I last went to Hawaii in 2019 while they were renovating the terminal. I think our family had arrived when the gates had just been renumbered. I agree with my fellow commenters that it is a totally different airport from then, definitely a pre-9/11 feel to it. However, I am going to miss the old 1980s/1990s charm that the old HNL had. It was one of the last relics of a by-gone era. You can probably still find it at other airports on the surrounding Hawaiian Islands

This is one of the most beautiful airports and has a outdoor concourse and the weather was beautiful in October i can’t wait to go back out to HNL

Yes! And the bathrooms have been renovated recently which were very much needed!

The welcome signs are usually above the escalators to baggage claim.
What a tired and dingy airport that was in 2006 . Glad to see the improvements .
HNL definitely needs more improvements but they're working on it. They've renovated many of the bathrooms which is a major plus!
