    I also use an ICOM IC-7300 and HRD and both rig control and audio via the USB cable is COM-6. I set it up like your video but under RIG Control and VARA Configurations, when I specify the CAT Configuration port as COM6, it fails when I select the TEST button. On the other hand, when I select a different frequency on the main page, the radio responds correctly by going to the selected frequency. I have set it up with both a main and monitor and they seem to be working but it shows Disconnected at the bottom right corner. I see you on 20m so maybe I will give it a try as my first contact.

      It’s good to hear from you and thank you for commenting here. The way I’m using it I cannot have HRD rig control connected at the same time VarAC is connected to the radio. I shut down HRD rig control and allow VarAC to control the rig. I just leave HRD logbook open. That’s all that’s needed. I’ll have another video up shortly. 73 and good DX!

      I also only have HRD logbook open and not HRD rig control. That is why I am confused with the conflict indication.@@HamRadioAdventures

      @@markrowell7242 the test button failed for me too, but it works when I am operating. VarAC controls the radio fine when I’m using the program.

    Very informative, I am a novice to this mode. downloaded both programs, however with the VARAC program install, when I click on setup for Rig and etc. I get the Exception error for a missing DLL file pertaining to CAT file missing, because for some reason the list of rigs on the CAT setup are missing, I got to figure that one out.

    Thanks Rich, I know you use Log4OM and wondering how you run both and not have a port conflict with the rig. I use Hamlib with Log4OM but VarAC is not happy.

    • @HamRadioAdventures
      @HamRadioAdventures ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for commenting here Joseph. The easy way is to just disconnect CAT in Log4OM and I'm doing that more often, otherwise, it also works with the setup I'm using with, VSPE, Vfview and Log4OM. VSPE splits the physical COM port. So I start VSPE, Wfview, Log4OM (HamLib) and then VarAC. Good to hear from you, 73 and good DX! de Rich KØPIR

    Why do rename or name a folder VARA - MON, I did the install of VaraHF and there is no folder like this created.

    How does this compare to js8call?

    • @HamRadioAdventures
      @HamRadioAdventures 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      it’s great to hear from you and thank you for commenting here. That’s a great question. Vara HF is a little bit more complicated because you’ll be using two programs. I think JS8Call is easier for most people. As far as activity on the bands with these modes, it’s a little scarce. Both can be excellent in poor conditions though. 73 and good DX!
