances.
Cameron Horwith grew up in a poor household with his mother who could not work due to chronic health problems. He helped take care of her and after graduating high school, Cameron went to work as a dishwasher at MacKenzie River Pizza.
He was there when the restaurant opened over five years ago and worked his way up from dishwasher to busboy and now to cook.
Cameron lives alone in a basement rental apartment and walks a mile to work every day regardless of the weather. He is never late and will do whatever his supervisors ask. He has been trying to save money to buy a car but has not yet been able to afford one.
Cameron's mother has been in a nursing home for the past two years and recently passed away. Despite the hardship, he has continued to work and do his best every day.
Secret Santa thought that Cameron could deserve an early Christmas gift and asked the East Idaho News elves to go visit him at work on a recent evening. Watch what happened when we showed up!

This is my younger brother. He was completely shocked and so grateful. I can tell that he was even holding back tears at a certain point. He is not developmentally disabled by any means neither am I but we both have a difficult time physically expressing emotion. This totally made his Christmas season. Losing our mother has been the hardest thing both of us have ever had to go through.

Jay thanks for the comment. Everyone is commenting like he didn’t have a big reaction cause he was so surprised or so in shock. But people don’t realize that sometimes people just don’t show emotion cause they’ve been threw a lot of crap that’s just how they learned to be. To me it seems like he’s been threw a lot and maybe doesn’t have a lot of self confidence and that’s why he doesn’t display emotion like people expect you to. Maybe he was bullied at some point in his life. Looks like an awesome guy to me. Wish him the best.

I thought the same thing. At first I questioned “why does he not look excited?” Or I thought “that’s probably not what they expected”. Poor guy, he's been through so much. He's had little to no time to process or grieve the loss of his mom and no doubt he feels like everything he's ever known and loved has been taken from him. So when this comes along he really doesn't know how to feel. I know that feeling all to well. May, God bless him and bring joy back into his life!

Work Ethic: A belief in work as a moral good: a set of values centered on the importance of doing work & reflected especially in a desire or determination to work hard.
And you can also say success is in the eye of the beholder. Meaning who are you to determine that he isn't successful, because clearly his concise choices have made him successful, no matter what what kind of job he has. Merry Christmas!

Being a mom myself, I've had to go through the hurt of losing my son on Mother's day, and my dad on Christmas eve 3 years ago. Try to think about all the good times you had together. Some days will be harder than others, but she wouldn't want you to be depressed.She's not gone, she's just at rest. Her spirit will always be within you. Do right in life, pray, and you will definitely see her again. I pray for your heart to heal. Your mom is watching over you, make her proud.

Oh my God that was heartbreaking. He was obviously deeply grieving and just barely holding on. He probably needed all those secret Santa gifts but I don't think it even registered with him. Almost a year later now, I hope he is doing better and has some emotional support. God I would have wanted to just hug him.
