      I wonder if this is the same studio who made that other cartoon comedy The Dating Guy? They look very similar and even the Mall Cop in 6Teen and the cop in The Dating Guy sound like the same voice actor. 16:27 And they even made a "Zombie Episode" where zombies take over the mall. Not sure if that was banned in The States also I am serious they did make an episode where people turned into zombies. LOL

    I feel like Nicki was more grunge/alternative than goth. The goths in the show were more to the archetype. Also I grew up with this as a Canadian so got all the episodes and I knew this was the last one the first time I saw it. I think they advertised it that way on Teletoon. Out of all the shows my brother and I watched as kids, this is probably the one we watched the most together on purpose.

    6Teen was definitely one of the best shows that aired on CN back in the day. While Total Drama fell out of favor fast with how bad it gotten, 6Teen stayed consistent and pretty on track for what it wanted to be. It had a lot of fun moments and really made it feel like being 16 was going to be an amazing thing. Sadly when I was 16, that wasn't the case, but oh well.
    It really was a comfort show. It also handled relationships and connections and all the teen drama really well. Though I can't forgive them for breaking up Jude and Starr thou. I know what they were going for with Starr, but man, her last appearance really made me upset.

I saw teens come into Forever 21 all the time and while a lot of the other stores are more expensive/upscale, they still have stores targeted to younger people like BoxLunch and places that are just full of anime gatcha machines. I discovered this show when I was in my early to mid 20s after I made a comic years prior that was kind of similar to it in theme. I'm Canadian and now live in Toronto. I've actually met a few of the voice actors you've mentioned and some of the creators of the show at comic conventions. I also heard the mall was inspired by the Eaton's centre in Toronto. It has a large fountain similar to the one in the show. Also, apparently, there were a few writers that would watch teens and youths in that mall to study them for show plots. I read that somewhere but have never asked how true those last facts are. Great video! I rarely see anyone talking about this series and it was a fun show, even though I was hoping for a more satisfying ending, but you can't please everyone. 🤷‍♀️

    6teen was my comfort show. too. I am Canadian by birth and still living in Canada and probably always will unless I choose to move to Iceland or Ireland but I will live in this country. in 2004, as a little kid, when this came out, I enjoyed it alot. I enjoyed watching it on Teletoon which it aired on in my province of Ontario like Total Drama Islands and Stoked. Teletoon and YTV were the main two channels that were the best in the 90's and early 2000's. It started to get alternated in the 2010 zone and by 2019 it completely changed out in cartoon style from the shows I loved to things that made no sense as to why kids would like it. And as a 90's kid, that means it was too clean and too dumbed down for taste. But 6teen was my thing. I was a kid and when I got into my teens around 2009, I still loved 6teen as it helped shaped me into the teenager I was, even though I was in my alternative eco goth "phase". Which I never believe was a phase because, while 29 turning 30 this year, I am still goth and always will be. I was sad when it ended with the season final in 2010 but was happy that till 2018 that it kept airing reruns and such until it finally stopped airing all together. I saw 8teen on youtube and gotta say, it felt...forced and it felt like a parody but I still enjoyed seeing the characters and VAs back.

    • @Colby2D
      @Colby2D  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your comment, that’s all really interesting to hear. A lot of the teletoon shows from the 2000s were really interesting, there was a lot of overlap with Cartoon Network, but the shows that didn’t air in the US all seemed really unique and interesting and fortunately nowadays Im able to check them out more online. And yeah the vote dude special did seem pretty forced, I feel like a slightly more mature reboot could work, if it landed somewhere between the original show and the voting special, or just more like the original would be fine with me too, it never really felt like it dumbed itself down, and that was a core aspect of the shows creation, competing with shows like family guy that kids watched because it didn’t dumb itself down for them

      @@Colby2D it kinda feels odd to me how some shows we have in Canada doesn't air or get banned and therefore doesn't get aired in America due to being "risky" as you mentioned. which i find odd because you would think America would be no stranger to dark or inappropriate humor for some cartoons. even mild ones. like the stuff here in Canada to me is pretty tamed. But I guess that is just my 90's sense of mind as I was raised around that stuff, no censoring of humor or risky stuff as they would call it. Heck, my generation had Teletubbies for crying out loud and that stuff is nightmare fuel yet kids back then, besides me, loved that show. And don't get me started on what commercials were like back then, they are a whole another category of weirdness.

    Not a bad break down of the show; you defiantly seem closer to in age to the target demographic than I was when it first started airing. Personally I liken 6Teen to being a more kid friendly version of Friends. The parallels between the two shows are pretty obvious in the clips and episodes referenced, but there's still enough originality to make its own. This also coexists with the teenage mall culture (which yes has always been a thing) with a lot of shows during that early 2000s was focusing on at the time in shows, and even call backs in more adult shows out at the time, ie: HIMYM episode Slap Bet (released in 2006) which introduced audiences to Robin Sparkles and her song Lets Go To The Mall.

      Thank you I appreciate it, yeah it’s definitely pretty similar to friends, but there’s just something about the humor I gel with a lot more here, maybe it’s because they’re a lot more friendly in 6teen I feel, but mall culture of the mid 2000s was very interesting

    I'd put Nikki in C tier. Throughout the show, she is seen hitting people (mostly Jonesy). She hits Jonesy in almost every episode and calls him & others stupid and talks down on men, suffering no consequences. If Jonesy was seen hitting her, everyone would FREAK OUT, but since the roles are reversed, no one seems to mind.
    Very strange and bad programming for young girls; making them think this is ok behavior.
    But she does have some funny moments.
