Make it into a single use disposable grenade, and you have something that wouldn't be horrendously broken. It'd even be a straight path buff when he finds one because he'd have a free grapple.
You'd basically let him become stronger than he was at launch, for as long as he has the disposable grapple

I played Octane, we just jump padded him into the middle of teams while I spammed grenades at them. It was a massacre
I have a nice concept , I'll paste it here too for ya, : It will be sick if they would add the grapple gun as an actual item but it will be so op it would come with a good "punishment" or smth, like, it would take up one weapon slot, or no matter which level backpack you got it would take half of your inventory and let's set the limit of each grapple to 10-15 uses, this means pathfinder would need a rework, maybe, like let's have the zipline be his normal ability instead of ultimate and let it charge it up twice like revenat's silencer, BUT it would take 55 seconds for each zip and I say distance shortened by twice is good enough, and we would have one of those jump towers, the tall balloon things as his ultimate but it would take as long as, I say bangalore's ult, none of this is accurate it's just my opinion I would love to hear suggestions and how to make it more balanced, anyways, so he would be able to place the Ballon anywhere in open space, it would also be shortened to half the original size, but would be perfect for Olympus with such area, let me know what you think abt this :DD

The thing is, the woman Pathfinder in the archives/his creator made the message to Pathfinder in 2650 something (can't really read it properly) and I can only assume she died because of the self-destruct authorisation, so she can't be Wattsons mom 'cause Wattson is 22 which means she was born in 2711, many years after this woman made this message. I think a more accurate theory is that this is her grandmother though.

I think that Amelie is most likely Wattson's mom, plus they have a similar accent, and we know that Wattson was born in King's Canyons (or the Outlands), and so was Path. (Or atleast, Pathy woke up on the Outlands.)

I see tw ways to add graple as a item that can be looted:
1. Make it something that takes an item slot. Pretty balanced and doesn’t kill pathy since it’s a big drawback to sacrifice a weapon
2. Make it an item that doesn’t take a weapon slot, but only has 1-3 uses.

I think that if they were to make the grappling guns an item, it would have to come from an airdrop and would take up an item slot, or that it could be limited time event where pathfinder controls the apex games, similar to the revenant gamemode.
