- Chandolin is one of the highest villages in Europe that is populated all year round. It is located in the Val d'Anniviers in the Canton of Valais. Chandolin offers amazing views of the surrounding Swiss Alps and has got a lot of sunshine hours in a year. Visitors and locals seek relaxation in this charming Swiss village that is located at almost 2000 meters above sea level.
Chandolin is located close to le Tsapé and Lac Noir. It is open for visitors year round. In summer Chandolin is a great spot to hike, in winter it is a popular ski resort for families.

When I lived in Sion, we would travel up to Chandolin and stop at a suspension bridge over the big valley d'Anniviers. One of my colleagues got married in the chapel at Chandolin ... so pretty.
Only 82 people live in Chandolin today. In 1821 the population was 136. In 1910 it was 204.
Why?
@@zainulabdin1720 I think there are less farmers today than in the past. There is more opportunity in the larger towns and cities for other jobs.

@@Katy-mu8mi It's an area where there are lots of concrete buildings covered with graffitis. It's quite ugly. But of course, the beautiful places, like those that we see on TH-cam, are amazing.

Living on the side of a mountain like this isn’t for everyone but to me it’s like heaven. I to live on the side of a mountain in WV with a waterfall and it’s beautiful when the rain water comes down the mountain over the waterfall. The sound of it is amazing….just a special way to live.
