I just made this today. It's great that the lemongrass taste is pretty gentle and not too overpowering. And no fish sauce to choke out all the flavour. Thanks!
Thank you for making this Channel. I've always wanted to recreate my mom's dishes, but she never writes anything down on paper and I usually don't have the time to watch what she does and try to translate ingredients into english. This is a life saver.
To cook in a crockpot you follow the steps through the meat browning than transfer to the crockpot. Make sure to deglaze your browning pot. Then continue with the recipe. Just don't fill the crockpot all the way. The meat will release a decent amout of moisture.
I made the Bo Kho... and it turned out very good. THANK YOU !!! Except that I added 2 more ingredients. I added tendon, tripe and cow stomach. It is delicious !!! thank you for sharing how to make it.
I would just like to say you are such an inspiration for me to start trying to cook Authentic Vietnamese dishes, since I am part Vietnamese. Thank you for posting such beautiful edited and done clips... makes everything so easy to understand.
Helen, I love your recipes! I lived in Vietnam 2 years--if being a Marine in Vietnam can be called living! But that experience instilled in me a love for the Vietnamese people and their cooking!
Just want to say thank you from Canada for having such a great channel. Your voice is so calming, and your recipes are so easy to understand. I like that you often say "if you don't have this ingredient, it's okay." Today, I made my Viet husband take me to the lil market near our house, and I bought all of the ingredients for Bo Kho. We bought some beautiful baguettes, and oh my gosh it was so good. I've also made your cha giò with rice paper, and they were soooo good. I've asked my father-in-law (who's on vacation in Vietnam) to bring me back some cha giò re nets that you showed in your video, as I think they may not be available in my town. My husband says they're really really yummy. Please keep up with your lovely videos. I've introduced your videos to Yy mum, who lives in s very small town in eastern Canada, and she wishes she could visit me, to taste all of the Viet food I've learnt from your videos. You've also made my husbands family happy that I'm learning to cook Viet food. Your videos make it so easy.
Bo Kho is one of my favorite Vietnamese dishes! Very good video, great quality and well explained. I've made bo kho 2 times already but im going to make it 1 more time using your recipe! Thank you!!!
Hi Helen, I'm so enjoy cooking with your recipes,"can't go wrong & perfect any times" You've brought joys & happiness to many of Vietnamese overseas families & you have made us proud of Vietnamese food. Thanks Helen Phong Melbourne, Australia.
You're my favorite cook guru on youtube! I've been cooking some of the dishes on your channel n I gotta say..most of them turn out really good! Thanks so much! I'm gonna make this 1 today!
So going to try this! I dont have access to these wonderful Vietnamese dishes so the best thing is to learn to cook it myself. Thank you for keeping it simple & easy to understand!
Cảm ơn Helene thật nhiều nha, mình tìm được cách nấu những món ăn thật quý giá khi xa quê hương. Cách chỉ dẫn của Helene thật là perfect. Chúc bạn luôn thành công trên mọi nẻo đường. Thanks alots.
I’m making this right now it’s my favorite! My father in law normally makes it for me but he’s on a trip to Vietnam right now and I was craving it. Thank you for the recipe!! 😃
Hi Helen, thanks for your Vietnamese Beef Stew's recipe. I made it yesterday. It was yummy. I like your presentation, for it's easy to follow and it looks neat and clean. I will make Bun Bo Hue next week. Love your Bun Bo Hue's recipe too. Thanks a lot.
Made exactly as your instructions, doesn't look as good as yours but taste amazing. Thank you Helen :) All your recipes are looking so good, will learn from your channel from now on Cheers!
what a delicious dish! , sometimes when i go for PHO in winter time , its hard to choose between Pho and stew . thank you for making this video Helen your arel professional!! p.s you can fed ex me any leftovers!! lol
I love Vietnamese food.!!! There is always a great combination of sauces, spices and fresh veggies. This is a great dish when the beef is very tender after I put it in a crock pot. I also add coconut milk for a more richer, tastier and thicker broth but you can't go wrong with this recipe. Thanks for uploading
"...beef goes better with soy sauce..." you remind me very much of my mom, who uses soy sauce instead of fish sauce for every beef dish. When I rent my own place next year I'll definitely give these recipes a shot. Keep up the good work!

This looks awesome. I'll go shopping and buy the ingredients next week. The variations make it very suitable for a single household like mine. That way I'll have a different meal each day. Thanks a lot for his recipe.
I think they use slightly different spices (not sure in details) but I am used to the fragrance of Vietnamese one. Oh, one more difference is that Vietnamese one is normally sold in small packages (5-10g, labelled as Bot Ngu Vi Huong) wheareas Chinese one is normally sold in a small jar.
After watching several recipes, I finally had confidence in trying out yours. My family and my guests really praised your recipe sky high. They said the local beef noodle shop will close if I cooked the way you taught me and I opened a shop selling your version of beef noodles/stew. I liked everything about it but next time, I would not put any sugar, but as a side dish, serve salted preserved veg sliced very thinly with fried shallots. I used bone broth instead of cocnut water (too lazy to drive few miles to buy it) I'll use coconut water the next time. Yes, I was brave enough to invite guests to eat with us because as I looked at you cook, I knew it would turn out well. Thank you, and hope to try out more of your recipes. I rate this recipe 5 Star. Would you like to open a shop here in Malaysia and give the so called beef noodle shop a run for their mone??? LOL

Hi Helen. First I want to let you know that your videos and recipes are the best. Very clear, specific, and flows smoothly (along with your soothing voice). You are the first I have ever subscribed to and replied on TH-cam =) Question: should you add "Bay leaves" to the pot while cooking? I heard it was an essential ingredient?
Hu Tieu Bo Kho from Helen's Recipe, Thank you Helen! It looks and taste delicious! Just one thing: if we like coconut milk, it is OK to do so, but it will neutralize the aroma of the herbs, what it suppose not to be. I like it both, next time without coco milk.
We have something very similar in Taiwan. Its called spicy beef soup :) I'm probably going to butcher the the romanization of the actual name so basically we add lots of tomatoes, beef tendon and brisket, some chili paste, and similar seasonings as stated in this video and simmer it for a long time til the meats falls apart. Then serve with noodles on a cold day!
