Youre the first one that realised that Sookhee and Hideko saying the same to the Men "What does a Crook know of Love". I love this Movie, the first time i watched it i Was shocked about the Sex scene and the plot after and then seeing that the actuall sex scene was Longer...I mean where else do we got that. Besides that do i love the way they both changed cause they loved each other.
The handmaiden actress went on to have an impressive career, many best actress awards. The Heiress actress got caught in a scandal, withdrew from celebrity life and just does occasional indi films. 22 films, of which I've seen 13.
Thanks for your reaction. I'm a little sorry that Fujawara's character is often given a superficial opinion. There is a detail that is very easy to miss. When he first talks to the character Uncle, he says: "I look women in the eyes. Only in the eyes. They look away. But they always look back." But when Lady Hideko looked into Fujawara's eyes for the first time, he was the one who looked away. And then he looked back. And the same thing happened in the scene when Mistress Hideko first time called the Handmaid to her. Only in this case they both looked into each other's eyes, both turned away and both looked back! This is the big difference between their stories. Fujawara fell in love with the Lady with unrequited love. He understood in his head that she would never love him back (perhaps he even thought that she was a lesbian or asexual), but he couldn’t tell his heart. And so he came to her with a plan to save her. He didn't need her money, he wanted her. And then Fujawara simply deceived himself, hoping that Hideko would love him back. Yes, he is not a good person, in many ways he does not understand women (partly because he grew up in such a society), and so on. But it was his sincere love that saved the Lady and ultimately destroyed him. I would like the viewer to understand this more often, but his storyline is the most secretive. Only after 3 viewings and the video from Spikima Movies "Symbolic Storytelling of The Handmaiden" I realized this
