being a pre-med, i thank u so much for telling us about the gap years...i cannot imagine studying so hard for 7+ years constantly, without a much needed break.
u have always been my motivating factor, and seeing u talk about having a break and personal pre-med timelines is so comforting

Hi Lani, I'm 28 about to be 29 and I am just looking into going to law school. I graduated college in 2021 and these past two years have really helped me change my mind about what I want to do with my life. At first, I thought about going straight into a PhD but I'm glad I waited and didn't do that. Your 20s are all about figuring yourself out and you'll make so many mistakes along the way. Now I feel like my 30s will be a lot more secure because I didn't rush into anything I wasn't are of.

this is so comforting & reassuring to know that there r other ppl out there (besides myself) who aren’t rushing to get thru school. it’s so easy to get stuck in the cycle of comparison & pressures of expectations. but realistically, life doesn’t have a timeline & whatever u choose to do will be the right way ! :)💞

I just wanted to say don't be too hard on yourself. I took 2 gap years between graduation and matriculation as well. I can see that you're a competitive person and it's good to aim for a dream score. I also felt serious imposter syndrome, but because I didn't do as well as my friends, and one of them ended up getting a full score, so I set the bar way too high for myself. When I went to take it for a second time, I felt myself having a nervous breakdown during the exam because of a few difficult questions and voided the exam. The following gap year felt like one of the worst years of my life, but I ended up just biting the bullet and applying with my original score and I'm now finishing up my first year.
Suffice to say your score doesn't matter all that much once your in medical school, although name of medical school does matter now somewhat if you're looking to do a competitive specialty with the change from scored step 1 to p/f. It's now an EC race like pre-med again and at the end of the day the people who I see do the best in med school are the people that are social, able to connect easily with others, and network; which if any of your videos have shown, I'm sure you'd be great at. No one can do it alone and if we had to compare knowledge point for pound, AI's got us beat. So I hope you don't feel like you HAVE to get a certain score, whether it be from influences from your social circle or feeling like you have to uphold a perfect persona because you started off as a study channel. Everything will work out in the end. Best of luck!

Where I live you can go to med school directly after high school, I tried to get in for years, i got accepted on my 14th try (just turned 25 years old). I was burnt out when I got accepted (because of stress for so many years and because of chronic illness). I managed 1,5 years of med school then I had to take a gap year because I had fallen behind (because of illness and I lost my passion for medicine), I’m in my second gap year now and starting again in november. Hopefully I’m gonna graduate when I’m 33 years old. What I want to say with this is
    • It’s so worth it to never give up and follow your dream.
    • I know the feeling of not living your life and I think it’s so smart to take a gap year.
    • Starting med school when you are a bit older is in your advantage, especially as a woman.
    • And again, taking a break is so smart! I wish I had worked hard for a while and taking a complete break for awhile instead of half-assing it for years.

I’m also pre med, and I’m going to be taking 2 gap years too! You’re on your own timeline :) I applaud you for doing what’s best for you because I know it’s not always easy (esp with the pressure that comes along with being pre med). Although I don’t know you, I can tell you’re a very genuine, kind, and strong person-you’d make a great doctor no matter when you decide to start med school! I’ve watched your vlogs for a couple of years now, and I’ve always looked up to you so much! Wishing you all the best on your journey, you’re going to do amazing no matter what 🤗🫶🏼💖

Also doing 2 gap years, I wanted to enjoy my last year of college and honestly I am glad I did! I am working as an emt now and I love it, plus I can save some money before medical school!

We actually have the same birthday! I couldn't agree more about the gap year-- I took a gap year as well between university and med school and it was one of the best decisions of my life. I just finished my intern year of residency and will start dermatology residency next month. Whether you decide on medical school, a master's, or a different path entirely, just make sure that you do what makes YOU happy! best of luck

i did entre med without taking a gap year and i can confirm it's so frustrating the pressure is insane especially that i didn't live my life back when i took the exam and now it's much more hard that i barely live so i highly recommend gap year good luck everyone and love u lani ❤

Hello! I looooove your content haha, I'm in med school in France it's a bit different. After high school we have a first year competition, with an examination, and we have to get the best ranking to enter med school, dental school, etc. And after entering residency (7th year med school) we have another competition to choose our specialty (6th year), I'm in the middle of hard time in med school… So last year, I was entering 3rd year med school and I took a sort of "gap year" because I felt like I couldn't do it all of a sudden without a break, and it's okay. Like you said, we have our own timeline, we have to respect our feelings, and my parents totally understood that. So yes enjoy it, it's your time to focus on you, focus on what you want to do next to your studies because it's long studies. It takes all your time, and we have to enjoy our 20s. I'm already enjoying your future travel videos. Live your life because life is short, we have to catch all the beautiful moments that it offers. Big kiss
