Couldn't make mine work. It was very different from the Heathkit am radio I made in school in the 70s. That kit had a foam breadboard that you constructed the radio on then after it was working you then solder the parts on the circuit board. It's a pity Heathkit doesn't make the same kit today.

Enjoyed your video, brings back memories when I worked on aircraft navigation systems in the Air Force, 1970's. Now that i'm a bit older, not sure I could do that kind of circuit board work. I just had cataract surgery a year ago, my eyesight isn't the best.

The good news is there are so many inexpensive ready to go radios on the market today you can pretty much get whatever you want!

What is the highest frequency it tops out at? Would I get 1630? Been thinking of this for a long time and have a part 15 hobby station and broadcast on 1630.

Have several. Tentec®, Heath®, kanga kits®. And a lafettradkit®. Nothing better than back checking all parts then throwing the switch. . Oh forgot to include ed kits,® RadioShack® and Olson kits. De kv4li

I have a solar house. AC is at a premium. So I use a gas pen solder tool. To say when the sun shines good on a after noon. I work with a 50 watt inverter. And a 15 watt iron . On its own power supply. Kv4li

It’s a great radio to start with. If you want another option check out the four state qrp boys radio. It looks so cool.

Hi Josh, good video. A point though, I got my start soldering with the Pace micro electronic repair course taught industry wide, but in my case the Coast Guard. They needed board level techs, not just module replacement.
So, my point is for several reasons, appearances like a conformal coated epo-glass board, solder joints should appear as the original probably wave-soldered joints. I noticed you inserted the components in the board; soldered them, then clipped them. That would be a fail. (That was how I started out... failed at first)
It’s adjust the lead, clean ( used pencil erasers ), pre-tinned as necessary. (Not in your case for components, but for wire leads) insert component, bend wires SLIGHTLY, just enough to hold, then CLIP & flux the joint & lead slightly to facilitate fast and complete flows without excessive heat. (If heat will be a problem, clip the component side with a micro heat sink. This is an important step because when you solder, you will completely cover the leads, leaving NO clipped end, which over time can lead to cold solder or oxidized joints.
We would then clean with alcohol and Kim-wipes to avoid rosin/lint on the board, then re-conformal coat to leave a factory finish.
Have to admit I loved that course...😁

Tip I found handy. A emery board used on wire if holes seem small. Just a few seconds gets my part to fit easy. . Thanks for good show.

Hi Josh- So I watched your video and got the itch to build this kit. It's not my first kit. I have built Heathkit projects and a Ten-Tec 1254 Shortwave SSB receiver all with no problems and I am a Ham (KC3JS). But, after building the Tecsun radio and getting to the step of checking the three current test points, I quickly realized my $130 Fluke 115 Multimeter could only read down to 1mA. I thought since everything looked correct and test point C was reading 1mA, I would just join the solder bridges of the three test points and fire it up. Well, I can hear the audio amplifier kick on but no signals to be found. I double-checked every diode, capacitor direction as well as every resistor color code to verify that everything was in the correct place. I looked for any possible issue and my solder joints are good. No shorts. I am now ready to tear my heir out because it has all those extra resisters but with three possible resistors needing to be increased or decreased, I had no idea which one to mess with. I tried several clues or resistors playing with R1, R5 and R8. Just trying to hopefully hear some something from the speaker. I am at a total loss. I don't know if I should just give up and buy a new kit and try again or what. I am hoping you may have a suggestion for me. It seems that everyone else that built this kit had it work right off the bat. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.... Bruce

I found my problem. Turns out one of my bar antenna wires black and green were reversed. I could swear I checked everything. Well, now I have great signals and this radio is working 100% Love this radio.

Interesting how the A/C hum was persistent in this vid, done a while back, but I did watch it all the way through. I see that you have the same soldering habits now..... 73
