that's the beauty of true Raiders and true Steelers fans, despite the intense rivalry in the seventies, true fans of each team can still respect the great players on both sides.
Best Clutch QB to ever play. He was legendary. He pulled off miracles in big time games. The NE playoff game in 76 was an absolute thriller that often gets overlooked but it was every bit as good as all the other last second come from behind miracle victories that the Snake pulled off. Let's also not forget the Monday night game at NO in 1979. Only one word can describe that come back: INCREDIBLE
R.I?P. You were the reason I became a Raider fan as a 10-year-old kid. Won some epic battles. And a Suoer Bowl. You lived a great life, sir. Rest in peace. :(
A Raider fan all my life. There was just something very special watching Kenny and Madden on the sidelines talking together. I don't know of any other QB/Coach relationships like this. You could just picture this two guys, alone, having a beer, going over strategy together. Snake was cool.
The goddamn Immaculate Reception. The Raiders got screwed big time on that play and surely would've gone on to win the Super Bowl that year. Instant replay would've saved the day, but it is what it is. RIP Snake! You've moved on to the great gridiron in the sky. You will be missed.
Greg Benson not trying to undermine Stabler but he did toss 222 INT's compared to 194 TD's and his QB rating was only 75..That said he was a decent QB but not in the class of Bradshaw or Staubach..plus he only won one SB
Well i am just quoting my dad (who passed away in 2004) and knew everything about football.years and years ago he said Joe Namath had the best arm he has ever seen. Not powerful, but pin point perfection with grace and accuracy.Better than Montana but hs knees were his own worst enemy.the best player my dad saw in his opinion was Jim Brown, but OJ Simpson was incredible. And the toughest under rated Son of a bitch QB was Terry Bradshaw.
Kenny Stabler was the most spectacular QB ever. Called his own plays. Read defenses like no other. He never feared throwing into coverage. Never played for the stats, only to WIN. Most beautiful tight spirals the NFL has seen. The HOF without Stabler is an outrage. The Snake is one of the BEST EVER!
This is football. These are real men. I like the NFL of today, I *LOVE* the NFL of yesterday. back then, it was about the game, not about the money. Kenny Stabler, Lyle Alzado, Jack Lambert, Mean Joe Green, Dick Butkus...the names go on and on. RIP Kenny, you were a man among men.
We were talking favorite football teams/players in high school gym class and I named the Raiders and Stabler. My gym teacher got really hot and spat out, "Stabler's a bum. He's a bum!" Never saw the guy so bent before. Just made me like the Raiders and The Snake even more :)
Being a Steeler fan in the 70s, I hated Stabler. But I always respected him. He didn't have the arm or the legs of Bradshaw but he had a brilliant football mind and got the most out of his talent. To this day, I can picture him standing by himself after a play, hands on his hips, deep in thought as he was deciding what play to call next.
Much love for Kenny "the snake" Stabler and sad he left us so soon. I am a long suffering Dolphins fan and the "pass" ended our early 70's dynasty but I always loved how Kenny played .
JacoZawinul Farve 508TD/336INT's Stabler 194/TD/222INT's don't get me wrong he was good but his stats arn't even in Farve's class..Stabler tossed more INT's than TD's
regardless i liked the guy.he was a character and a great collage QB..11-0 and the Sugar Bowl at Alabama..Hey when your nic name is the snake that's bloody cool
Trev Mac When is everyone going to understand this game? When you're 3rd or 4th and forever, an interception thrown deep is the same as a punt. Even better, at least you gave your team a shot at a completion. Favre and Snake's interceptions and any other selfless QB for that matter, are a result of a lack of talent around them.
Longtime fan of Kenny Stabler. I was pretty young when he played at Bama and as he transitioned into an Oakland Raider I was old enough to start taking notice. The more he played, the more I admired him. He was a hellion off the field and a true blue player and team leader on it. His move to the Oilers and the Saints allowed me to also become a Bum Phillips fan. After his playing days, Stabler became the color commentator for Alabama Football games with Eli Gold. I loved listening to Kenny because he knew the game so well. And best of all he was a fan favorite. No matter where he was or what he was doing, he always tried his best to accommodate his fans with an autograph. He was as down to earth as they came. It was a sad day for me to hear of his death and a joyous one to hear he finally made it into the Hall Of Fame. RIP Snake, I Salute You.
Does anybody remember a Monday Night football game where Snake got them from behind 3 or 4 touchdowns to win! Everything he threw they caught; God it was beautiful!!!
Hell Yes - 1979 in New Orleans down 35-14 in the 3rd quarter and boom boom bang 42-35.I believe that was his last great moment with the Raiders. Had to feel bad for Plunkett who came into the game when the Raiders offense was huddled up. Snake told him to get the eff off the field and that was as humialiting a walk as Ive ever seen an athlete make. RIP Snake.
Stabler, goes deep to Branch, TOUCHDOWN! I said those words so many times in my dreams! The glory days of the Raider's, of my youth, of the USA! RIP Snake, my hero!!
Over the Holiday weekend I was in an elevator .I keep looking at this guy .The elevator came to stop .I asked him has anyone ever told you you look like Kenny Stabler ?He said I am Kenny Stabler. Said that explains that.He asked please don't tell anyone .Told him I would not .Said you had a lot of great years of Football. He said those years are long gone and walked away .Kenny if you every read this,I wanted to tell you they can never take them away . Thanks for the memories .May you get your long overdue call from the Hall Of Fame .He's still cool !
This is the Proffessional sports team I have the most respect for. They could have laid down that last game and avoided the Steelers. But they didn’t because they wanted to play the best. If they had won the Super Bowl without going through the Steelers it would have meant nothing. That’a what you call a true Champion. One that doesn’t shy away from challenges.
Some of the most exciting football I've ever seen was the Stabler era in the NFL they were cool on and off the field ,great to they're fans and you could never count them out of a game.James Garner was always on the sidelines of home games in Oakland, and Madden was a great coach.
As a Broncos and Vikings fan, I've never liked the Raiders. That being said, I honestly think Ken Stabler and Dave Casper are two of the best players ever at their positions. They are my two favorite Raider players from the past. My three other favorite Raiders from that era are: Mark van Eeghen, Clarence Davis, and Monte Johnson.
Not sure how one can be a fan of two teams and then have favorite players on a third team. As a Raider fan I fking hate the Bronco's, their stupid Orange uniforms, their absolute a$$f'king in the AFC 1977 title game, but especially their fans. Course I hate everyone associated with the NFL and pretty much everyone else lol. Maybe a little extra hate for the Broncos and Chiefs. Hard to hate on the Chargers since they suck and have always sucked and will always suck. Loved the 48-16 pasting in 92 (of course I was there) and of course 59-14 in 2010 (damn rejected a ticket for that game). Seen Raiders vs Bronco's 13 times - Oakland, LA, Denver and on Jan 7th Vegas. Maybe Denver will need a win to make the playoffs. That would make that game fun since the Raiders continue to suck - at least until they play Denver lol.
I'm a steeler fan through and through the fact that this guy had to die to get in the hall and that other raiders from that era aren't in is 100% BS! I'll tell you why its because the nfl hates the raiders all due to that lawsuit.
Grateful Steeler fan since '74. When Stabler drifted back into his pocket late in a playoff game it struck fear in my heart as a kid. I just knew deep down inside that downfield Branch and Biletnikoff were working themselves free. Branch probably on a fly or post and Biletnikoff on a down-and-out. Not to mention Dave Casper. I can hear Curt Gowdy now. When Stabler would half pump-fake in his supercool way late in a playoff game on 3rd down my heart sank. Here it comes. Ready or not.
@@Eddie-uf6bs. If you look at the replay carefully, "Snake" definitely intentionally grounded the football forward to keep the play alive against the Chargers and FB Pete Banasak shoveled the ball forward along the ground towards the end zone as he was being tackled so that TE Dave Casper would have a chance to fall on the ball in the end zone for a TD! Although an illegal play by Stabler, it was a smart, heads-up play by him nonetheless!😂😀
That's what I'm talking about.."Silver & Black"...Trust me man,..The RRRaiders are heading down that road once again.Despite our current 0-9 season, good things are on the horizon.
Greatest QB of all time? Probably not. In my eyes, Ken Stabler was. I saw him bring them down the field so many times. I always thought that if he ever made it to the Pro Football H.O.F. I would go to the induction ceremony. When he passed away, I was hugely disappointed. He did finally got in and deservedly so. Never met him, but got to see the Raiders in a pre-season game in Phoenix, Arizona against the then St. Louis Cardinals. One correction to be made; The Raiders beat the Minnesota Vikings 32-14 on that day in the Rose Bowl. Forever a Raiders fan!
the Snake was clutch. Fred Biletnikoff and Cliff Branch [ should be in the Hall of Fame],were the best. I wish I could go back in time and experience the real Al Davis led Raiders.
Un mariscal carismático, y un equipo que atraía a nuevos aficionados.un mariscal, que debió ganar cinco supertazones y bueno es la magia del mejor deporte espectáculo y los superatletas del planeta.ken stabler, no habrá otro como el.
The score in the Raiders v. Vikings Super Bowl was 32-14 not 24-7. Ken Stabler has been in all the best games in NFL history. He should be in HOF....it's a crime that he isn't. If not for the immaculate reception he would be regarded as one of the best ever. Steelers didn't deserve to win that game. Oh yeah, Snake called his own plays in the huddle too...he's a badass and he signed my helmet keychain when I met him at a banquet.
Ken Stabler was the first active player to at one point be a teammate of Morten Andersen, the NFL record holder for most career games played. Stabler and Andersen were teammates on the Saints from 1982-84. The last active player to have been a teammate of Andersen was Brent Grimes, one of Andersen's Falcons teammates in his last season of play. Grimes retired after the 2018 season.
What a great player, learned under Paul Bear Bryant. Perfectly accurate spiral and throwing motion. That hit by Jack Tatum at 4:30, wow! He would have been penalized, fined, and thrown out of the game today! The holy roller game was BS. But it was fairly early in the season and the Raiders were ultimately the better team.
Nice video and hopefully people can appreciate The Snake and Raiders legendary radio play by play guy Bill King. But there’s a graphic mistake. Final score of SB XI was 32-14, not 24-7. The latter score was the AFC Championship score vs Steelers.
To this day I have never seen anyone get more rotation on a football then the Snake. Any Quarterback just loved to watch him throw the ball. Like Marino's quick release and Montana's decision making, it was a pleasure watching him play. Hall of Fame? They should have chauffered him there-unforgivable.
Snake Was The Coolest Cat Ever! Got To Meet Him And Got His Autograph . Nicest Guy You Will Ever Meet. Raiders Fan Forever!
I love this stuff. He was probably one of the best quarterbacks ever under pressure.
Kenny "The Snake" Stabler truly a great quarterback. He faced some of the toughest defenses ever to play and gave them a run for thier money
Steelers fan here. I think Kenny "Snake" Stabler deserves a call from the Hall!!
that's the beauty of true Raiders and true Steelers fans, despite the intense rivalry in the seventies, true fans of each team can still respect the great players on both sides.
Daniel Rause i hate the steelers. but back in the 70s, jack ham, mel blount, and joe greene were big time players. players u respected as enemies.
Born and raised in Western PA and am a huge Steelers fan. The fact that the snake did not make the HOF is a damn joke. RIP Snake legends never die.
neither is Jack Tatum. or Daryle Lamonica. or the king of kings.. Warren Wells. what is justice? where is justice?

I'm a Broncos fan, and Stabler's posthumous induction is BS. He earned it, and his speech probably would've been awesome.
