+Ginga Kitty I'm not an expert at digital art, but I improved my traditional drawings skills by like 1000% in under a year just by looking at things and paying close attention to why they look the way they do. I learned some basic rules about lighting, shading, colors, etc. then started looking at time lapse videos and payed attention at how they followed those rules and how they broke them, you must first learn the rules before you can break them. I looked at real life a lot too, I would try to imagine myself drawing things and shading them and even imagine myself making mistakes, every time I played video games or watched movies I payed close attention to everything and tried to imagine myself drawing it. I also experimented a lot with different techniques and had to teach myself for most of everything I know now. I took risks, I made mistakes, I would spend hours on things that ended up looking horrible, but I learned from my mistakes, and in the end it was all worth it. I went from only doing black and white to being able to draw with color pencils in a few months, I did weird things like stare at things to learn to draw them, like water puddles, still need to work on that...and people...it would be weird to stare at people to learn to draw them better so that's probably why I struggle with people now, I can copy photographs, but can't draw from imagination. davidtheartninja1345.deviantart.com/gallery/ This shows some of my art and you can notice the improvement, the most important thing is to really care about art, thats what will make you good at it.

Digital painting is meant to be efficient. It is born of necessity in this fast paced highly designed world we live in. Still, this takes some serious talent. I am a student, but I hope to be able to create works that look this good some day. I've found that learning traditional painting techniques carries over somewhat to creating digital paintings. I believe a fundamental understanding of art will always be necessary to creating successful artwork, even if it is done on the computer.

If you're wanting more control for something like drawing then I definitely recommend getting a graphics tablet. I have a Wacom and it's so much better than a mouse for something like this. When you use it you don't actually need to be looking down at it, as the pen moves over it the cursor moves to that postion, the size adjusts to the size of your screen.
Very, very well done. The detail exhibited in this piece- in Neytiri and as well as the background was amazing. I love her eyes, the coloring was brilliant. I do think there should have been a tiny bit more of a subtlety on the highlight of her face that fades to dark. But other than that, it was astounding.
I'd like to see what my hair looks like done in braids like Neytiri's hair. It would certainly make for something different than just a plain ponytail everyday. Oh and wonderful job with the painting - so realistic!
