    Great video, thanks for posting it. I just got into virtual pinball a couple of weeks ago and I found that it's very easy to way down the proverbial rabbit hole lol. I already have about 300 tables now and counting.

      Nice! Don't forget to play a table every now and then!

    thanks for this commentary. i think videos that give a summary, whether condensed or trying to be exhaustive, about the 'current status of virtual pinball: apps, available tables, hardware, what kinds of virtual pinball experiences can you set up' is good and useful for anyone starting out on their adventure or if theyve been away from the scene and are wondering "ok whats the go-to paths for virutal pinball. This video may not be concise and to the point for some (and usually me as impatience is our curse), but i found it to be nice for something to play while i'm doing other stuff and listen in on you going through the various topics. and i agree with your comments about the artwork sexualization, of women in particular. Everybody understands that its there, and i agree those tables prolly can just be jettisoned (or likened to your approach, switch the art out tho if its an original table that'll make it feel less real.. i'd prolly just remove it). with the gobs of tables available, not really gonna miss a few here or there.

      Thanks, les! You're getting out of it what I want you to get. This video wasn't meant to excite as much as inform, albeit at a leisurely pace. (When I can't sleep, putting on this video actually helps me drift off!) Regarding exploitation of women, I have gotten rid of the worst offenders. Pinball companies used skin to attract male players and their money, so it's part of pinball's history and belongs on my machine to an extent. But I don't miss the Apache backglass, and anything over the line can stay off my machine (or at least live in the hidden tables area).

    Why is it on its side in where it's difficult to see?

    • @licoricewhip
      @licoricewhip  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So that it's larger. It's always hard to show pinball on TH-cam. Perhaps you can turn your screen.

    I loved that you had the Williams (1971) Solids and Stripes. I had that cab in my bed room as a kid. I LOVE pinball and am very new to this whole cyber pinball world. I'll have a top flight woodshop and doing the cabinet will be a breeze. The daunting task of making all these different softwares work is where I'm at. You video helped quite a bit. I agree with you about some of the machines of yester year had art work that appealed to horny little boys. Sex sells I guess, even in Pinball.

      Especially in pinball! Glad my video helped. Let me know when you've got the cabinet built!

    Could you do another video with your tables vertical and not sideways? Perhaps when you get some more tables? Please also make sure the lighting is good like the 32 minute video you did of the collection of your tables. Thanks.

    • @licoricewhip
      @licoricewhip  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually think the lighting is better on this one, Mark. I went horizontal for better viewer clarity as well.

    • @markjones5903
      @markjones5903 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@licoricewhip The lighting is good for this video. On one of the previous videos you did the lighting wasn't as good. I still prefer the tables be shown vertically because that's how you play them. I'd also list the tables from A to Z as it makes it a little easier to find a particular table. Maybe in the future when you get even more tables you could do another one like this. Thanks for the work you've done!

    Great video! I want to build my own virtual pinball table but am just in the planning stages. Quick question, I have no idea how big the various files are that make up each table - how big a hard drive do you need if you want to have 1000+ tables? Would spending a little more for an SSD drive help loading times?

    • @licoricewhip
      @licoricewhip  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I've only got a 500GB SSD in there, and it's barely half-full. However, I've noticed that new re-creations of tables are bigger in size. JPSalas is renowned for files that are under 25MB, while others use up to ten times that much. Backglasses tend to be in the 10-50MB range; ROMs are very small, and the front ends aren't that big. If you plan on 1000+ tables with lots of larger-sized PuP-packs, you might want more than 500GB. And no, I don't think the size of the hard drive has any significant impact on the loading times. Good luck!

    What are your Top 5 favourite tables?

    • @licoricewhip
      @licoricewhip  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's tough for me. I can tell you what I've been playing more of these days... Space Cadet, El Dorado (the original, not City of Gold), Safecracker, Eight Ball, and either Twilight Zone B&W Mod or Cactus Canyon. Do you have a Top 5?

    I'm on the hunt for the vpx table Verne's World. I can't find it anywhere for download. I figure since you have the table you can tell me who the author is so I can try to contact him for the table directly or do you know any Facebook group who can help me out.

    • @licoricewhip

      My version was made by freneticamnesic, likely downloaded from vpinball.com before its demise last year. I've never received any tables from Facebook groups, so I can't say if they're of any help to you. Good luck!

    Excellent collection😁 I have had a lot of these since the nineties, and sadly have not kept up with it. Do you think it would be better to start fresh and pull down all new tables and which way to go VPX or Future pinball? Thanks👏

    • @licoricewhip
      @licoricewhip  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You played virtual pinball in the '90s? Wow. Yes, start fresh with VPX by following what vpforums.org has to offer. For front ends, people like the "baller installer" for PinUp Popper, though I prefer the simplicity and elegance of PinballY. There are plenty of other TH-cam videos to help you get there. Regarding hardware, you need a decent graphics card to run most tables at a good frame rate (60 fps). If your card is lacking, VP9 tables might be a better place to start. I discuss what I'm running on my first Virtual Pinball 101 video. Good luck!

      @licoricewhip  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I put a 500GB SSD in there. It's about half-full of VP stuff. Then again, I don't have as many PuP-packs as other VP'ers.

    Hello sir I love the Video I am wanting to build a table is it possible to install this on your everyday Pc and get everything downloaded and tested while I build the Cabinet, I keep trying to find some information on this but seem to be lacking so I keep trying to find some people who would care to discuss the build as I do it. I love all things pinball so I plan to get as many tables as possible because you are right it seems like these corporations are buying everything today and to me yes its not a real table but its the closest I can get without having to speed 15k for say Adam Family which is a great table that I remember playing when I was younger, shot remember my mother dragging me out of are local little arcade which ended up closing way back when but its something that I still enjoy and think I always will.
    Would it be possible maybe to get the Links to the Videos you talked a little about putting it on a Desktop this would be a great help if you could if not thank you for the video ill search for them either way just in case and thank you for the video again.

      Hi, Astro. I suggest you check out vpforums.org and look at the forums. That site, along with vpuniverse.com, has most of the files you’ll ever want, and a lot of beginners start there. If your everyday PC can handle some of the more demanding games, it should be able to handle Virtual Pinball, though you may end up wanting to upgrade to enhance your experience. Good luck!

    BAM the mode that works with xbox kinect doesn't cause a blur. You say that right now it looks good unless you step to the side a foot, are your eyes a foot apart? You are still seeing a flat image but it is just like the table rotates so the 3d is correct not that there is some kind of real 3d effect that only works for one eye. How on earth did you even come up with this terrible line of thinking that led you to this conclusion.
    The real problem with BAM is if you aren't being tracked well and then things can get jittery. You really shouldn't talk about things you clearly have never tried like you actually know what you are talking about.

    • @licoricewhip
      @licoricewhip  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Thom! You misunderstood a couple of things.
      The "move your head to the side about a foot" comment was about playing VPX without any sort of head tracking; not sure why you thought I was talking about BAM at that point.
      Regarding Future Pinball and BAM, I said "from my understanding," which was based on research I had done in the past, where other videos commented on blur. I never said or implied that I had experienced it first-hand, and I don't know why you inferred otherwise.
