ABC 2000 Tribute and interview with Maila Nurmi

- Majority of The Vampira show footage was broadcast live and was not preserved and lost. However KABC did film segments of The Vampira show for a promotional clip show and this is some of the footage. In 2000 they had a tribute to Vampira with Vampira creator/actress Maila Nurmi.

Vampira didn't have any material. She went poor. Along came Elvira and made something out of it. With boobs, bad humour etc
@@JimiLaMortNurmi was actually brought in as a producer for the project that would become Elvira’s Movie Macabre. She wanted to hand-pick her replacement without having the talent audition. When the studio turned that request down, she walked off the project completely. She then tried to sue them after they cast Cassandra Peterson.
She let her pride get in the way of enjoying her own legacy.
@@TheAzerath Well aware of all that. Question is, Did Casandra Peterson buy up and bury any footage that was found of the original Vampira show? This was done to prevent the public from knowing the truth. That the two characters were the same. I still can't believe that Nurmi lost that court case and a ton of cash pursuing it.
@@JimiLaMort lol that is NOT true at all 😂 There’s very little surviving footage because it was live, late-night television in the 1950’s. There were not film reels preserved because it was not standard practice to record television on kinescopes at that time. This was not a major studio production. There is SO LITTLE television preserved from that era - this is not a Vampira-specific matter. It’s the way things are.
The only surviving tapes are of the pilot episode and a few promos because those tapes needed to be sent to different departments.
Also if you genuinely think Nurmi had a valid case of intellectual property theft, you don’t understand copyright law at all. The courts made the obvious decision.
The cruel irony is that Nurmi could have used the money she spent on court proceedings and hiring thugs to harass Peterson to reinvent her career.
She died bitter and alone because of her own actions.

It was good to hear her say she was glad to be leaving something behind.
She was cool. I loved meeting her.
She almost breaks into tears when she says "it's been tough"Beautiful soul,clearly didn't drink the "gold juice" to be so impoverished.Yet here we are with "Elvira" making a fortune from her creation..... It's awful that Maila wanted her 54 shows on cinefilm but Elvira bought them all so she couldn't...love this lady.❤

Plan 9 From Outer Space was a great movie. I loved it s a kid nd still watch it occasionally. Ed Wood is infamous as the world's worst movie producer, but all of his movies were entertaining. You might say they're so bad they're good.

Elvira literally ripped off her entire character, even copied her show to a T, and never even bothered thanking her or giving her a cut of the spoils. And Maila OWNED the character. She should've been a billionaire.
Do we know who stole her memorabilia from her family yet? I know there is supposed to be a book, The Vampira Diaries coming out... but it was promised in print in fall 2019 with a gofundme raising almost $21,000..then a release in early 2021..seems like the project is having trouble. Is there any more reliable information on any of these topics? I'd like to buy Vampira merch ethically for once..meaning, in the name of (in)human decency, her FAMILY should profit. 🦇
