I relate to your story so so much. Given Xanax and Coke by a parent as well at very young ages, stole cigs as a kid, drank with friends etc… I’m about to stop smoking weed, which is the last thing I need to quit that I have abused. We can do this!
I know it’s so hard being in your shoes but it seems like you just love accomplishing things in full completion and that brings you a sense of purpose. There’s nothing wrong with that, but channeling some of that drive into accomplishing milestones with your kids could be a very real way to redirect that addictive energy in such a beneficial way for them.
