I really admire him for going his own way as in style of music , obviously before I really started listening to his music I did just think of him as Bob Marley's son but he's so talented in his own right and deserves so much recognition for his talent. HIS EX STEP DAD IS A THIEVING CUT OF A LAWYER SO YOU WOULDN'T EXPECT HIM TO not attend a prep school.I literally saw and heard his mummy insulted a hungry peasant.ain 1986 in lens happy supermarket as he begged her something from her heavily rammed tolley.She and A gal name Donna Felts were joint owners of the Craft shop upstairs the plaza.From that day I wish upon her omen.Her life wouldn't have taken the trajectory it had.Had she not met male. • @BritishJamaican777
      @BritishJamaican777 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@swahilimandela5610 what's his mother got to do with him? Because his mother is pale skinned, beggers in Jamaica will follow behind you and constantly beg and after a while it begins to annoy you if you cant even walk down the road without someone begging 15-20 times each day. The Bible says it's a sin to beg and those who dont work wont eat. Imagine if 30 people begged her something every time each day, how would she even feed herself?
      I dont think you understand how Jamaicans think, but the beggars are worse and most Jamaicans think that even the very shoes on your feet you must take them off and give them to someone straightaway if someone asks you for them just because they think you can buy another pair the same day. Some Jamaicans can be very self-absorbed that way.
      I was at a funeral in Jamaica last month and was wearing goloshes/wellington/water boots and a woman was looking at them and saying 'oh your feet are really small, much smaller than mine' meaning if my feet were the same size as hers or bigger she would have asked me for the boots I had on and be expected to have them straight away otherwise she would have cussed me and called me a 'mean english' to shame me, or 'you live in England, you can always buy another pair' etc.
      These are the things Jamaicans do to shame and beg and embarrass you when they *think* you have more than them just because you live overseas. They wont do it to the tourists anymore because they know the police will lock them up if a tourist complains about beggars, that's why tourists dont have that happen to them.
      I have seen the nasty covetous behaviour in Jamaica and it becomes draining after a while, even family members will do it. why do you think most of the younger Marleys dont live there?
      THAT is why Cindy cussed off the beggar, because if you give to one, they will brag to other beggars and those other beggars will come to beg when they see them running errands too. I have seen beggars only walk up to light-skinned people in Jamaica, because they assume light/pale-skinned people are rich and some are rude enough to even tap their shoulder and they know they cant to that to dark-skinned Jamaicans.

    Damion grew up in upper class suburbia with Cindy and her first husband, a politician with the Jamaica Labour Party. He did not start performing with Bob's children with Rita, but with his social peers (children of his mother and step father's friends.) Dancehall was the big influence on youngsters of all classes, including the gentry. While there were conscious DJs who advocated morals, Damion started out imitating Shabba Ranks' cocksman genre, and deejayed about his father (Bob) being a Bedroom Bully. When he started to work with Stephen Marley, his lyrics changed and became more socially critical, and Stephen's excellent production helped make him a star.

    He doesn't think he's above his countrymen and you can tell he has a real connection with those living the struggle and recognizes the fact he's just a generation removed and if not for music he probably wouldn't exist.

    Bob Marley was the man. He was not only a special musical talent he was prophetic in a way. He wasn’t a prophet per se as that is a loaded word but he was as close to it as you van get but he was humble & genuine. He was much like his voice: it was powerful yet genuine, soft & warm while being devoid of flamboyance or showy superfluous ornamentation. His music was amazing & influential but it’s arguable that Bob Marley the man was just as powerful & influential. Two of my favorite singers/musicians burned brightly but tragically left us too soon. Both Jim Morrison & Bob Marley were prolific workers & left lasting & enduring bodies of works which are jaw dropping since they both died so young - Jim at 27 & Bob at 36.
    Now much has been made of Bob’s extra marital affairs & having multiple “illegitimate” children out of wedlock with multiple women. Now he might have technically been a womanizer but it was far more complex than that just like him. He was a man who didn’t have a lot of vices or materialistic desires or greed much like Jim Morrison. Jim loved booze, poetry & perhaps women. Bob loved music, soccer & some weed but that was more spiritually centric versus being about altering the mind. However it’s arguable that Bob loved people, family & women the most.
    Bob had what we know as an open relationship but it wasn’t formally labeled as such. He was open & honest with his wife Rita with whom he stayed married to for his entire life until his tragic premature death. Rita herself had a child with a famous Jamaican soccer player while her & Bob were together. Bob adopted Rita’s daughter from a previous relationship & brought her into the Marley family. Bob wasn’t having one-night stands & sleeping with groupies he’d ne’er see again. He had actual strong friendships & relationships with women that sometimes led to pregnancy & children out of wedlock. Both Bob & all the mothers of his kids including Rita were honest & friendly with each other. They made sure that the kids were included in the family despite having different Mom’s & were part of their siblings & father’s lives. I think that is not only pragmatic & smart, but admirable & beautiful. They didn’t project their bad emotions on their kids like many do which negatively affects them all. For example, a child from affair can be resented by the wife as he or she is a reminder of that infidelity. Bob & Rita thought children were treasures & innocent. They actually lived their values. Well, you can say he broke his vows but don’t be so quick to judge - hear me out.
    So for all intents & purposes while Bob was married to Rita & had several children outside of their marriage, all the kids were brought into the family fold & friendly with their siblings & “step” Mom’s. Bob was present in their lives. He made sure that he spent time with the mothers, the kids & the kids did more than just know of each other but spent tiem with each other & grew up together. The different women were friendly with each other. Bob was allegedly very open & honest about all the extramarital affairs with Rita. So while he did have kids out of wedlock he was a present father & made sure all the kids felt included & not excluded. That is admirable & crucial I think. This is why they are close knit & the family doesn’t have toxic animosity or resentment between the various children & mothers. This is more than I can say about a lot of other fathers it Baby Daddy’s. Now ot was obviously complex & perhaps chaallengin & difficult at times but most good things take work. I think its admirable & beautiful.
    The Marley family was unorthodox but it seemed to have worked. Bob sadly & tragically died way too young at age 36 in 1981 but I would bet that he’d say his most precious legacy that he left isn’t his music but his children. Look at Damien here. He is obviously close to his Mom, proud of his father & family. They’re obviously a famous family & the kids have enjoyed success on their own in their own right as they forged their own paths & careers. They aren’t just the kids of Bob Marley. I think they’re a special family because of the 11 kids, multiple mothers & them making it all work by putting family first & being a family. Bob is probably smiling in heaven down on his family incredibly proud of his greatest legacy his kids, not his music.

    3:30 ... actually, he already said that he did NOT like the "love songs" much when he was still very young, before the afro and before the dreads. He literally said that he preferred the REBEL sounds with deep base, not the love songs.
    So, really, he hasn't changed at all over the decades (as far as which songs of Bob he likes most). He's forgotten what he said (he said he can't remember), but he's been consistent with that.
