As a purist of the Jaguar brand I wouldn't put a none Jaguar V8 engine into any Jag. However, I appreciate the work and that you saved the car and enjoy driving it. So on that basis, I would happy to own and drive such a car. Well done!
Fergus Dublin Ireland Such a magnificent design exterior and interior. The engine sounds superb also. It would have been great to know the spec of the engine and to have seen it, but thank you for the vlog. Super!
Such a lovely old gal. The 73 model year is just so very British in its layout that its no mistaking it for any other model or make. You know its a Jaguar from the looks to the feel of the spokes on the steering wheel & the authentic visceral feel of the controls. Nothing makes you more jolly then commanding such a marvel of a machine. Many people scoff at the American V-8 under the bonnet. Mind you that many custom coach built cars from Italy used the same S.B. C. engine to power their wonderful hand crafted marvel of kinetic art. And they sound every bit the part when when the intake and exhaust are tuned as such. So the change of the soul of the car really is not much of a bother. Glad to see it on the road. That's what really maters.
I had series 1 jag with 400 chev larger pistons became 410 ( 6.6 litre) very fast acceleration up steep hills even competition swaybar on front ( beautiful handling ) however if i was to build " ultimate v8 conversion would be a 427 big block stroked to the " max" around 468
Vallejo! Used to live there for a while, I like to shoot a lot of stuff at Mare Island still. When I bought this car the interior and body work was already done, so I don't know anyone specifically. However, I know somebody that will know somebody. Go to Regal Collision Repair there on Tuolumne st in Vallejo, the owner Jim and his wife Shelly have been embedded deep in that community for a long time and will for sure know a good resource for you there in or near Vallejo. Tell them Frank sent you
That "creaking sound" is one of your chassis legs scratching at your bulkhead.. 🤔 You might want to check that, the extra torque of the Chevy engine could be an issue, you may need extra torsion bars under the hood to take the extra strain..
So yeah I didn't do the swap, but it's a th350 and yeah a 700r4 or any overdrive trans out be rad. Still freeways pretty well though. Do you have to mod the trans tunnel at all for the OD trans or is it fine with out any major floor or tunnel mods?
@@ThePhotographersGarage hey buddy, how much or the avg price to do this swap and engine, trans, etc. I want to put a domestic engine on my slow running 1983 jaguar xj6.
Nice rig. I did the 350 conversion into a 1974 xj12L I wish I had of kept the V12 it was smooth and fast but impossible to work on. Do you photograph Wildlife?
I know you sold it years ago did you bought it with the original engine and swap it for a Chevrolet 307 V8 or it was in bad shape and no engine or it was in great shape but it’s missing a engine
I really cannot forgive swapping that smooth xk 4.2 but at least you keep the v8 well damped down. I do not understand why Americans have such an issue with the xk engine my father had 8 4.2. 1, 3.4 & 2 5.3 v12 All 4.2 have been good for 150k between major overhaul. What do you do wrong stateside Do you forget to use the right antifreeze mix or oil mix or set the point regularly sometime i think you don't drive them right or fast enough ok uk limits 70 but most times it 85mph and British driver tend to be stop light racers We push our engine hard plus we woukd do a lot continental travel on unregulated roads alwayn100mph plus for hrs at a time non of that 55mph limit stuff. Xk engine was designed to be driven hard after 2000 mile brake in stage, Only ever had 1head gasket go that was because some metal on the autobhan flew up into engine by sliced through the water hose we lost all coolant quickly & head gasket went. We would flush engine every 3 years. But our car were good.
I agree !! A big part of the appeal of Jaguars are the engines, either the six or the twelve. No idea why is only seems to be in the US that they struggle with the Jag engines and put an old ferrous-donkey of engine in it.
I have a 72 series one and have spent so much time and money trying to get it to run smoothly. It’s bloody terrible, even with the help of old experts. I seriously won’t to ditch the original and replace it with a Rover V8, so it’s a little bit more fun to drive but still British.

xk engine better than any shitty us v8
Seems like a well sorted car and its great that over 50 years old it still exists.
Lovely series 1 xj... Nice conversion, ... Looks good, goes well, sounds good, thanks for sharing

Would that be an all aluminum crate engine?
@@johnnyboy1586 yes 427 crate engine
Wonderful car. 👍🏻
Move the driving wheel on the sticks about one turn; right in, left out. Does not the gearbox hold the engine too high?
No footage of the engine compartment ?
Difficulty? Cost? So funny my driver door panel came off same spot

Very nice. An extra couple of gears wouldn’t go astray
Agreed, an overdrive gear would be lovely
Is it for sale

Did you lower the car?
Lots of parts can be broken in the heater system..little suction tubes
Having done this swap did you go with 4 speed automatic or 3 , I have an 86 low mileage with 3 speed and would love a 4 speed. Very cool car!

Pretty much just people and cars
A lad in Canada put an LS3 into a 1992 Jaguar XJS. He did a lovely job and now has a car with an engine supported in his county.
@wayland7150 yeh the sbc and ls swaps are just superior in every way compared to the original engines
Got one sitting in a shed in Brisbane right now.
what kind of gauges did you put on it?
So these where in it when I bought it, the main cluster is OEM and the center set are AutoMeters

I bought it with the 307 already swapped into it, so I'm not sure why it was swapped.
Very nice toy!
Is this car still for sale ?
Nope, sold on Bring a Trailer about a year ago.
May be the new owner like to sell ??
It's crazy how similar parts of California look like Australia, if this was rhd it could any state in aus.
