    Going to be doing a lot more BTS stuff for you guys. This was shot with the Nikon Z6ii, 28mm 1.4E lens, Godox V860 with magmod grid at 1/32 power. Hope it helps! - Will & Sara

    Love stuff like this - interesting / motivating / helpful! I'm starting to see how wedding photography is such a cool blend of portrait & photojournalism, if that makes sense.
    The shots you posted the other day are gorgeous too 👏🏻

      @TheMonochromeMemoirs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Craig, and yeah weddings are a blend of a few different types of photography. It’s the most challenging I think because in all the things you have to be skilled at you have to do it in front of lots of people usually given very little time.. truly a challenge

    Great idea!
    What a lens too! I've never tried that light as I bought a couple of AD200s before they were released but I'm impressed.
    It made me smile to see you and your wife surfing that wave of excited energy in a wedding prep bedroom 😅. Do you always have someone else in filming?

    • @TheMonochromeMemoirs
      @TheMonochromeMemoirs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Man it’s so true that the key to all of this is having fun doing it. I love when we get a banger shot and it’s both of us who created it rather than just one of us 😁.. we never used to film us working but now have started to for BTS stuff for the channel.. I think it would help a lot of people to see complicate footage without any editing.. not only can they see how the shot was done but they can see how we talk and interact with the clients which is like 75% of the shot in itself

    That was an eye opener! 😮 I need to dig out my good old SB 900 and experiment with indirect flash again some time. Thank you for this! The result is remarkable!

    • @TheMonochromeMemoirs
      @TheMonochromeMemoirs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So happy it helped you see a different perspective 😁. The goal is definitely to motivate people

    • @jpdj2715
      @jpdj2715 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, great work. Note that the flash is fired "direct" here - directly at the subject. It seems to me that the flash angle was set to a rather narrow angle. Although at 1/32 power the flash is so strong that correct exposure for the flash removes the ambient light entirely. So, if you want to recreate this style, then start with a "black shot" (without flash) at the exposure setting as if you use a flash. So if you were to shoot at 1/200 sec, ISO 100, and f/8 then fire that without flash. That shot should be black and next switch the flash on. The flash angle is a matter of experimentation - but you can easily visualize that in a test shot with the flash firing along (parallel to) a wall in a way that the width of the beam of light becomes visible on that wall - the camera at some distance takes the shot of the wall and thus you have your visual.
      In this case, an indirect flash would have lit the room and you would have had a shot with zero impact.

      @TheMonochromeMemoirs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jpdj2715 exactly this! Also note I’m using a grid on the flash, would’ve lit up the walls too much without one

    • @jpdj2715
      @jpdj2715 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheMonochromeMemoirs - that's what you did with the MagMod. I shoot a bunch of Nikon speedlights that I bought when the Holy Cow (*) firm did not have consistency of flash power and color temperature under control, and their devices had too long flash duration at full power (i.e. slow circuits).
      They fixed that in a number of models now, I believe. Or, I am not familiar with the models or the one you use here. They have some with "zoom" reflectors and maybe the bigger one you use here does not have that (so you need the grid). My point was about the SB-900 that has a zoom reflector and I would guess does not need the grid.
      Talk about Holy Cow - that thing was fast. I know it's only 1/32 and it could do some 32 of those flashes without recycling, but still.
      (*) The Chinese name of this brand translates - Google Translate - as God Ox that is synonymous to Holy Cow and I think that the founders had "so much fun" when they named their company. Nothing Go Dogs here ;) Of course when they wanted to sell the brand outside China they needed to be careful with the godly word.

      @@jpdj2715 My bad. Didn’t know the correct English terminology. In German it’s called „entfesseltes Blitzen“ - meaning the flash can be positioned freely and not just attached to the camera („unshackled“). What do you correctly call that in English?

    Another thing came to mind when on your other video where you were talking about storage space on large files you said you take thousands at one wedding. With that many photos are you even reviewing any of them to make sure you're close to a correct exposure or you just keep shooting w/o occasionally checking?

      Hey Duane,
      So I set up the correct in camera exposure whenever we step into a space with new lighting then we start shooting. Normally Ill shoot a few in the beginning then dial it in, after that its run and gun!
