I found this video because I was initially showing my daughter were corn comes from we may go pick some if I can find a farm... Mostly apples here. In the video there were strands corn silk coming from the top.... At home I've always noticed that stuff on the corn, but when I was watching that video and they called it corn silk I wondered if it could be used for something else. Then I ran into this video... I crochet and knit so it would be awesome to have yarn made from this type of fiber... I noticed in this video they mix the fiber with polyester... It would be cool if they became so efficient that they could use corn fiber only. A lot of people try to go with natural fibers or cotton.

Did this ever go anywhere? This video is 8 years old, do we now have a way to use corn fibers for textiles?

Unfortunately I do not think it has, however I have been exploring this particular idea in recent times as well as exploring the idea of trying something similar with banana peels. I'm going to be doing some experiments and I'll let you know how it goes. I might even upload it to my main youtube channel.

i have seen clothing made from bamboo fibre also but these kind of alternative textiles are competing against massive already established industries and need to be extremely cost effective to make gains plus there is undoubtedly lobbyists in ever industry trying to gain advantage over competitors, and last but not least people will think these textiles are corny 🌽
