I'm old enough to remember when the "Hip-Hop Task Force" or "Hip-Hop Police" started coming into play. Right into the mid to late 90's but primarily after the deaths of Biggie and Pac and even going into Snoop's trial. Law enforcement had a bevy of profiles aimed at hip-hop artists during that time that the artists themselves even spoke about including one of Prodigy's recent interviews before his death 🙏🏾🕊️ (watch the beginning of Agallah The Don's "What Diddy Gone Do"). If you really sit back and look at the cases of Bobby Shmurda, Snitchnine (who recently got arrested again), Young Thug, Lil' Durk, and even Diddy's situation there IS a connection between social media, surveillance cameras, and even the lyrics used against an artist to bring them down. I stopped doing Facebook, IG, X, and all that other shit back in 2008 because I saw how comfortable everyone was posting random shit about themselves while not being mindful and aware that someone was always watching or listening and for me my privacy is my sanity. While I do believe that social media has its benefits, I've seen more bad come from it than the good. Everybody wants to be seen and heard nowadays or they don't pay attention to the fact that they are (case in point Diddy beating Cassie). Somewhere along the lines hip-hop moguls and artists became way too comfortable with what they say and how they move without understanding that a bigger presence was/is watching and listening to them. Not really into conspiracy but sometimes things just add up to be common sense. Social media, triangulation in cellphones after pay phones were obsolete, surveillance cameras set up, knowing what you put in your lyrics can be used against you in the court of law, and even the introduction of drill music. All this can't be a coincidence and the smarter hip-hop artists know this. When you get too comfortable with the money and the fame and you act like you can't be touched, that's when you gotta humble yourself to know that you can and will IF you ain't moving right to begin with.
