  • Deadvlei is a clay pan in Sossusvlei, Namibia. This pan hosts a sparsely populated array of preserved camel thorn trees, blackened by the sun, which are 1000 years old.
Butting up to Deadvlei’s eastern side is the towering Big Daddy dune offering some fleeting early morning shade.
It’s here amongst these old Namib desert sand dunes, illuminated red and orange by a rising sun, that exquisite shapes, shadows, contrasts, and colours defy the photographer to capture its beauty.
I've written a comprehensive article on how to photograph Deadvlei that will help any visitor to get the best photos possible.
