I'm of the camp that we should be allowed to pick whatever pet we get to take for the whole expedition. Most players will have no issue abandoning their expedition over and over just to get the pet they want, since they appear at the first inn, so might as well bite the bullet and let us pick the one we want and build our team around it.
This feels a lot like old paths. Back then people had no issue with restarting again and again to find the path they wanted, and it just wasn’t all that fun when you wanted to try out a specific team but had to pray to RNGesus until it worked. Paths got changed so we could pick, don’t see why the same shouldn’t happen for pets.
Say you get a dancing team and you don’t get croc? Or you take monarch leper and you want little shambler. But it doesn’t appear, instead, you get the nice increase in road collection but feel the run is not a special. Only problem I see is that every time you see flapjack maker in the first inn, you will almost always take the hare. Each flapjack stack gives a max HP for everyone which can be insane.
I went into the config files and un-unlocked the last 4 pets. This kinda fixed it for me. The last 4 pets are non-synergetic, and I really liked considering my options in the first inn with what pets I'm offered and what stagecoach items I'm offered. When I had all of the pets unlocked it just never lined up anymore so I decided I wanted to disable the last 4. Alot more fun like this imo. The Tick and the Shambler are good and is bit of a bummer but Croc and Eater are bad.
The Shambler's Spawn has another hidden drawback: If you get into an actual Shambler fight with it equipped, the Shambler will go full Mama Bear and gain a huge buff.
I just did a rabbit run and I got super lucky and got stew pot, griddle, and ice chest at first inn, and barrels at the second inn. By the end of the 2nd region I had an entire inventory of food. My MAA had like 90hp, my HM PD and Jester had like 70hp, and my whole team was like 11-15 speed lol. The only downside was inventory management because I literally had 0 spaces.
Blood tick/the blood is simply OP. I always complete my runs when I go with this pet, the trick is to fight as many battles including road battles to get as many as possible. Usually with this tactic I manage to get 6 to 10. If you can couple it with the trophy that increases combat items limit by two(from the sea boss) you can have a single hero carry 4 bottles of the blood, another hero can carry stress healing item and you're good to go. Always have a heavy hitter in your team (leper, occ, helion or even bh)
I REALLY like the Larval Carrion Eater because it lets you heal up before the big fight in both creature dens and boss lairs, reducing the risk associated with the excellent rewards therein. Also, if you're generating crit tokens by other means, you can basically use it to oneshot a corpse to heal AND still have a crit token next turn.
Larval Carrion Eater seems to me like a ''Oops I brought a heavy frontline damage team with no reach'' kinda pet. I dont hate it since it tries to mitigate a mistake that a new player might make in team building and brings absolutely no downsides alongside but it definitely loses value once you settle into the more reliable teams. The fact that its a somewhat big candle investement to get also prevents it from being a pet that foster bad habits. Definitely not the best pet but I still like the design. Making it only give block with removal skills would be cool to make it more usable without it being too good.
Do you need to unlock stagecoach items and food items first to make most of these pets usable? For example at the start of the game you have only 1 type of food unlocked and some stagecoach items unlocked. So that means I need to unlock other things first before getting most of the pets right?
I mean, you try to put a positive spin on all of them but some of these are just flat out not competitive when you always have 3 options. A dance team will still get more out of the wolf cub over the course than a slow damage buff, the pliskin won't beat debuff resistance, etc.
The crocodilian seems like a fun one, I love dance teams, but I can definitely see the 2% not being enough to scale within a reasonable amount of time.

Honestly now that Duelist is released, I wonder how much power she will get off of crocodilian since she is kinda like shieldbreaker in that she moves a lot
@@ShuffleFM Actually, now that I think about it, all the animals are available to pick from the first inn and there's not that arbitrary random 3 anymore, so if its to a teams benefit to pick croc, its just there. Kinda sucks that healing items are not percentage based anymore but that just means they're good for more squishy heroes now
I hate the fact I have done over 20 expeditions farming the first region, and never found The Blood. Had no idea what it was, what it looked like, etc. Why does it bother me? Characters that get the goal to use that item 4 times. Thanks for nothing, game!
Aren't you abit concerned when 1.0 comes out that it'll change something and make this guide obsolete? I'm not critiquing you or anything, I'm just wondering your thought process
The infographic didn't have "pet balance" on it so I felt pretty safe for this one. This video only took about 30 minutes so it's not the end of the world if I have to redo it :)

I don’t think so. I had an encounter with superior Shambler without the Spawn. Maybe you got Spawn equipped then meet ones, just like me.

You can still win with any of them, some variety won't hurt anyone. (Though maybe avoid the crocodilian unless it gets buffed)

Not gonn lie, i think the only fact havent been screwed by loathing is because my Damian rolled with 100% oblivion tear scouting.

She has high base speed too so the penalty won't hurt her too badly.
