An important "tool" that often goes unmentioned in most finishing videos is the harsh, mobile, work light. Placing it at an angle right up next to where you're working will show you problem areas that will be noticeable to the homeowner's wife if you don't fix them.Thank you for this video.
Paul your economy of motion and speed is insane. You and Vancouver taught me how to drywall and I still love going back and rewatching videos just to learn more and more
Thanks for all the work it takes to provide this information to the folks that want it. I watch several videos when I need information and find valuable tid bits from most of them. I've attempted lots of things I wasn't sure I'd be successful doing but with help from different sources, I have been.
Now see, I wasn't going to buy one of these for fear of not being able to use it correctly. Now I gotta go out, and buy one because of you, LOL. Thank you, sir! I have a few rooms I have to do where the tape is sloughing off of the ceiling corners. Apparently the original builders left a half inch gap between the walls, and ceilings so now I have to prefill all that, then mud, and tape it. I already did the master bedroom, but the other two rooms need to be done too.
super helpful! Thank you! I haven't used a tool like this in many years and now i needed to know the correct way to use it. Paul, you explained not only how to use it but gave great insights as to where and how much pressure to apply, etc. Great Video, straight forward and to the point. Thanks again!
+buckbuck22 Thank you so much for the positive feedback on my video. People like you is what motivates me to keep making videos and helping people with their remodeling and repair projects! Thank you!✌🏻😎
I never knew that was how that worked, thank you so much for sharing. One more question and I hope it doesn't sound dumb, why are there two different sizes of corner tools? Is the smaller corner tool for a smaller space? Your video's have taught me so much and I have only watched two at this point, lol... but I am definitely going to watch more.
Learn something new every day 👏 we use that to wipe out the mud but I've never thought to do mud on the edges and then wipe again to get your first coat amazing😃
I see that you only taped a portion of the corner. Would you do it in sections like that " butting" up the other tape sections or was that just for the video?
Ur videos have been so helpful! thank you so much! question: I'm putting drywall on top on my old "wood panel" when I get around the window. how to I make the edges look nice and clean? should I use TAPE between the drywall and the window wood frame? please help!
Hey there Old Timer! Yes you can use the coner trowel for the inside corners while doing plaster work as well. What type of plastering project do have going on right now? Hope that helps, -Paul
Hello Paul, in a week I will be doing some interior wall plastering kitchen area as well over head ceiling repair from past semi water damaged areas the size of a basketball & no deeper than 2/16" deepI bought 25lb bag of plaster wall patch made by DAP & got a bottle of Elmer's concrete adhesive bond to use before applying the plaster,I also bought different types of trowels & I probably should get the corner trowel that you use in you're video to make things look nice I will be watching you're video couple times again to be sure I am using you're method of how to use the corner trowel, thank's much for the informative video!!.
Hey Paul I have a question? Does the tape have to be totally covered in the corners? I saw you just had a very light coat of mud on there? Thank you sir
If you need something quick and easy then I'd go for this. But if it's a new project and you're trying to go as perfect as possible then I'd go old school one at a time. I gotta get a section of my house ready for contractor installation so I'm using this method. It has it's benefits. But I prefer the old way.
Looks great, when you do it... my attempt was a flop, paper lifting, bubbling. Question, I used joint compound, a container already mixed. Is that the problem?
Sorry to hear that Jorge. It sounds like he might need to thin down your joint compound to a pancake batter consistency and also apply less pressure on the corner trowel. And yes the all-purpose joint compound is exactly what i use. that’s the best one to use for doing your corners. I hope this helps,-Paul
Paul, do you have a video that show taping corners right into the corner? I've had issues of the tape moving when I smooth that little bit from the corner out. Maybe I just had too much mud under the tape. Whatever the reason, it can be frustrating if you're not real experienced.
Yes, I do have a video that shows me doing a corner tape repair after wallpaper removal. th-cam.com/video/OuHazwZACJU/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps. let me know if you have any questions after watch that video. Take care, -PAUL
For all three of you, 1. You don't use mesh tape on corners 2. You always need tape on seams (between sheet) unless you want to have a nice crack along the whole thing within a few months, 3. Yes, you can 100% absolutely put your first coat of mud on after you bed the tape. You just can't put any other layers on till it's dry because, well, how do you build up another layer on wet mud? Lol
Yes, thin it down to about a pancake batter consistency. you want it pretty thin when you do your initial bed coat for the corner tape. Take care, -Paul
Hi Rob, great question. I would say a medium amount of pressure on the corner trowel when doing your initial pass over the paper drywall tape. Basically you just want to have enough pressure word the corner trowel can glide over the tape and embed the paper tape into the joint compound that you first applied before adding the tape. You'll get the feel for once you dig in. The most important tip is to start in the middle of the tape and work out in both directions so you don't get a crinkle. In the tape. Hope this helps, -Paul
I think I'm putting on too much mud and pressing too hard. The tape keeps bunching up on me even when starting in the center. I'll try a lighter touch with less mud. Thanks
I did notice in your video and others how thin the compound was. I think that was part of my problem also. I thinned some compound down this afternoon and took another shot at the rest of my corners. Everything came out great. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Great video Paul. I'm about to embark on this shortly on my son's music studio. I like your headmount camera approach. I've been using a tripod for my gopro but the headmount gives a much better look for instruction. I own the headmount and I only used it once. With my gopro I have a setup with a 200GB sdcard and a 5,000mAh battery so I can film straight for 8 hours but with the headmount I'll only get about 25 minutes - there aint no way that I'm wearing a battery too. I liked and subbed.
Thank you so much U Do It! Good luck on your son's music studio. I've done quite a bit of sound reduction projects over the years. As a matter a fact. I have a whole soundproofing project that I'm editing and making a series of videos right now that I'll be posting soon. Yeah my older version GoPro's battery started only going for 45 minutes before I replaced them. Now I have a newer version Gopro that will go for about four hours of straight videoing. Take care my friend! -Paul
U Do It Yes. Also the Green Glue sealant (different than the compound) is for doing the drywall seams and perimeter gaps before you do the drywall finishing. So using both of these Green Glue products really reduce noise quite a bit whether it is for a sound studio or noisy neighbors in a condominium or apartment building!

@@PaulPeck Do you have any other ideas? The website said they were out of stock and they didn't know, "when or if they would be back in stock." Hi Elena, Great question. It does take a little practice but with a little instruction like these videos on TH-cam. I think you can do it. The good thing is if you just try it on one corner and it is not coming out right. You can just pull the tape off and scrape off the joint compound and start over with a new piece of drywall tape and re-apply the joint compound until you get it right. Do you have some corner tape to repair? Feel free to ask any questions along the way. Take care,-Paul
I appreciate your video,BUT....the words that appear on the video are in the WORST POSSIBLE SPOT ! most times the words would appear directly where you were using the corner trowel and it really prevented to see how you actually hold and apply pressure with the tool.
Ahhhh. That corner tool is large enough to feather the edges. I have a couple 3" or 4" ones that are impossible to feather with. I couldn't figure out the special technique since I was taught to use a 6" knife to do each side of the corner individually.
i like this. I`m saying ´´no good man`` because i can clearly see the tape, thats not a good coat of mud. I think that you dont use this corner tool for more than 10 corners it is just a headache. I also use this tool in llittle reparations using 5 or 20 fast dry compound. i still think this tool is very hard to use comparing to the 4, 5 or 6 inch in each side of the corner, wich we can get better results . i am giving this a thumb up.

Dont mud over tape until the mud under the tape is dry
I'm no pro but have done some, I never mudded on top of tape after putting tape on either.
Right.. or stop using crap paper tape and go with Mesh tape and be done with all that BS....
I don't think you need tape unless it's a deep repair.

How much pressure do you apply to the corner tool on the first pass over the tape?
Hi Rob, great question. I would say a medium amount of pressure on the corner trowel when doing your initial pass over the paper drywall tape.
