    I tried this drill last week, and it worked wonders within ten practice balls. It has continued to work every day since. My hips have tended to spin out on my downswing for years, but this drill really does, as he says, "keep your hips at bay." What I also like is that the flights of the practice balls really don't matter, so I don't have to worry about "fixing" them. I can spray them, hit them thin, whatever, but as soon as I try a full swing, the desired result is there. Thanks so much!

    I tried this drill briefly right before a round last week and I was hitting my iron so nicely. I've been stuck at 10 handi for years and I feel like I finally found the last piece of the puzzle to start shooting in the 70s. Thanks!!!!!

    Patrick this drill has been a huge success for me. I've been fighting blocks and hooks for a long time now. This drill has made a massive difference. It also seems to be somehow helping me to get a lot more width on my backswing, faster club head speed and better compression. Thank you!

    Thanks, this was really a break-through tip. I would like to add a comment that may help others.
    I began "scooping" the ball when doing the drill. It was essential for me to keep my back to the target as shown, but get my chest (jacket zipper) over the ball in the downswing, even in front of the ball (for my irons). (You'll know if you have that scooping feeling).

    I've seen a number of people show this drill but it's never been explained quite like this. It took less than 10 swings (in the living room) to get the hip/shoulder sync feeling. It's a great drill now that I know it's purpose.

    Patrick I can't tell you how much this drill had helped me. I even incorporated the feel into my Prescott routine. How often should I do this? Every time I practice? Should I do it at the end of my practice session or beginning? Also how long would it take for these habits to bleed over to my driver swing on a more consistent basis? Thanks again for the awesome drill

    Thanks a lot! I tried everything against my push slices pull hooks. This one actually works for me. Best drill for people who shoot their lower body in the transition to downswing. I could hit decent irons but my driver has always been my nemesis untill last game. It makes the game a lot more enjoyable when you can go for the green with a wedge than 3wood from the woods or the next hole's fairway :D

    @watertonrivers Mr. Barber is one of several PERFECT examples of what I believe is great timing. Great timing examples come both in slow swings and fast swings. Mr. Barber is obviously the 'slow' example. The start of his backswing and the start of his forward swing are VERY similar speeds...hence, great timing. Some great golfers have faster speeds, some have slower speeds, but nonetheless the backswing and forward swing speeds of each are very similar.

    I would suggest my 'Bump the Bag' drill. This encourages more active hips and leg drive during the forward swing arc.

    this may be the most important golf video ever. just to make everything clear, am i to understand that the arm drop and hip bump (and some weight shift forward) have already occured by the time of the theoretical pause in your shown swing. this implies that the lateral hip shift takes place with the hips in a slightly closed position. this is going to enlighten a whole generation

    Ah yes...the 'old throwback swing'. I STRONGLY encourage you to visit my instruction site and read up on the 'On Plane Swing'. The 'On Plane Swing' addresses the 'old throwback swing' in detail. Yes...this drill will encourage the hips and shoulders to be 'in sync'. Also, I would strongly suggest the 'how to cover the ball' drill. The 'On Plane Swing' will address all of this. Good Luck!

    Patrick, what is your thought for initiating the downswing, are you using your hips? It seems like the arms begin the downswing in this drill.

    • @sevenunder29
      @sevenunder29  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian... Ideally, I like to see a simultaneous move between the hips and shoulders to start the forward swing. I classify golfers as 1. Over the Toppers or 2. Under Spin Flippers. This particular drill will greatly help out #2 above. I give much more detail at my golf instruction site.
      Thank you.

    • @sevenunder29
      @sevenunder29  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mikail Turan Rory will make me a prophet one day. As I've read just recently with his 'Schwarrzenegger' routine in the gym...he works out so much for his 'ailing' lower back. I've predicted his lower back problem about 5 yrs ago with his golf swing. Rory...has a very 'old throwback' swing and a very GOOD one I might add. Unfortunately, his swing puts TREMENDOUS STRESS on his lower back and will continue to do so unless he changes. His firing of the hips and squatting was an answer to his 'big draw' that he use to play. After his last swing change (circa 1.5 yrs ago) he has curbed his 'big draw' and also ...helped his back to a certain extent. He would GREATLY benefit with a more pronounced upper body weight transfer to his forward foot during the forward swing arc.

  • @eddiebrown687
    @eddiebrown687 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    This pro is very good and he's right about drills, and muscle memory. Unfortunately, 90% of the people that play golf don't have the time or patience for drills. We don't want to spend a lot of time and money and not see any positive results. If golf companies were smart, they and the USGA would design equipment that allowed you to have fun playing golf with the swing you already have.

  • @sevenunder29
    @sevenunder29  13 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Every golfer has 2 transitions during the golf swing (start of the back swing and start of the forward swing). These transitions MUST be similar/same in speed. Most golfers have an unusually slow, mechanical, methodic slow takeaway. This slow/super slow takeaway actually encourages getting stuck. The body must jump gears to get club head speed up to normal speed, the result...getting stuck. Very simply, learn to take the club away at a quicker pace.

    Was taught this swing 10 yrs ago from George Serhan (best coach). I play off 4, i have an average carry w/ my driver of 270m w/ sum still left in the tank. I could b better golfer but I don't practice, i don't do drills (due to young family). This is the swing teaching pros should b teaching amateurs it makes the game so much more fun

    Hey Patrick, Would this drill have similar effects without actually hitting balls?

    • @sevenunder29
      @sevenunder29  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Justin Lordi Absolutley. This drill, like all drills, creates new muscle memory. Golf ball flight for 'validation' is not the intent. You will not need a golf ball to perform this drill.

  • @falopz
    @falopz 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    patrick how to avoid the rebound effect, if you try to gains speeed, when you stop the motion there is like a rebound effect

    • @sevenunder29
      @sevenunder29  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      First...'speed' is not what the purpose of the drill. So...make EVERY effort to not 'rebound' the swing at the re start. Come to a complete stop for 1.5 seconds (or more if needed). The whole purpose of this drill is to train the hips to 'not take off without the shoulders'. You must make a consious effort to not 'rebound' the re start. If you watch my vid...you will notice 1. I take a full 1-2 seconds to stop. 2. I do not 'rebound' the restart.
      I hope this helps.

    Hi Patrick. Im definitely and under spin flipper. I hit the driver 280 but suffer from a big pull and over hook the irons. I did this drill and I started to actually push the ball with the driver with little curvature. Do you see that as good progress?

    • @sevenunder29
      @sevenunder29  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris... a 'push' is a very strong sign of out of sync or 'under spin flip'. I would continue to do this drill a lot and often. Also...I would recommend my other drill... 'How to Cover the Golf Ball. This drill is more effective for the 'Under Spin Flip' transition.

    • @pedersen47
      @pedersen47 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Patrick Damore Golf Instruction Hi Patrick the push is happening when performing the drill not with my regular swing. It seems to be turning my pull into a straight ball flight

    • @sevenunder29
      @sevenunder29  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Pedersen That makes more sense.....the push happens with the drill. Must realize, during normal golf swing, there is a HUGE amount of body/torso rotation during impact. When performing the drill, the body/torso rotation is minimized or even stagnant to a certain extent. Remember.....never get caught up with lack of solid contact and ball flight direction when performing drill work. Solid contact and ball direction is comepletely not the point. The point of drill work is .....New Muscle Memory.

    • @pedersen47
      @pedersen47 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Patrick Damore Golf Instruction Patrick this drill would also help me with my tendency to "getting quick" at transition and rushing the downswing correct?

  • @corysawchuk4014
    @corysawchuk4014 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    You need to have a reverse c at impact. Most of the greatest golfers ever to play was taught to have that. It leads to consistency by having a way better impact position for good ball contact and ball flight

    • @littlemonkey4352
      @littlemonkey4352 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Disagree. Take a look at this:
      www.golftipsmag.com/instruction/faults-and-fixes/is-your-swing-out-of-date/
      "The Golden Bear is arguably the greatest competitive golfer of all time, but now he has an artificial hip. Looking at his release position, it’s not hard to see why Nicklaus has back and hip problems-his head is stuck behind the ball, and his hips have slid laterally, placing a tremendous amount of stress on his body."
      That's why that's old school.

    • @corysawchuk4014
      @corysawchuk4014 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If its old school why do so many players still do this on the tour?????

    • @sevenunder29
      @sevenunder29  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea...definitely old school. I explain this in GREAT detail at my instruction site under the page...'Why Change'.

    • @sevenunder29
      @sevenunder29  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cory... times are changing for sure. Many professionals are swinging with more weight transfer and making a positive move to 'cover' the ball and 'compress' at impact. Tom Watson made this change (or as much as he could) when he turned 42 ish...and his last 7 years on the big tour showed why he was the best ball striker on tour. He was up to that point...old school and BIG reverse C. I encourage you to think about it.

    • @corysawchuk4014
      @corysawchuk4014 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes he did make that change, but when he released his instructional video why would he encourage the reverse C though. He also was one of the greatest ball strikers before he made the change. Mainly why he won his 8 majors.

    So hips taking off is that spin causing me to hit out towards the toe of the golf club

    • @sevenunder29
      @sevenunder29  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Matthew Miller.... Matt...in my experience, most of my students who 'toe' the ball (hit towards toe vs center) all have one thing in common... an early release of the hands during the forward swing up to impact. Although I discourage 'super late lag' for expert golfer, this 'late lag' will create more 'center' strikes in your swing vs the toe shot. Practice releasing the hands later during the forward swing arc to improve your strike.

  • @joem1619
    @joem1619 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    This could be the solution for me as I fire my hips too early and my hands are away out causing me to hit thin and heel shots.

  • @1Mannco
    @1Mannco 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's true you shouldn't have a "super slow takeaway" and a jerky fast downswing. That can lead to swinging under the plane/getting stuck inside which can lead to hitting it fat because your hands try to catch up by flipping it at inpact to square it. That causes a fat divot to the right for right handers. Learn to have a normal speed takeaway, a gradual faster downswing and full speed at inpact. The downswing should be on plane, "covering the ball" like dropping the hands straight down the line

  • @sevenunder29
    @sevenunder29  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow... so the shoulders are more open at impact than the hips at impact? I don't personally see that with any tour pros. In fact, I don't see any tour pros, even the 'pull faders' with their shoulders more than 20 degrees (David Duval and Dustin Johnson possibly to negate a very strong grip) open to the target line at impact. Maybe we are not talking 'apples to apples' in terms of reference point
