You are, by far, the most transparent content creator I’ve come across. It’s extremely refreshing- you’re honesty and realness make you my fave, and I can totally appreciate your moral compass.. the fashion is an added bonus!

From what it sounds, you are having a lot of internal conflict regarding the ethics around being an influencer and consumerism. here are my suggestions:
-shift more towards promoting sustainable brands and small businesses. this way, viewers will be encouraged to spend money on brands that are actually doing the environment well while also supporting business owners' livelihoods. I think this will help to decrease the guilt of telling people to buy things because it will have more benefits.
-focus more on how you're helping your viewers by being honest about the imperfections of the job! give yourself more credit where credit is due.
-talk more about mental health awareness!

tip for showing your family: maybe pick certain days of the week that you'll show them on your stories! that way it could even turn into like a family friday thing so that people know to expect it on certain day(s) and so that you can also set your boundary of when your family sweeps into your work life. and then that will also help you learn to be present/make memories on days when the camera is off :) love you viv. you've got this!

I am by no means a content creator, but I used to work full time in influencer marketing on the brand side and I completely understand where you're coming from. When your job is tied to social media, your career, online persona, and self worth all become very dependent on each other. I found it not sustainable and healthy for me personally, so I give you a lot of credit for being so vulnerable, and pushing through. Working in the industry I experienced first hand how the traveling, events, etc. look pretty on social media to friends, family and colleagues - everyone thinks you're "living your best life" but your reality could be very different behind the screen. Your feelings are very real and valid 💛

just in case nobody's said it to you recently, i'm proud of you, viv. i'm proud of you for having these realizations and awareness, and acknowledging that there are changes you want to make for *you*. it's okay that you don't have the answers right now, because you're currently taking steps in the right direction. i hope today you feel a bit more grounded and clear, and if you don't, tomorrow's a new day!

  • @Monakromedesigns

Your honesty/vulnerability is so refreshing from your viewers' perspective and I hope it's refreshing for you too, I'm sending such a big hug your way! Consumerism is tough as it is and I'm sure it's even harder for you given your career...since you talked about how getting the perspectives of others is helpful I figured I'd chime in. What if, instead of showing people things to buy, you focus on what they already have? Maybe...how you have your closet set up to create an easy outfit, how you organize your shoes/drawers/bags/etc. As far as being present goes, boy do I feel ya there. I absolutely adore seeing your family but just remember that your job doesn't require that you show us that part of your world. When I'm having a hard time being present I try the five senses practice (5 things you see, 4 things you hear, 3 things you can smell, 2 things you can feel, 1 thing you can taste). I find that this practice can be pretty grounding and it helps me be where I am and gets me a little less out of my head.

Viviane, thank you so much for being so transparent with your feelings and sharing with us! You're definitely not alone with your struggle. Earlier this year, I started sharing a lot of beauty and fashion content, but at some point, really started questioning why I was sharing. I felt very caught up in the Instagram machine, where people are encouraged to post pretty photos, sell things, push consumerism, while followers blindly follow and buy. It felt especially wrong in a year, like you said, where saving should be encouraged and focus should be put on non-material things. I think the self-realization you're having and questioning the ethics of posting are things that not many people on the platform are thinking about. If anything, it really sets you apart from other content creators.
You also bring up feeling unmotivated to post. What you may also be experiencing is burnout. You stated content creation as your job and feel obligated to show up every day. However, traditional office jobs have weekends, holidays, vacation days, sick days--built in times for people to take a mental break. It's truly ok to need time off from your job, however long it may be. Your mental health should always be prioritized!

First off thank you for being so open and honest. You are nothing but real and authentic and I appreciate that so much. Have all been there for sure. I have felt that “rut” feeling quite often. I’m 27 back in school for nursing and living at home. I am so grateful for my family and having their support but it’s not easy. I dream of being like other people living on my own, creating my own life, being able to support myself, etc but that’s not my reality. I get so consumed with social media and what other are doing in their lives that I let my own pass me by. I’ve been trying to be more in the present with myself because I deserve that. I tell myself everyday that I am making strides to my ultimate goal and picture myself achieving all that I want in life. Listening to Jay Shetty’s Think Like a Monk book on the way to school and on walks has really helped me. I just wanted to let you know that we are always here for you and any feelings you do have are valid and real so don’t ever feel like your feelings are not as bad as anyone else’s. ♥️

My favorite content creator, thank you so much for being so transparent with us! You're not alone and your feelings are normal because what you're thinking is so morally significant. I think you're doing an amazing job but everyone needs a break! Give yourself some boundaries and show what you can without overstepping those boundaries. Start with something like 2 days off per week, where you give yourself family and personal time. Pray for patience, you got this beautiful! Sending my love

thank you for being real. i feel the exact same way, but always remember YOU ARE ENOUGH. practicing being present is so important right now, i have had that struggle with always trying to capture memories. definitely trying to live with intention but also, it’s OKAY to take lots of pictures.. i love looking back at all the pictures and memories, but i stopped posting them i keep them to myself and print them out.. i deleted all my social media and it’s really helped with that comparison mindset. i know you can’t do that, but maybe set app limits so you can make time for yourself everyday because that’s sooo important. you are doing great, it’s normal to have those struggles, thank you so much for showing this real side of you! i’m a new subscriber and love to see your content!💖💖💖

I think as humans we put so much pressure on ourselves and hold ourselves to such unrealistic expectations at times. It's okay not to push out good quality content every day if that's how you feel. Sometimes all we need is to take a step back to feel inspired again and get creative again. You're doing so well, you're authentic, inspiring and totally killing this social media game! wishing you love and a peace of mind always

hi viv, just wanted to leave a comment and let you know that your feelings are valid and I for one am really happy that you chose to mention it and work through it via social media rather than kind of disappearing (which you're totally allowed to do too). your transparency on social media is actually such a good thing and I understand the consumerism side is definitely a lot for just one person to handle so I think if you need to take a break and just wait till the funk passes, by all means do it!!! you'll come back when you're ready and know that you got out of bed that day for YOURSELF only, not for social media. anyways hope that wasn't too boring to read haha I hope you're feeling better :)

I really appreciate you sharing all these thoughts. I think many of us are feeling in a rut and conflicted, especially this year. I also really appreciate your honesty with how you feel about constantly pushing sales and products. As a consumer, it can be hard to resist when influencers are posting such great sales, etc. But at the end of the day, life is about more than just buying more “stuff”! Especially in times like these. Please take whatever time you need for yourself, it can be sooo easy to burn out, and everyone needs to have a break sometimes. Love you!💕

I’ve been in a similar spot.. this life is hard and this year has brought us all to a breaking point. I used to really fear making memories before losing someone close.. then after it happened, I realized the best + sweetest memories are the ones where nothing big or exciting is happening. It’s morning breakfast with your family and going shopping with that person you love (probably the memories I miss the most). Journaling, time, and meditation has helped me to see that. But I still struggle. We are all human. Thanks for being so authentic and open- so needed on here. Sending love. 💛

Hi Viv, I absolutely love your content, all your beautiful outfits, product recommendations, and especially those inspirational morning walks. You've literally been the only thing to get me out of my house some days, and I really appreciate that. Thank you for sharing what you are going through, I've just recently moved back home from college because of covid, so I'm doing online school, while also working from home so I can totally relate to some of your struggles. Ever since you have brought up your attention to being present in moments a while ago on your Instagram, you have made me become more self-aware and grateful for my surroundings. I've really been trying to take more time for myself, time with my mom, and my dogs, and less time on my phone. Being inside can be draining and unmotivating, but it can also be something beautiful that we need to value and not take for granted. I don't know that I'll ever be able to spend this much time with those closest to me after the pandemic, and I have really been trying to remind myself of that when I feel down. Again, thank you so much for your honesty. Instagram can be a place where I feel really bad about myself, but you always seem to be a light on the app. Thank you!
p.s. I've been really wanting to try Kopari so my insta is rosalynnededmon if I happen to win the giveaway!

Hiiii Viv!!! I’m also getting through an anxious phase and I’m still trying to figure it out. Today my yoga teacher told me to not make any decisions this year. It has been a weird year and the atmosphere is full of uncertainty which make everything grey. I don’t know if what I gonna say is going to be any helpful but here it goes: from my point of view, beside your work (from social media) you are still and a young woman who happens to live in this amazing Era of technology and we have to get its benefits. Saying this, I think that the fun part of being a master in sharing content (your work) is to share the things that really make you happy as a person (eg: you family, your thoughts, etc). Life is a balance, accepting the lows leads us to enjoy better the highs 😉

Hey Viv! I wonder if it would help to intentionally establish what you will share each week, and force yourself to put the phone down at other times. Such as, "Monday I will share my morning routine and walk, then that's it for Instagram stories. Tuesday I will vlog the Bachelorette. Wednesday I will share some products from 11 a.m. - noon. Thursday I will share myself doing a holiday activity." Then refuse to let yourself share insta-stories or posts at other times, even if something "insta-worthy" pops up! (Or schedule posts!) And as for replying to things, maybe you could set aside an established time each day, like 1-2 p.m., to reply to messages and comments, then that's it until tomorrow. It helps me to set a timer on my phone for an hour and work productively until it goes off, with the promise that I am truly "done" with that task when the timer goes off.
Another thing that has helped me (I am also drowning in work... first year teacher during a pandemic) is to try to re-frame my mindset at the end of the day. Instead of feeling guilty and anxious about everything I didn't accomplish that day, I try to be grateful and proud of myself for all the things I DID get done. A small shift in perspective, but it can be challenging as well as very rewarding!

thank you for opening up & being so vulnerable! ❤️ from a non-influencer perspective, I’ve always made it a point to put my phone away from me whenever I hang out with friends or family & always when my family sits down for dinner. I’ll only bring it out if I want to show someone something that made me think of them or if I want to take some pictures. finding the work/life balance will take some time because balance is different for every person. but I had the idea while watching this that it might be helpful for you to snap pics, content, vids, etc. in the moment, but delay the posting or sharing. taking a pic can be quick & easy, but crafting a perfect post or editing is what eats up time. and as someone who consumes your content, I’ll never hold you to an expectation of posting all the time, in real-time, or sharing every detail. in terms of being present and making memories, 3 things have helped me immensely and esp since the pandemic. 1, continually muting insta stories/unfollowing people. 2, cleaning out virtual clutter like emails, texts, calls, safari history, bookmarks, and even Spotify playlists or Pinterest boards (gives me the same feeling as cleaning my room) - it allows you to let go and feel like there’s less to keep up with. and 3, my best memories revolve around all my senses being involved, whether it’s blasting music and singing and dancing, eating a new food, or acknowledging surroundings visually! I think memories that stick are the non-everyday things and bringing even the smallest amount of novelty to the mundane makes all the difference. sending all my love! @camrynrm

Viv, I can't express the importance of this video. The holidays are soo often masked with happiness (they can be/ are happy too!!) when most individuals really struggle through the holidays. Thank you for sharing with the entire internet where you're at! It is both intimidating and scary to be vulnerable on the internet. However, I think it is videos like this, and your family involvement which makes you stand out among influencers -- you're authentic and have been since the beginning. Anyway, I love the part of this video where you say that what you're going through may seem small to others, but its still valid. Too often I hear others disclose about their challenges and then end their "emotional dislodge" with "but at least I can still eat, or at least I have a mom, etc". It is beyond important that we listen to, feel, and acknowledge that our challenges are struggles are valid, no matter how they compare to others.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for sharing!! You are so appreciated.

It’s been a tough year for sure. I lost my sister last year to cancer but just because this bad thing happened to me, it doesn’t diminish other’s struggles. All of our feelings are valid and nothing is linear. Keep your head up, you’re doing great 💕

Hi Viviane! I want to say that you are very brave for even posting these struggles because although I am a viewer, I totally relate to wanting to be present and negative self talk and other things. I would recommend journaling and MEDITATION!! Meditating helps so much with being present, with dealing with thought process and creativity. It’s a skill that you can do everyday and gets better each time.
About the sales and outfit inspiration you do... could I request for you to start doing thrifted hauls and inspirations? It’s better for the environment and is affordable!
Moving your body is always helpful too! Walking, running, yoga.. all that.
And if I can recommend an INCREDIBLE podcast, The Self Love Fix. It’s fantastic!
I hope you feel better :)

Agreed that living at home can be the pits at times (and for myself, doing a graduate program online on top of it all). I’m glad to see someone in the position you’re in taking time to express the importance of mental health & self care & self love & self appreciation.

Thanks so much for uploading this and being so honest with us !! I think we’ve all been feeling a little like this lately with the current situation (covid) and also the change in the weather making us stay stuck inside 😔I understand where you’re coming from for the videos , but don’t feel like you’re forcing us to buy anything, we absolutely love your videos and if we buy things it’s because we love your style !! Yes I’ve been guilty of buying many of the clothes you recommended but I feel so good in those pieces and received compliments about them 💗 Also, we love how you show your family, but yes it is super important to personally take in those moments and fully enjoy them. I think if you’re feeling that way, maybe try to set times during the day where you don’t look at your phone or that you don’t pick up the camera 😊 Maybe also show more of you, tips, tricks etc if you feel like you are making too many fashion or family videos . Just know I’ll be watching anything you put out because honestly I feel like I can relate to you a lot and they make me so happy ✨ @cathcampanelli

  • @Elinevandenabeele

I really enjoyed watching this video, because you are being so honest and I can see that it already helps you talking about all this. One thing is for sure and that is that you do not have to say sorry for not being as present or motivated as usual. Take your time and you do you. I’m actually part of the people that had a really rough year, but we go on? Don’t we? All of the things you mention feel so relatable tho. I barely come out of the house and when I do I have anxiety on what to wear. Also, I also reaaaaaaally want to shop online (because what else can I do) but I have nowhere to go so that would (in my case) feel like a waste of money. It’s a struggle, but you don’t have to feel bad about it. We are still all protagonists in our own story. We still decide for ourselves what we can do and what we can’t do.
When you mentioned the point “I don’t know when was the last time I created a memory without capturing it on my phone”. I know how you feel and I’m not even a youtuber/influencer. We have become so phone-dependent and it is not your fault. In your case, I think that you have become sort of a movie maker and you just love what you do. Later you will be able to look back at all that video footage that you made and you will really enjoy watching it. It is true that from time to time we all need some social media detox, but don’t feel bad about what you did capture. You love your family, friends, job… and we notice that. It is not because you captured it that it will not become a memory.
I just wanted to say that, in the end of the video you are really motivating us to not feel bad but I want to say the same thing to you. You are an inspiration to many of us and you should not doubt that. Take your time, enjoy the holiday season and just be you. Lots of love X
Sidenote: when I was watching this video my mother passed by and asked me if I was in a video call with you 😂😂

Viv, you’re so real and down-to-earth and always have been, and I absolutely love that about you! I completely relate with everything that you’ve been feeling, which are all totally valid. I’m not a blogger but I also live at home with my parents and struggle with that, being present, and the balance between living life making real memories vs sharing on social media. My heart and prayers go out to you and your adorable family 💗 I’m so sorry about your sweet grandma, and that you have been going through all of this. I have faith that you will make it through and grow stronger from what you’re experiencing. You are a beautiful soul inside and out. I genuinely feel your authenticity, your beautiful heart, and the impact you’re making regardless of the season you’re in or feelings you are having - simply by being yourself. Your Instagram stories are my fav and literally the highlight of my day - it always feels like listening to one of my best friends, and I know so many people can agree. i totally understand where are you coming from. it’s very overwhelming to be an influencer/working with social media, and to be honest, you don’t need to post everything you do. i know the feeling like “oh i want to post this” but “ah i think i should live the moment” it’s a limbo hard to manage. my advice is just what you want to do, everything in life is a balance & working with social media just makes you compare yourself TOO much all the time. So maybe, each day get time for yourself, for your family and things off camera. Even tho it’s your job, don’t let your job consume your TIME. Time is the most important thing we have, don’t let the pressure of the world take that from you.
    I’ll be praying for you!!

Thank you for your transparency. 2020 has been a tough year for all of us and not easy to acclimate to the changes so you’re not the only one!
As far as capturing memories with your family or being more present, you don’t have to share those memories with us. Those are your memories to hold on to. You’ll find a good balance, I promise. You’ll find it as you go along and continue your endeavors. And you’re right, we can’t compare ourselves with the rest of the world and social media. Celebrate your accomplishments!
