Hello Jeff. We believe we know who you are referring to…and, if it is this same Installer from Illinois, he was dropped this past year for poor installation, service, and representation after we tried innumerable times to get him trained properly.
Thank you for the follow up. I saw that his company was removed from Bihler Tech's list of installers. Hopefully someone will be able to take over the service on all the units he has installed.
What company was it in Illinois?? Because we've had ridiculous issues w/ our sys. It's 2yrs old! Just want to mention we knew NOTHING about septic systems this was our 1st house w/ one and the new system had to be installed in front of our home according to the sellers & the company that installed it. Otherwise the well would have had to be moved. (I wish we would have kept the old one). After 9-10 months we had an awful smell coming from the tanks. We reported it to the company & even asked about charcoal filters after doing some research. They sent someone out to fix a fuse b/c now it was alarming & the employee proceeded to tell us these systems are known for their pumps going bad. So we asked well why not replace the pump while you're here?! He explained we're going to try & rule out the issue, ok sounds sensible to us. Then a couple weeks later we heard the alarm going off again but this time the smell was horrendous & we could clearly see sewage, the tank was saturated around the outside. We called the company to tell them what was going on and they were asking us questions one of which was to go into the basement because they were trying to blame the plumber and as soon as we were in the basement we saw water (sewage) coming into our foundation. At that point my husband took the lid off of the tank and the sewage was overfilling. We sent the company a video immediately. Finally, they decided to send someone out and he again replaced a fuse and said they needed to order a pump and they would be back tomorrow or the next day to suck all the sewage out. Which they did and then came back a few days later to replace the pump and it seemed to work for about 10 months. They also sent us a bill for over $5,000 for this after they just got paid over $20,000 not even a year prior to put in a new working system. After the 10 months of the pump working I came home and the alarm was going off again. I had a new septic company come who did a soil test, leak test and found a lot more problems. Even went to Will county about the issues and found out this system should have never been installed because of our soil. Now we have to pay this new company thousands of dollars to rewire, clean out the filters, replace alarms that were soaked inside the tank, etc. The new septic company explained to us we could keep doing this with the filters b/c these biobarrier systems w/ our soil are known to go bad and it could cost us thousands of dollars every couple years or replace it with a different system that would cost us between $10 to $12 thousand dollars!! This is absolutely absurd it's a NEW SYSTEM!! Nevertheless the cleaning of the filters (3 days ago) has worked, for now...
I think the particular company/guy hasn't been allowed to install this brand for quite a few years at this point so it probably wasn't him. He now has [yet again] another company name and hes importing a membrane system called Canpure from china. So if your system is Canpure then it might be him. But also the lawsuits that I mentioned in the video are real. Hes even been sneaking around my property because of this video.
I think your issue is with the installer not the manufacturer. You are not trained or educated enough about this specific technology to advise if it’s good or bad. I’m a service provider, not the bio barrier, and have been in the industry for 23 years. There is a time and place for its use and it provides very high quality treatment, above and beyond other aeration systems, but this system also requires a higher degree of maintenance. Poor installation, education, and maintenance by a installer/service provider can certainly have grave end results. Sounds like this specific installer is no longer allowed by the manufacturer to install these.
Change the membrane, read the user manual and it should do it without a problem. The BioBarrier Training power point is very informative when using the system. It's like any system, if it's not maintained it may break down, it works for everything.

Well what caused the membrane failures and has it been fixed???
