    I live in Calgary and I can confirm they used store-bought traps because it would have been too many for such a small team to manufacture and they were being shot at "night" (a darkened sound stage) so you would never noticed the lack details. They could have made it all with CGI but I am so glad they did the amount of practical effects to match the previous two films.

    I noticed how the guy sort of went "Uhhhhh..." when Adam Savage asked him how he made so many.

    Kinda goes back to the original movie where they bought a lot of 1/18 toy cars from ToysRus for the marshmallow man scenes! 🙂

    when I saw it in theaters there was a shot that showed the inside of the trap door, and in my head I went "Hey that's a spirit trap!"

    I actually didn't notice in the movie since ya know they're buried, but when Adam Savage posted that video I knew instantly it was one of the Spirit or Walmart traps especially since at one point one of the companies sold out for a short period of time lol

    I've not seen Adam's video but it doesn't surprise me at all that they did this as it's by far the most efficient and cost effective way of getting the job done. And with them all buried in the movie no one (or very few) would probably know if it weren't for the behind the scenes footage.

    Hey for the sake of making a movie, they're cheap, they function, and it looks cool!

    I had no idea, so thanks for posting this. Now I know why I couldn't find Walmart and Spirit Halloween traps in Calgary that year. LOL! Also now I have an exact replica of a screen used prop!

    I did notice this and for real, who want to build like 200 Traps for the movie when you know that there is already toys that looks good ?

  • @GhostbustersFan77
    @GhostbustersFan77 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I heard a podcast interview with the head special effects guy and he confirmed that the traps used in that scene were indeed Spirit Halloween Traps. Which makes sense. Its easier and quicker to buy a hundred of these and mod them than it is to make a hundred from scratch.

    I actually brought this question up on a live stream on the Odin Makes channel when he had Ben Edie on his channel, and Ben DID confirm that yes they did buy the spirit traps for that climax battle on the dirt farmers' farm. so I thought that was cool of Ben to confirm that. also, you might need to change the batteries in your trap.

      Nice! I was going to, but I haven't touched this thing in a year or more.

      @@unfinishedstudios Like all battery operated toys, It's a good idea to take the batteries out when you store it to avoid leakage and corrosion. But this toy actually doesn't have a totally OFF mode. So unless you pull the batteries, it slowly drains them until they are totally dead.
      I'm in the Atlanta area. If you have trouble getting it working, I'd be happy to help you out. I've fixed and upgraded mine several times. We have the tools. We have the talent. You know the rest.

    • @paul_8472
      @paul_8472 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SmokeandLights the switch does have an off setting if you move the switch to the middle then the it's off entirely. Also yes removing the batteries when storing is important on these collector's items/toys. Unless you have a 4yr old that keeps getting it out of the closet.

  • @PeaceLoveAndGuns
    @PeaceLoveAndGuns 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I thought it was funny that they didn't mention it, too. I think it adds additional credibility to the toys and are effecient use of budget, so I'm not sure why they wouldn't take credit for how cool it turned out while simultaneously saying, "these are toys you can go buy at the store right now, sort of!"

  • @suddenlyjoey

    I noticed it, but I was unsure whether they’d used the Spirit Halloween, Hasbro, or Matty Collector traps.

  • @InsidetheBoothTV

    yes they did look like the toys, but they must have moded them a bit, and it worked amazingly :)

      Hey man. Haven't done much with them this year so far. I haven't driven them in a month or so because gas prices are getting so bad. I'm planning to do a video over the packs and build another one... but there's only so much time in the day.

  • @randomfilms8896
    @randomfilms8896 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yeah so about 1a, I thought that for the front grill bar you should look at specs from a 59 Cadillac and make a fiberglass bar to mount the strobe lights and if it’s hollow just run the wire through it. Also I’m making a go kart version of 1a and have a Haynes Ectomobile book and it shows all the specific details on Ecto 1 and 1a and equipment so if you don’t have that I would recommend it to you and any GB fan

    I think they used a bunch of spirit traps modded only because I feel like the opening of the traps were too quick compared to the walmart trap however I could be wrong on that

    My Spirit Halloween trap is not motorized and has no remote. I got it about 3 years ago. Is there a Spirit Halloween trap that is motorized?
    I think going with the toy prop is fine and is a testament to the quality and accuracy of the available toys now days.

  • @randomfilms8896

    Also if you wanted to make the tail fins look like a 59 use heavy duty molding clay and for the back use re enforced fiberglass so you can get the correct reverse light boxes

    They did in fact use Rubies/Spirit toys in the movie. When I pointed this out in a comment of the BTS of the film someone called me mentally challenged. Hope they see this video in their feed.

    probably a combo of the propmasters not wanting to say "we cut corners and just bought these traps and did next to nothing but still got paid for what the work would have taken" and the fact they don't want to advertise the item. Let's be honest while they work on a rudimentary level everyone has said the spirit halloween/wal mart toys are pretty junky.
