I have one as well, and it is a beast. The amp/cab/mic models are amazing just on their own. I’ve made presets for some of my favourite models and that is what I prefer playing through. They have nailed the touch and feel of the modelled valve amps, especially the Fender models.
Certainly agree with you! I still feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface with the amp modelling side of things, due mostly using the unit for live shows. Ie. in front of amp effects. Lots more to discover! Thanks for your comment and for tuning in 🤘🏻
Thanks for the info. I bought one a couple of weeks ago, just starting to get a handle on it. Watching a number of YT channels offering advice on this unit.
Im a gigging musician and ive been considering one of these! Im having a hard time ditching my pedal board, but we travel alot for this particular gig so something portable like this is very enticing. Ive been looking for videos of anyone that has had real world application to it (outside of the studio). Thank you! Id love to hear your review after you perform with it!
Many thanks for the comment. Off out on my first run of gigs minus trad pedalboard today would you believe! Will certainly be bringing my review to the channel, so far though- highly recommend! Stay tuned 🤘🏻
@ just back from the first show! Currently playing guitar Bryony Williams - have done a bunch of stuff on my own/various bands but all the boss stuff has been for this rather fun new gig!
The GX-10 is the only unit I've recently heard and tested than can tempt me to step away from it's earlier sibling the GT-1...the GX-10 is superb when used in dual amp mode output for the nasty stuff.....stunning!! -Boss, are indeed The Boss! 🔥
You can actually assign the knobs 1-4(which are also buttons) as foot switches. If you set them so that when you turn them they toggle an effect on or off then when you press them they do the same. So I assigned the two outside ones which are still pretty easy to tap with your foot to effects that I don’t use all that much. So between that and a $20 two button foot switch I can have a total of seven foot switches but I use the two button switch as my memory up/down.
Incredible idea 👌🏻 though I’m not sure I’d trust myself to not just completely destroy the knobs when stomping in the heat of the moment. What foot switch you got?
@ThePinfieldsMusic Agreed. Using those buttons is not the greatest idea but it does work and hey it's a Boss so it can handle the abuse right? I have the Hotone Ampero switch.
@ boss units literally built to be thrown under a moving vehicle and then plugged in so a tap of a knob isn’t going to be a problem haha. Will investigate that switch, thanks for getting back 👊🏻
I love the GX10. I’ve been getting to grips with it all week and tonight is its live debut. I’m using it straight into the PA. I’m very impressed with it. Especially the X amps. Looks like Boss really spent some time with those. They sound and feel real to me. Very convincing when you’re in the room (difficult to get across on TH-cam etc)
Yes agreed re. In the room vs on TH-cam. Certain things just can’t be filmed...stumbled on the “sag” parameter recently which when dialled in correctly can really enhance the realism of the modelling ‘under your hand’ as it were. Particularly with higher gain stuff. Do let me know how you get on with the GX10 live tonight, have a good gig 👍
@ wow I didn’t know about the sag function. I’m thinking maybe it’s present in the collection of X Amps I’m impressed with 🤔. It’s a great little unit. All going well tonight I could see myself using it for a very long time.
@ yeah it was good last night. Sounded very nice. Will take a while to fully get used to it. Just a couple of things I gotta look into. Is it my imagination or are some patches louder/quieter than others? Is it possible to move certain patches and keep the carry on etc? And where’s the feedback option?
@ great stuff. Glad it worked out for you. As far as patch volume there will be perceived volume difference, maybe actual volume difference, that only becomes really apparent when you use it at gig volume. That’s what I’ve found anyway. Specifically moving between clean and driven patches depending on whether you want your drives to be louder or at a similar volume to your cleans. Carry over is discussed in this Sunday’s video as it happens and certainly warrants a discussion lengthier that possible in the comments section! Thanks again for your input and for tuning in!🤘🏻
Most modellers have around 99 patches available to be personalised to suit any intended song planned to play live, it quite frankly makes more sense to name each patch by the song name instead of tap dancing live, I use a unit live often and even having up to 99 songs named to suit the pre-planned set list if needed, it's much more fun focusing on the playing and engaging with the audiences, I prefer eyes on my audience instead of eyes on the pedal during performance which isn't a good or professional look, it's also a drag farting about when live dancing about etc. I use only about 3 tones max with small variations on them.....clean, breakup or crunch, and absolute murder for my harder material.
Absolute murder 😂😂😂 love it. Certainly agree with you on all of that! First live show with my new rig is this weekend so will be reporting back how the shift to modeller went. Think you’ll get a kick out of Sunday’s video...thanks for the comment 👍
@ThePinfieldsMusic They are at their best potential when their output stage is set to suit the intended end playback options, I gave up conventional guitar amps ages ago, -most guitar amps are mic'ed up to end up in a p.a. no less, in my view, it's much better to use a full range p.a. cabinet as the stage sound/monitor too, the frfr nonsense is always 2-way behind the grill cloth no less...any decent 15x2way p.a. cab for replacement on stage behind the player, is a much better solution hands down...get into some PROPER murdering!!! enjoy!
@@LIKEFUNK great point. I think once you take a step down the road it’s hard not to look at the whole pedals in tube tube amp as being slightly dare I say it- antiquated. I’ve yet to let go of the tube amp personally but I think when you really look at it, we’re not far off a time when all that stuff is gone forever for all of us...maybe?
@ I'm 100% sure that 99.9% of all conventional guitar amps are basically pedal platforms when all is properly considered, they are often also quite costly in their ongoing servicing too, they can often require constant biasing re-justments and every time any tube amp is used it's wearing out the tubes too etc depending on various volumes used etc...the key is to enjoy, not endure, and besides my pair of stage use 15's x 2 way are no more cumbersome than my previously having to drag around a pair or even one 4x12 cab etc...most half decent multi or modeller units these days can win the tone test in a blindfold situation for certain...it's a bit sad that most players are buying via their eyes and not their ears I reckon. for a giggle I mounted my 15x2's into an empty boutique cab or two and none of my players in the audience knew the difference, they did want to kill me after the off stage reveal post gig though?..😂🍺🔥
@ I’m literally staring at a dead fender twin writing this....absolutely solid arguments. I’d also add that many bedroom pedal enthusiasts/hobby gig players would probably be surprised how few high level touring musicians actually still use all that stuff. Watched a great status quo documentary last night - not particularly a fan of the band but great doc. Francis Rossi told a story of how some massive band they were touring with had the whole 1970’s wall of Marshall but actually the guitarist was using a 1x10 combo miked up behind them. Stuck a chord if you’ll pardon the pun haha
I got The gx10 and am very impressed with it. All you wanna do is add Boss FS-7 or any dual footswitch (Bluetooth adapter is optional) btw that’s my setup. And you’re all sets
Yes! Exactly what I’ve been looking at. So the FS7 would become a more accessible up/down in the live situation? Have I got that right? Johnny Marr does something like this I believe. Thanks for watching 🤘🏻
@ yes, I use fs7 to go up and down and I stay in manual mode so I can turn on off effects using 3 foot switches. And Bluetooth adapter to play backing tracks ( you can use app to edit patches which I don’t prefer).
That’s exactly what I’m looking for. Appreciate the real world feedback on the switch- freeing up the switches on the unit opens up lots of possibilities 👍
@ watch Glenn DeLaune's GX10 videos. I think he uses a function called CURRENT NUMBER, to get extra functionality out of the same switch you use to select preset (like a boost and add delay etc)! This means you'll be in one preset bank only. This is one case where the FS7 would be great for switching banks.
@@ChrisTidestrom I think I’ve seen those vids! Haven’t got my head around the “current number” setting yet. Tried it when I was relatively new to the machine and could not get my head around it. Will have to revisit, thanks for reminding me!
After a couple years gigging with GX-100, I replaced it with the GX-10 to save even more weight and space. The GX-100 patches all transfered, and I added a couple of foot switches on a TRS cable to operate the looper. My backup is a ToneX ONE...
@@joebowbeer I could see getting by with just gx-10, and using external switches on occasion. Its great that boss didnt compromise in features with it, just smaller footprint. Tonex is amazing too. Did you profile the gx-10 for tonex or just going with a good sound?
@@kaitsu9608I did not go to the trouble to profile the GX-10 for ToneX ONE, and I'm definitely not looking forward to needing a backup. But if I ever needed to jump on a plane with only what would fit in my pockets, I'd grab a ToneX ONE.
Wow. You have the opposite problem as me. I just got the GX-100 and will be using the M-VAVA Chocolate and another dual switch to cover all the function and it will still feel like a compromise! well, just starting...maybe you'll give me some good ideas and I'll comment again! Very cool man, definitely impressed with this unit so far, as a committed trad-pedal-bloke up to now. Has required a fairly big switch (forgive the pun) in my approach to playing live but I had the best part of 5 years off gigs so it’s the perfect time for a change. More thoughts soon 👍
The FS-1-WL is a great companion for the GX-10 with a BLE MIDI dongle. The FS-1's three foot switches are great and you can add an expression pedal, and another two foot switches (TRS). The FS-1 app and documentation are high quality (distinguishing it from the M-Vave Chocolate/Plus). You can connect the FS-1-WL to both the GX-10 and to the mobile app at the same time.

Thanks for the comment Ian. I loaned an ME90 from a pal for some live shows last year prior to buying the GX10. Certainly considered it but in the end felt that the GX-10 edged it. Could probably bash together a video explaining why at some point. No doubt a great unit though. May yet get one....👍
